not from around here are you?.gingerlooks like it belongs in downtown seattle. the staff is great, this is a great place to come for a higher class evening in anchorage. order a smoked martini if your a scotch person looking for a good martini or vice versa.

disappointing. we chosegingerfor a special occasion, arrived early for a pre-show dinner. allowed two hours to dine. server was friendly & seemed efficient. appetizer was adequate, salad was good. ten minutes after our salads were cleared (40 minutes in) our server came to apologize for the delay in entrees. proceeded to wait 45 more minutes for our food, unable to catch her eye. clearly a mistake made in the kitchen, because i walked by on the way to the restroom and overheard her arguing with the line about where her "medium filet" went (my entree!) finally, 5 minutes before we needed to leave, she brought a clearly kept-warm pork tenderloin to my husband, which was dry and flavorless, and my medium filet was very rare, tough, fatty, overseasoned (pepper to make it look cooked?) and impossible to cut with the butter-knife they provided. server offered to "box up" our meals (seriously, so we could eat three hours later?) so we could make our show, and did comp the entrees, but the occasion was ruined and the food was not that special.

mediocre food at stellar prices. the food, service, portions and overall feel ofgingeris nothing to brag about. if you go in the winter be prepared to wear your jacket for your entire meal as the entire restaurant feels like an arctic entryway. i did give this place a second chance before writing this review but again was not impressed or even satisfied with anything other than the art on walls and the vibrant red paint..which is truly what drew me in to eat in the first place. nothing was too impressive except the mac and cheese with scallops my friend ordered..which in a way seems like a waste of good scallops but at least was a good sized portion and had more flavor than the fish i'd ordered. i wouldn't recommendgingerto anyone i know or ever return.

not a fast food joint..gingeris a classy restaurant that serves food for individaul taste. we have taken our out of state guest and recommend it to our friends. it is higher priced than a diner or fast food place but you pay for the superior obeisance, service and quality of food. i have been many times and intend to go back many more. great job ginger.

come for the food, stay for the drinks. i hadn't been togingerin a couple years and had decided to give them a second chance after too many disappointments in the past. unfortunately, it was more of the same last night.

the night started out alright with a fantastic martini and a ginger-infused mojito, and the crispy pork egg roll appetizers were delicious and served piping hot. i was disappointed, however, that ginger's website menu was out of date as the cohiba-rubbed bistro filet i had been planning to order was not on the menu once we arrived at the restaurant. in it's place was a wagyu strip steak, a very renowned cut of beef and something i normally would've been excited for, but for whatever reason ginger's chef felt it was necessary to coconut-crust and schezuan-spice one of the best cuts of beef in the world (their filet mignon had the same preparation, it boggles the mind). despite the dissertation our server gave us on the origins of the wagyu, i decided on the flat iron steak served with roasted fingerlings, green beans, and a plum butter. my girlfriend order the panang beef curry, and we continued our drinking with a glass of white oak merlot and pint of ninkasi's total domination ipa (fabulous).

our entrees arrived, and with them disappointment. my girlfriend's beef curry was closer to lukewarm than hot, and the curry itself was startlingly bland, and any beef in the dish was few and far between. for an asian fusion restaurant to not be able to pull off a simple curry is depressing. my flat iron steak, ordered medium rare, arrived more on the well side of medium-well, but at least it was hot. the sauce, the type of which i cannot recall, was delicious (as was the plum butter). unfortunately that was the only silver lining to the flat iron. our server, suddenly disinterested in us, failed to reappear until our meal was well and truly finished, and then only to ask what kind of dessert we'd be having tonight. apparently unconcerned with how we enjoyed our meal (if he had bothered to ask, i'd have told him) and only interested in increasing the size of the bill. unsatisfied with the performance of the kitchen thus far, i opted for a glass of laphroaig for dessert, since the bar was only part of the restaurant to not disappoint us that evening.

it saddens me to say that it's more of the same from ginger. the food continues to disappoint, yet the bar remains a star attraction. their cocktails are well-crafted and delicious, and the liquor selection is extensive and well-rounded. avoidgingerif you're looking for a place to have a nice dinner, but i highly recommend it if you're just looking for a cocktail or two, and maybe an appetizer.

