flying otter grill

great for afternoon and evening drinks. the otter is a great place for drinks!
quick and friendly service, bar tenders and servers are chatty and attentive.
have awesome lunch specials, maybe could have a better draught beer selection but this is very minor as they have a great bottled selection!
food is always tasty and good portion size!

quality lacking. you can tell several food items are either left to sit for long periods of time or that they are reheated. bacon and fries are cold and tough. service is mediocre. cost is low at least.

understated. i thoroughly enjoy the flying otter grill, especially at lunchtime or sunset. the combination of the views, a varied menu, pleasant staff, and decent prices make this a venue worth seeking out. the ingredients are always fresh and crisp.

the west coast salmon wrap is a favourite.

last day of groupon. i went last year too and thought the service was slow and it wasn't much better today. it was packed but we got the last table. i ordered two piece cod and was surprised how fast the food came. the bus boy was very friendly and a hard worker. our waitress was nice, but didn't check back on us after the food was served. they should hire another person, it was too chaotic for two waitresses. i enjoyed my meal. the fish was done perfectly, it was moist on the inside and crispy on the outside. the prices are a little expensive but i would go back.

am i invisible?. yeah, i know you are busy, it's the last day of groupon, it's a nice day, blah blahblahblah..... i do not care. all you have to do is acknowlege me and say the simple words, "hi there, someone will be right with you." i think ignoring customers is a victoria problem.

as for a review, it would take too long and i have already wasted enough time today. if this place is in any way related to the plane company next door don't fly with them. the restaurant is a plane wreck.

what most people have said in previous reviews is correct. okay place, decent food, nice location on a sunny day, wait staff not very skilled, or on the ball.

they need a front of house person running the show, the bartender was trying to do that, but then people were missing drinks. or was the host trying to be the bartender?

flying otter grill, clean up your act, clean up your restaurant, train your staff, and you could be really something, but today you look like a wharf street tourist trap.

local beers on tap would be nice. (match 2014---was in for a drink while waiting for the plane and they had hoyne beers on tap. thanks)

love it everytime. last night 3 of us went for the steak with prawns, loaded baked potatoe and salad special for only $10.95. i left feeling extremely satisfied with the quality of the food. we also had the calamari as an appy, which was some of the best i've had in town. every time i go to the flying otter, i leave feeling very satisfied with the food and the view of the harbour. however, the service could be a little better. the waitresses are alright, but not super on top of things.

desert was a highlight. i had the lime tartlet. divine. matt had the tempura bananas and, although it looked like a turd, it tasted fantastic and was a huge portion.

was cajoled into buying a drink (soda) while i waited for my lunch date. got stood up and to add insult to injury, $3.30 bill for my unrefilled soda. yes, i ordered it - but i am in the business and if it was me, i would voided it: $3.30 for the potential goodwill is a heck of a bargain. "oh, but i already rung it in..." is a cop out: that's why squirrel created void buttons. i'm never going back - and i told everyone i know. enjoy your $3.30.

we came here because we had a groupon. we ordered the crab cakes to start. they were good, but not $13 worth. my husband had a fully loaded burger which he enjoyed and i had the poutine which was good. service was slow despite only 5 tables being occupied, and 3 servers working. overall an okay place for a burger.

great view, mediocre food, lousy service. we've walked by the place 100s of times, and finally decided to go for lunch today. it was a sunny date, but the enclosed patio overlooking the water was full, so we sat inside under the head-pounding music. after a few minutes, a patio table became available and we asked the server to seat us there - same music, lower volume, better view.

i ordered a salmon wrap with salad and my wife ordered a burger with half salad / half fries. the wrap and the burger were $13, but each topping on the burger added $1.50 and ordering salad / fries was another $1.50. i guess i'm cheap, but to my mind a $18 burger had better be damn good.

unfortunately, it wasn't. both the salmon for the wrap and the burger patty seemed to be from a package. although the salmon was ok, it was overpowered by the chipotle spice on the mayo and the portion of fish was small. even the fries with my wife's burger were spiced, and she doesn't like spicy.

it must be a great place for a drink, as most people were having a wine / beer or three, and the drink prices seemed reasonable. i had to go back to work, so i had coffee - almost undrinkable.

service: we were studiously ignored. waited a long time for our order to be taken, for our coffee to be refilled (not that i wanted it much), and for our bill to be presented.

i really, really wanted to like the place. there's not a lot of good waterfront restaurants in victoria - sadly, this isn't one

very warm, inviting atmosphere. friendly staff. very quick service. ahi tuna salad was delicious. fresh vegetables and tasty dressing. two thumbs up :)

not bad but not great. good location, good service and good prices.
the food however is just so so.
frozen store bought patties in the burgers,
way too much mayo/sauce in the coleslaw that
was in the fish wrap.
it all tasted ok, but just super greasy.
i would bring out of towners here for a lunch maybe just so we could sit by the water but otherwise i wouldn't go back.

wow, so good! came here because of a groupon and so glad i did. great service, great atmosphere, amazing food, and so reasonably priced! had the muscles with cream sauce and fries for $9.95 on tuesday nights :)

absolute let down. absolutely fantastic location right on the water and you can pay park just steps away. turbine single and twin otters pulling in and out just 50 feet away. we were there on a thursday evening and had great service and really good cold beers. good food.

as a regular who has tasted almost the entire menu i think the burger is terrible.
i have talked/coached/cajoled/complained to the manager and other staff about this but to no avail.
this in a town that has seen a number of burger centered diners open recently and seemingly flourish based almost solely on burger patty quality.
what an oversight.

update: i've really dropped back on my visits here, after living in victoria for more than a year now i've got a better idea of where the really good food is and unfortunately it's not here.

ie., a couple days ago me and fren went and ordered the halibut/spinach salad special, ($16 each), it was a small well cooked peice of halibut all right, on top of spinach leaves,...a nondesript sweet dressing drizzled on top,... but nothing else,...no onion, no egg, no cheese, no walnuts.

brutal. we eventually ordered a side of bread just to add something to the "dining"experience.
in short order our bread came, two thick pieces of unbuttered breakfast toast,...?!

my friends first visit,...oh man, she was not impressed.

i love this place,...for the location, good cold local beers and especially for the great wait staff,...but man, the food,...please, so inconsistent, so uneven.
