it was firaq assamese restaurant visit to try the local dish. ambience gave me a bit of feel of bamboo cots. lighting and space was adequate.
my local friend suggested thalis with ari fish and duck dish. to be frank the fish blown me upside down. really tasty, kind of too large to be a fish dish, but loaded with flavours. duck dish was more of fry with some herbs and vegetables. it complimented the overall food journey.

located at the intersection of gs road and dr rp road, the place is not difficult to find. also, considering how famous the place is. the interior is minimal and very calm. the place serves only native assamese cuisine. but you do find a number of dishes made with pigeon, duck, fish, chicken, mutton. somehow, the flavor of my food wasn't up to the mark, and my point of comparison being the misíng kitchen. the overall service was quick and the staff was very friendly. might give it another try.

if you are looking for traditional assamese cuisine, this is the place you should hop in. excellent food, good ambiance, friendly staffs.but one major problem is that of car parking. you may have to park your car near hengrabari road or in the gmc parking near the bustop. if you want to have a taste of the chicken, duck in a traditional way.you will love here.
what i do is i go for a veg thali that costs around 140 i guess and order a non veg item.this way you can get a taste of the various curries, vegetables items and so on.and plus its unlimited.so like this you can savour the taste of the food to a great extent. try it once

for someone who has stayed away from home food for quite some time, if there is heaven on earth, it is this, it is this, it is this. (amir khusrao style).
the maasor tenga with tomato and thekera tenga mix is to die for. the garoi fish mash is as simple and as healthy and as delicious as it can get.
i would suggest everyone to take joha rice. i do not like the sticky rice that comes with the thaali. prolly it is newly cultivated rice but joha always is close to my heart and stomach, somewhere in the median.

for people who love pigeon, order for the pigeon curry with banana flowers. it is an absolute delight.

the kheer brings a lot of disappointment, but after all those calories, a no sweet kheer is all i probably needed.
the kaahor utensils bring back childhood memories and feel great to eat in. must must visit. i hope they put some nice music though.

a great place to have good home like assamese thali in guwahati. simple but good ambience amd good food. had the chicken thali which has multiple starters and main course of chicken, each with unique flavors & taste. however, slow and unresponsive service is a let down.

service: 3.5/5
food: 4.5/5
ambience: 4/5

in my opinion best place to have assamese thali in guwahati.

it's home away from home♥️
the veg thali instantly takes you to one's home. i meant an assamese home. because that's what is ghar ka khana in a restaurant. simply loveeeeeeee their veg thali for rs. 190. the other fish, pork, chicken thalis are quite overpriced i feel but their taste and ambience makes up to it. do try out the other dishes especially try their chicken with banana flower. its so yumm. typically axomiya♥️♥️ their khorika porks and chicken is to die for. and that duck and pigeon. mamma mia! i am not a fish fan so no idea about their fish items but undoubtedly that will be good too.
service is fast. hospitality is ambient and warm. seat capacity is large so no problem of waiting out.
a must go for typical axomiya ahar.

go there for the quality of the food and taste if you can overlook the price a bit.. the pork was awesome, the complementary soup delicious. just be careful about the quantity of rice you order.. they are quite generous regarding that and you may have a hard time finishing it up.

this place is very good in serving good assamese dishes, coz it got good variety. the taste is homely, ambience is also typically restaurant look and feel (lighting is very low i felt). will recommend to go for thali for the first timer, coz of the variety.

service-👍

for the first time i m feeling short of words. the restaurant itself is a heaven for food lovers. everything is perfect about this restaurant, the food, the ambience, the service. we ordered boiled pork with veggies, pork dry fry, pork with potato, small fish khorika and chicken in bamboo shoot. we were amazed after tasting the boiled pork. nobody could believe that boiled pork can be so awesome. the pieces were of bite size and filled with juices. the meat almost melted in our mouth. the other dishes were also great. and the best part is we did not feel overfull after eating so much. left the place with a feeling of total satisfaction with the hope of visiting it soon.
will rate it as follows -
food 4/5
ambiance 5/5
service 4/5
price 3/5

ps - food are a bit overpriced

if you are looking for authentic assamese platters served in the traditional assamese way and in the traditional assamese utensils (kaahor bason)... then this is just the place you should be in. i've been here thrice, each one being a family dinner. i love their assamese thali. the bhaapot diya maas (steamed fish), pigeon dishes, bamboo shoot pork, are my favourite dishes and a must try ofcourse. another dish that needs special mention is the omitar khaar. i am not a big fan of khaar even though i am pure assamese (and this ofcourse earns me so much insults from my own family -_-). but their omita khaar has me drooling over! i once witnessed the making of the steam fish and how much it watered my mouth!! service is good as well. the only problem is parking. thats the reason i haven't visited this place in recent times due to the ever increasing traffic. but if you can give it a try.. u are in for a mouthfilling traditional assamese feel