skip the mee krob. we have dined atgingerseveral times in the past. recently on a return visit we opted for oyster shooters and carrotgingersoup appetizers; both were fabulous. for our entrees we should have stuck with the always sinfully good scallops 'mac & cheese', but the mee krob delivered to table beside ours looked so good that my husband had to order it. the steaming mound of noodles surrounded by large, plump shrimp, and chunks of pork and chicken was just too tempting. unfortunately my husband's mee krob arrived as a dense, sticky, and much smaller serving of luke warm, overcooked noodles so cloyingly sweet that it should have been listed as a dessert. there were exactly 3 rubbery shrimp that had been overcooked to the size of a nickel, 2 tough bite-size pieces of pork, and not a single morsel of chicken. it reminded us of the 99cent boxed noodles that you add water and microwave for 5 minutes. because the service had taken a little longer than usual (slow even for a show night) and we had tickets to a performance, there was no time to reorder. instead we shared my mac & cheese and the embarrassed waiter, without hesitation, offered to remove the mee krob from our check.

atmosphere awesome, drinks yummy, food average and server not soo good. i love the design of this restaurant! finally a place in ak that is cool and hip! but the food was not very flavorful. i had the lettuce wraps and they were bland and small portion. the pomme frites appetizer dipping sauce was yummy though. i had agingermojito and champagne cocktail, we're both excellent. the server seemed very inexperienced and not very socially normal? i guess he wasn't very charismatic and friendly. if i go back togingerit would be to have good drinks at the bar and to enjoy the nice atmosphere.

urban atmosphere; be careful what you order. after months of hemming and hawing we finally tried outgingerfor dinner. i had tried dessert, which was fantastic, so i wanted to try a few more dishes to really get a feel for the place.

the ambiance of the restaurant is urban chic, which is rare in anchorage. the clientele are typically young and trendy, though there is always the person in xtra tufs thrown in. the waitstaff are semi-formal, and very attentive.

the food was good and presented very well. my duck breast chinois was perfectly seared and delicious. exactly what i wanted from a chinois. however, the shellfish mac and cheese my boyfriend had been looking forward to (for months, actually) was a let down. it tasted good, but adding a dash of truffle oil - which lent no flavor, to put the price over $30 was certainly not worth it. the donut and ice cream desserts were also delicious.

i would go back, definitely. however, i would avoid the mac and cheese.

great ambiance. i only had an app. (lettuce wraps) which were sub-par, but i won't judge the food since i didn't have a real dish. we went there as a group of 8 for a friend's birthday, our waiter was a complete and utter dufus, but again he's just one person and i won't say that service sucks just because we had an inept server. i saw other waiters who seemed great at other nearby tables. their attached bar is really great for after dinner drinks, but it's small and can get a bit crowded. i agree with previous reviewers, when you step intogingeryou don't feel like you're in anchorage, it feels like you're somewhere a lot more cosmopolitan. great sexy vibe.

step off 5th avenue into a different city. oh ginger- how i love thee.... when i'm getting the anchorage blues all i have to do is sit at your bar and be transported to a more urban destination. only the fresh alaskan oysters served bloody mary style (be still my heart!) or bering sea scallops parading across a bed of just the perfect amount of cheesy mac and cheese remind me of where i really am. wine by the glass selections can be a tad over priced, and the appetizers might be a bite or two smaller than you'll find in other anchorage restaurants, but the extra fifty cents is well spent when i'm blissfully perched at their modern yet warmly tended to bar. i love thatgingercan be a multi occasion go to place. i can stop in for a quick bite after work (they're open late!), be totally at ease sitting by myself at the bar trying to absorb the bartender's mixology secrets, get a table in the dining room with my family, have a sexy date night in the intimate bar booths, dressed down, dressed up,gingeris the place for me to go.

disappointing.gingerwas very disappointing. i enjoy trying new dishes but nothing on the menu really amazed me. my plate seemed like classic americana and was really salty. i might be back if a group of friends suggest it, but i won't suggest it myself.
