i met some friends atflipdaddy'son wooster pike in mariemont. their website boasts "proprietary beef blend and 24 beers on tap" and i had heard some positive feedback here and there so i was excited to try it out for myself. i started with the kentucky bourbon barrel ale; delicious, although with such a strong flavor i don't think i would enjoy more than one of these. for dinner i had the spring fling, a burger topped with guacamole, cucumbers and pepper jack cheese. it was a delightful combination of toppings (although i was expecting more of them), there is something so refreshing about the flavor of cucumber on sandwiches. because i had heard good things about the asparagus i substituted my fries. it was good, but no better than the asparagus i make at a home. and for a $2 up charge, i'd say go with the fries. one of my friends got the mac daddy, a burger topped with a fried macaroni and cheese patty. this isn't a menu selection i would make but he gave it good reviews. i would ima

i had been avoidingflipdaddy'sfor a long time due to the high price of a burger there plus the very polarized set of comments i had received about the place.  everyone i spoke to seemed to either hate it or love it.  that said, i went toflipdaddy'sduring cincinnati burger week 2015 because, well, burger for 5 bucks.   i could check it out for myself for a few bucks less than usual, and if i was one of the haters, i was only out 5 bucks.

first impression on entry is that this place is very much a sports bar that happens to serve food rather than the other way around.  very loud even on a weekday night without a major sporting event underway.  not a place i would recommend for families with young kids.

second impression was after i reviewed my options for burger week was that i was not going to get off as cheaply as i had hoped.    on any burger i order, i want 2 slices of cheese and grilled onions.  at a lot of places, you get 2 slices of cheese on a cheeseburger, and grilled onions are free.  not so atflipdaddy's- each slice of cheese is a dollar and grilled onions are also a dollar.  in fact, it was obvious that the menu was designed to rake in a lot of money on extras one could add to one's burger.  the end result was that my hoped-for 5 dollar basic cheeseburger was an 8 dollar basic cheeseburger.  the lone consolation here is that the burger includes a choice of side, and given the choice of fries or saratoga chips i went with the chips.  it is noteworthy that in the spirit of add-on charges, you have option to improve your side, things like salad, onion rings, etc - all at additional cost.

i ordered my burger medium rare, and although it took a lot longer than i had expected for a less than half full dining space, i have to give them credit where credit is due - it came out a perfect medium rare.  in my experience, a lot of burger joints will say they'll cook a burger to order, but you end up with well or medium well regardless.  not so here.  so far so good.

anyone who expects a giant pub style burger may be disappointed with the burger here, but to me, this was just the right size.  i didn't ask, but i'd guess this was a 6 to 7 ounce burger.  it had a bit of char on the outside and was very juicy inside, so much so that i had to lean forward over the plate.  it did lack seasoning, so i had to add a bit of salt and pepper.   the cheese and grilled onions were decently good, but for 3 dollars extra, i expected better

the saratoga chips were served with a tiny metal ramekin of bbq sauce.  with saratoga chips, i expect a mix of chewy and crunchy, but these were all crunch.  the bbq sauce seemed institutional, but worked well with these chips.

service was ok, very informal.  there is ample parking in the shared strip-center lot this eatery is located in

all in all, this was a very good burger that i'd probably order again again if it didn't cost 11.99, which was the regular menu price for the burger as i configured it.

nope, not a good night!. gotta say, we visit mariemont restaurant on a regular basis. tonight was bad, really bad. both my daughter and i ordered sandwiches and salads as our side. when the food runner brought our sandwiches, there was no salad in sight. when our server got to checking on us, we were done with our sandwiches, and i pointed out that we were missing 1/2 of our meal. she offered to bring the salad, but i refused..i eat salads before my meal, not after. so she told me she would box up my salad - not acceptable, salads are nasty the next day. an assistant manager (?) comes out to tell me that i'm not being charged for the salad--wow, that's nice, because i wouldn't have paid it if i was charged for non-existent food. i left hungry and pissed off at myself for not ordering the fries. at least i would have felt like i had a full meal. i am not one who looks for free food, but for christ's sake, to pay 8.99 and 9.99 for two sandwiches with no sides is a crock of crap and not the best value for my money.
we visit once or twice a month since you've opened, and i am questioning whether or not i will return.

---
1/8 - i would like to add to my review. in addition to this review, i also copied/pasted my review and submitted it toflipdaddy'swebsite. i was contacted by email and received a very sincere apology along with the offer to give them another chance. this apology and gesture shows me that they do care about their guests, and i will give them a second chance.

creative burgers and craft beer.flipdaddy'sis a creative burger bar with a nice selection of craft beers on their 20+ taps, some of which rotate to keep the selection changing and fresh. they were just finishing up the dogfish head aprihop and tapped sweaty betty in time to taste with dinner. in addition, they offer a tasting flight of four 5 oz. glasses that are served on a plastic strip that's had the name of each beer written on it so you don't have to remember which is which while you sample. they also keep the weihenstephaner hefeweissbier on tap and serve it in its named glass, which is a standard i like to see from a craft beer bar because not everyone's a hop head and sometimes what i really want is an exceptional classic.

in addition to the burgers on the menu, they also have at least one special. last nite, it was the "hey battah battah", which came with beer cheese, onion straws, applewood bacon, and red peppers on a pretzel bun. it was delicious. the burgers are a mix of ground cuts they make up themselves, and are really pretty good, but it's the various creative trimmings that define this establishment's niche.

there's plenty of seating, with patio dining when the weather permits. we ate at the bar, and there's lots of flat screens that are easy to see.

the service staff has been very friendly and accommodating both times i've been here, and last nite, the bartender was that perfect mix of knowledge about the taps, generous with the tastes, and engaging without including himself as a member of our party. he's a real asset to the operation and if the owner is smart, he'll make sure he stays.

