flying fish public market & grill

was highly recommended. did not quite live up to expectations. 4 members in our party. we had surf and turf, crab legs, sauteed red snapper and grilled scallops. lets start with the positive. crab legs as my daughter says were delicious lol. grilled scallops were prepared well and not over cooked . decently seasoned with cajun spices and drawn butter. red snapper did not meet my wife's expectations. slightly over cooked which caused it to be dry. she thought the seasoning was a bit blan as well. the surf and turf did not meet expectations at. disappointed. 6 oz. filet was well prepared but bland. the lobster pieces were a bit over cooked and the fresh seasonal vegetables did not in my opinion seem to be fresh. the same would be said about the corn that other members of the family had.servicewas good. it was busy and we were seated timely. im 60 /40 on recommending

ok, but not worth the $$$. my family and i have gone here twice. the food is good, but very expensive. i am not a fan of seafood, but i take one for the team since everyone else does. they have zero options for people like me. you have the choice between a $10+ chicken sandwich or a $20 steak. they don't even have a grilled chicken breast. like i said the food is ok, but not worth the money and theservicewas terrible both times we went. the servers were nice enough, but they were not attentive and acted like we were the first table they had ever waited on.

second time around and it was as good this time as it was the first time.servicewas excellent - thank you amber. food was delicious - crab cakes, wedge salad, caesar salad, grilled shrimp, mascarpone cake, chocolate mousse cake and coffee. everything was excellent.

this is a great place to eat. they do not take reservation, waited 90 min for a table. food andservicewas amazing would go back for sure..

we came on a tuesday night and had to wait 45 minutes which is always a good sign. the food andservicewere very good. the portions were large.

heavenly experience

the entire experience here was wonderful for us.  diners are brought a complimentary smoked mahi mahi dip with crackers.  that dip is absolutely magical.  we got the fried oyster appetizer and my wife said it was the best oysters she's ever had.  they were definitely in my top three, if not the best.  i've always used sri racha sauce for my oysters, but the goat cheese to me was a brilliant touch.  the mahi mahi was incredible with the asian sesame sauce.  the swordfish was perfectly delectable with the habanero orange chutney, but after trying the asian sesame sauce, i wished i had chosen that for my dish.  the vegetables tasted garden fresh and were perfectly steamed.  the shrimp and grits are one of the best you will find--just absolutely perfectly comforting, with split grape tomatoes, chives, & country ham.

theservicewas perfect and friendly with a beautiful smile.  this has become our family's new favorite and must-go-to place during every visit to the beach, ever since they first opened.

edit:  we went back august 2018, and my positive impression was greatly reinforced.  this is a wonderful, hip, and classy place.  they have top notch service, great drinks, and excellent meals.  and they still bring that absolutely wonderful complimentary dip to your table.  the chipotle lime sauce is not run-of-the-mill; it is alarmingly good on the halibut.

my husband and i arrived at 7:00 on 4th of july weekend and we had a 15 minute wait. theservicewas outstanding and the atmosphere was fun. they give a complementary mahi dip and it was very tasty. we had fried clam strips and raw oysters, which both were excellent. my husband had the shrimp and grits, which were some of the best i've ever had. i had the grilled tailfish with mango salsa. i've never had tailfish, but it was really flavorful and made to perfection. the food was fresh and it came out fast, despite how huge this place is. we were done in 45 minutes. i would highly recommend it!

rick from tennessee. i had the flounder, fries, and slaw. ordered the hush puppy basket for starter. hush puppies were hard as a rock and very dense. the cinnamon butter that came with them made them a little better. the flounder had very little taste and sides were not any better. very disappointed after reading the reviews on here i was expecting better.servicewas very good and waitress offered to bring me something else and apologized. just seemed like very poor preparation of food. i guess the best part is at least i tried it and will know not to go back.

food was decent, portions were small,servicewas awful. took almost 10 minutes to be acknowledged, apps came before beer did, and food was just warm when it arrived. will not go again.

do not miss this restaurant!. this place is a must visit if you like fresh seafood, beautiful sunsets, greatserviceand value. we spent new years week in the north myrtle beach area and stumbled on to this restaurant the second day of our visit. we came back three more times. whether it was a late lunch or happy hour - the food and drinks were always excellent. the seafood nachos and fish sandwich were the best that we have ever had. we also enjoyed their ns home grown ales. we did not realize that this restaurant is part of a group that also manages capriz, rioz, and liberty steak and ale house. we have had excellent meals at each of these establishments. keep up the great work homegrown hospitality group and thank you maurice for your exceptional service!

great view, great food, great service. we went here on our first night of vacation and had a great experience. the view was great (plus the deck was awesome for our child), theservicewas great, as was the food.

my husband made the comment that the shrimp and grits here were the best he had ever had. my mahi mahi was delicious, as was the fresh sushi roll we chose (flying fish roll).

amazing sums it up! greatserviceand great food. had the mahi mahi and it was perfect! highly recommend the place no matter the waiting time!
