met my good friends for an early dinner at this outlet. though it was load shedding thankfully the restaurant had a generator so it was business as usual.

our waiter was knowledgeable and prompt in his service. we placed a couple of starters to share. we had chicken samosas and onion bhadjias. they were both really tasty and especially the bhadjias which were delicately seasoned and not oily tasting at all.

our mains soon after the starters were cleared. i had the chicken briyani and my friends had the chicken tikka masala and chicken jal frezi. my briyani was really tasty and of a substantial portion. i tried the jal frezi which was spicy but yet sweet simultaneously.

the atmosphere of the restaurant was intimate and it was just about fully booked when we left.

it was a very pleasant evening with good food and lovely company.

i heard this place was good and i wasn't let down. beautiful rich curries and brilliant service. a little dark at times - a few candles or extra lighting would go a miss. food is impeccable though. try the lamb korma and garlic naan! it's amaze!!

my favourite place for indian cuisine in joburg, and possibly south africa. their butter chicken is probably one of the best you will ever have. not a huge fan of their samoosas - they do them in the traditional northern indian 'parcel' style with thick pastry and a very dry filling.

ambience is laid back and moody - quite a good place to go on a date.

every curry on the menu is around r98 but they come served with rice and can easily serve 2 people. the chicken tikka is well priced as well, at r52 for half a chicken and chips. i do suggest that you buy some butter naan to go with any of your dishes. it is a great addition and ghazal makes it very well.

you can also choose how spicy or sweet every dish you order should be. the boyfriend likes to order things hot, i prefer medium. we ordered a chicken makhne once medium and once hot. i really prefer it medium. the makhne is sweet and fragrant with the most tender chicken. the chicken tikka was also soft and tender, but quite spicy at hot.

the first time we visited was on a weekend evening and the restaurant was incredibly busy. there were no free tables and we were glad we had booked. the service was still friendly and efficient. our food got to the table piping hot and fresh. since our last visit, the boyfriend mentions it every single day (and he's a fussy eater!).

definitely recommended!

i had heard that ghazel was one of the best north indian restaurants in johannesburg - and they lived up to it! i popped in for a take away one friday evening, and was totally blown away! i ordered the chicken korma and a garlic naan - a generous portion and absolutely delicious! i will definitely be returning for a sit down dinner.

if you looking for good authentic north indian food with great service and a nice set up, give ghazas a visit.

their curries are the right amount of flavor and spice and the smells will entice you.

my favorite is their chicken korma with fresh warm butter naan or their chicken boti- little nuggets of soft chicken marinated in spice and cooked on open fire.

try their onion badjia (chilli bite) as a starter or their paneer tikka, which is marinated cottage cheese on a skewer, roasted in clay oven.

their tikka prawn curry is an aromatic curry that is rich in flavours and spices.

ghazal is one of your best bets if you're in the need of good indian food. they don't disappoint and you are not going to leave disappointed. but i don't know, i've never warmed to this branch. the food is good but you try to understand why it cost that much. it also gets ridiculously busy and even though it's not loud and claustrophobic, you may feel like you need to go sooner than you should. all that being said, it's a must-try restaurant. who knows, you may feel completely different from me!

ghazal serves the best north indian food i have ever had. the setting is lovely inside and the service was attentive, though there is a snobbish air about the host, regardless of whether you have reserved a table...makes you think twice about going back.

had the butter chicken, my usual favorite. unfortunately it was slightly sweet, which i didn't like. in fairness to ghazal, they do warn you about it on their menu, but if you're going for the butter chicken, go elsewhere.

not sure if they can do it without the sweetness, but it would be great if they could, because apart from that the meal and the ambiance were lovely.

i recently organised a farewell dinner for a friend who loves indian cuisine and the six of us thoroughly enjoyed the evening.

i adore the garlic and butter naan and the lamb korma. quite a few people have told me the chicken korma is the best, but i will not be swayed on this! trust me have the lamb. i can't eat very spicy food and ghazal knows how to make it non-spicy or spicy.

my other friends tried the chicken korma, curries and the breyani and we all enjoyed the food. i reserved a booth table and we had a blast, with a friendly and efficient waitress (she had her hands full we were the loudest table) by the time it came to dessert most of my friends were full (the portion sizes are quite decent).

i didn't need much persuasion to eat some italian kisses and ice cream and the others had coffees.

i think we were there for a good three hours or more. i like that we received good service and no-one acted like we should vacate the table quicker, it was a friday night so the restaurant was busy.

ghazal is a definite crowd pleaser, easy on the wallet with great tasting food. i know i always come back, although depending where i am, i have also eaten at the sunninghill branch (which is equally wonderful).

good atmosphere and service. reasonable pricing. recommended for indian food. unfortunate that the restaurant was out of popadoms and certain dessert options.

the best indian restaurant around! stunning food, wonderful aromas and welcoming staff pull you in. from mild to extra hot, the curries accommodate everyone. we've only ever had great experiences here! the food has you coming back for seconds and thirds!