overall, if want a creative, tasty burger and want to be sure you'll have a good selection of craft options to drink with it, you should giveflipdaddy'sa try.

awesome patio. seriously impressed with newly built beer garden at flipdaddy's. sitting under the awning while drinking a few of their beers (really, really great beer selection - on draft!) was the perfect way to spend an evening. super friendly - the owner even popped by our table just to say hello. a great local place!

awesome patio. seriously impressed with the beer garden thatflipdaddy'sjust built. the decor inside and outside of the restaurant is really neat. with the weather changing to actually mild temperatures, drinking a few of their 24 beers on draft while sitting on the patio is something i really look forward to.

a good burger and a good beer...... well, another stop on the "10 best burgers in cincinnati" 2010 tour with my daughter. this time it was a late sunday afternoon lunch, with the restaurant being relatively uncrowded on this particular day. there were perhaps a total of two people at the bar, with four tables occupied throughout the remaining divided dining area. we seated ourselves at a table by one of the large picture windows on the bar side, and grabbed a couple of menus. as we looked over the menu, we both commented that the interior seemed very open and airy. earth tones dominate the room, and there is what i would describe as very comfortable lighting. there is nice stone work surrounding the back bar. the place has a very classy, casual feel to it. my daughter remarked that this would be an awesome design for either a family room or basement hangout. i thought it would make an awesome bedroom scheme.

we were greeted promptly by our server, and immediately went about ordering our drinks. my daughter asked for a coke, while i started perusing the beer menu. i asked the server about other dark beers that they had, and was a little surprised that she was relatively unfamiliar with porters and stouts, and dark beers in general. i settled on a "21st amendment back in black", a very hoppy black ipa. while our drinks were coming, we discussed the burger options, as they are many and they are varied. my daughter settled on a medium rare "asian fusion burger" with pineapple, red and yellow peppers, all in a teriyaki sauce. she chose the sweet potato fries as her side. i had the chili and jalapeno covered "chuck norris burger", with onion rings as my side. as we waited, we noticed that while the nfl game on the tv's around the room was not the bengals (blackout?), the room was filled with a radio broadcast of the hometown team. i found that to be a nice touch for the local patrons. i don't know if they have an nfl package here, as many places like this do (think incahoots in blue ash). if not, i might suggest that for next year, as it would have been nice to have a few different games showing on the screens on an nfl sunday afternoon such as this.

the food arrived quickly, as would be expected considering the lack of other patrons. my daughter thought that her burger was very good, cooked perfectly to order, and with nice flavors in the teriyaki toppings. the sweet potato fries were cooked perfectly, and had a taste that reminds you of a thanksgiving sweet potato casserole. dip one in the accompanying warm cinnamon sauce, and you have dessert on a plate. a little sweet for my taste to go with a burger, but my daughter loved them. my burger was cooked a little past medium rare, more in the medium to medium-well range, but it was still very juicy and flavorful. the patty was not overly huge, but it was patted out thick, had a nice texture, and was seasoned well. the chili and jalapeno toppings were good, not too hot, but still having a spicy kick. the onion rings that came with my "cn burger" were fantastic. i found them to be large, hot and very tasty. they were accompanied by a mildly spicy southwestern dipping sauce, which actually might have been a spread intended to go with my burger, but it went very well with the onion rings. the buns on both were soft and fresh.

we both found our meals to be very good, the service good and the atmosphere nice. i would have liked a little more knowledge from our server regarding the available beers in stock, as they advertise themselves to be beer specialists and tout their beer menu (remember it is "flipdaddy's burgers and beer") . i appreciate the fact that she was young and probably not a beer connoisseur, but it is a little uncomfortable when the patron has to correct the server about beer fundamentals in an establishment like this.flipdaddy'sis a nice addition to the area, and a place that i would definitely come back to to try some of the other burgers, and to sample some more of their beers.

friendliest place in mariemont. i am lucky enough to be residing minutes away from two of the best burger places in cincinnati. they both serve very different types of burgers but they are equally delicious.flipdaddy'sis in mariemont and serves burgers with a huge variety of toppings as well as other fresh and equally tasty entrees and appetizers. while the food is impeccable, i have to mention the service as the real charmer of this place. without exceptionflipdaddy'shas the warmest and friendliest wait staff i've seen. they really make you feel welcome and glad you came. if you want to have a meal where the staff really seems to care about their customers, and the food is great too, pay them a visit.

two thumbs up. the atmosphere atflipdaddy'sis very inviting to everyone, whether you want to sit with your family or at the huge bar. the service was great, but the food is what you'll remember. their fries and burgers are amazing. the new bayou burger is definitely my favorite thus far, and the portions are more than enough..can't wait to go back!

great new burger joint!. just had lunch atflipdaddy'sfor the first time. great vibe, especially for mariemont.

i had the black and tan burger with fries, and was very pleased with the meal. the fries alone were awesome, and the burger was big, flavorful, and cooked well. easily comparable with some of my other favorite burgers in cincinnati.

best of all, they had a fantastic beer selection. i will definitely eat here again.

a beer drinker's perfect meal. stopped by monday evening and met the parents. the pretzels with beer cheese was pretty much the perfect starter to go along with a ice cold one. just had the normal cheesburger, ordered medium and came out perfect. no complaints from the parents either. too many fries, but the ones i managed to put down tasted great. if you are a craft beer drinker and can't find something you like onflipdaddy'sbeer menu, you aren't looking hard enough. to top it all off, the service and waitstaff was phe-nomenal. one of the owners stopped by our table and asked if we would like to check out the beer cave. silly question. the food, beer and service, not so silly, but just right.
