food makes this a must visit. we've been to frank & nic's twice now before heading to camden yards, and all i have to say is the food is 10x better than you have any reason to expect in a sports bar.
two visits, two outstanding dishes. first, i had the blt. this is no ordinary blt. the bacon is cooked to perfection - - done exactly right, chewy, but not fatty, just yum! and the sandwich is topped with a deep fried tomato - - adding a satisfying crispness to the whole sandwich. the whole sandwich just tastes completely fresh.
the next time, i braved what i thought would be a hard dish to do well (in a sports bar). thai mussels - - for a mere $8 (thursday special). omg! the mussels themselves were just the best i think i have ever had - - including at restaurants where they cost three times as much. each one was sweet, plump and appetizing. not chewy. not stringy. not fishy. just perfection. the broth was a very solid rendition that i happily sopped up with the accompanying bread . . .i'd have liked a little more heat and thai spicyness - - but this americanized interpretation was just so so good. i would make a trip downtown for these alone. by why when there's a great baseball stadium two steps away?
if you are going to camden yards and eating $6 french fries there (not to mention the outrageously priced beer and burgers) - - you are missing a great opportunity. check out frank & nic's first and then hustle over to the game.
the atmosphere is sports bar, theservicea step above amateur - - but the food and the value cannot be beat.
