home run!. i recently came to baltimore to visit a friend and see an orioles game. we decided to eat lunch and hang out at frank and nic's until the weather cleared up, before heading over to the stadium which was conveniently located across the street. not expecting to be "wowed" i ordered the b.l.t., which offered an interesting twist on this simple classic. it had fried red tomatoes, bibb lettuce, applewood smoked bacon, fresh mozzarella cheese, avocado (which i edited out), and mayo...and claimed to be "an experience, not a sandwich." let's just say that it definitely was not bragging foolishly or trying to be pompous...this truly was an experience that i believe in my lifetime will never be rivalled. this epitome of sheer perfection arrived in front of me with a hefty offering of crisp bacon, cooked precisely the way i had requested. the fried red tomatoes were quite a vision in all of their succulent, lightly battered loveliness. and if i told you that i still cannot erase them from my mind one week later you might just think that i have a serious addiction to food, in which you would essentially be correct. this "sandwich" is representation that perfection clearly does exist, even if made by imperfect beings. all of the dishes consumed by our table looked absolutely delish, but the nexttimei have the opportunity to stop by frank and nic's i wouldn't think twice about ordering something else. the funny thing is that we ended right back there for dinner after the game. still satisfied from partaking in several hours of "social eating," my husband and i opted for lighter fare and split a side salad and an app. the mixed green salad couldn't be any fresher. the app that we chose were the chicken quesadillas, which consisted of shredded chicken, havarti cheese, poblano peppers, red onion and tomato, served with house made chipotle cream. disappointedly, my husband and i noticed that the chicken had an odd, unpleasant flavor...and after trying to put a finger on it we both concluded that it tasted more like turkey meat! i can't imagine any restaurant substituting a meat without their customer's knowledge, so perhaps it could just be chalked up to poor quality chicken, possibly canned. i actually would not rule out ordering these quesadillas again, but would instead request them vegetarian style. it is nowtimeto wrap up my review of this new baltimore favorite of mine. although mytimespent in possession of that b.l.t. was way too premature, it surely was a "monumental moment in food."

a really good find. my 18-year-old niece and i went here for dinner this past sunday evening before heading to the hippodrome. the service and food were excellent and there was none of the big crazy crowd that you see at alewife, directly across from the theater. this is a wonderful alternative and will now become my go-to place for pre-theater dinners or for when friends come from out of town to attend games at the stadiums. frank & nic's is a short walk to everything! our service was excellent. i had mentioned to our host/wait staff that we were en route to the theater and asked if he could keep ourtimeconstraints in mind, which he absolutely did. the fries are to die for! keep this place in mind nexttimeyou are out and about downtown!
