flipdaddy's burgers & beers

i met some friends at flipdaddy's on wooster pike in mariemont. their website boasts "proprietary beef blend and 24 beers on tap" and i had heard some positive feedback here and there so i was excited to try it out for myself. i started with the kentucky bourbon barrel ale; delicious, although with such a strong flavor i don't think i would enjoy more than one of these. for dinner i had the spring fling, a burger topped with guacamole,cucumbers and pepper jack cheese. it was a delightful combination of toppings (although i was expecting more of them), there is something so refreshing about the flavor of cucumber on sandwiches. because i had heard good things about the asparagus i substituted my fries. it was good, but no better than the asparagus i make at a home. and for a $2 up charge, i'd say go with the fries. one of my friends got the mac daddy, a burger topped with a fried macaroni andcheesepatty. this isn't a menu selection i would make but he gave it good reviews. i would ima

finally stopped in. no surprises here great beer selection and i had a very good burger. i'm a sucker for a one with swiss, onions and mushrooms and it was as good as advertised. since i haven't been i also ordered their mac andcheeseand i really like how they prepare it. the bartender was great will definitely be back.

i had been avoiding flipdaddy's for a long time due to the high price of a burger there plus the very polarized set of comments i had received about the place.  everyone i spoke to seemed to either hate it or love it.  that said, i went to flipdaddy's during cincinnati burger week 2015 because, well, burger for 5 bucks.   i could check it out for myself for a few bucks less than usual, and if i was one of the haters, i was only out 5 bucks.

first impression on entry is that this place is very much a sports bar that happens to serve food rather than the other way around.  very loud even on a weekday night without a major sporting event underway.  not a place i would recommend for families with young kids.

second impression was after i reviewed my options for burger week was that i was not going to get off as cheaply as i had hoped.    on any burger i order, i want 2 slices ofcheeseand grilled onions.  at a lot of places, you get 2 slices ofcheeseon a cheeseburger, and grilled onions are free.  not so at flipdaddy's - each slice ofcheeseis a dollar and grilled onions are also a dollar.  in fact, it was obvious that the menu was designed to rake in a lot of money on extras one could add to one's burger.  the end result was that my hoped-for 5 dollar basic cheeseburger was an 8 dollar basic cheeseburger.  the lone consolation here is that the burger includes a choice of side, and given the choice of fries or saratoga chips i went with the chips.  it is noteworthy that in the spirit of add-on charges, you have option to improve your side, things like salad, onion rings, etc - all at additional cost.

i ordered my burger medium rare, and although it took a lot longer than i had expected for a less than half full dining space, i have to give them credit where credit is due - it came out a perfect medium rare.  in my experience, a lot of burger joints will say they'll cook a burger to order, but you end up with well or medium well regardless.  not so here.  so far so good.

anyone who expects a giant pub style burger may be disappointed with the burger here, but to me, this was just the right size.  i didn't ask, but i'd guess this was a 6 to 7 ounce burger.  it had a bit of char on the outside and was very juicy inside, so much so that i had to lean forward over the plate.  it did lack seasoning, so i had to add a bit of salt and pepper.   thecheeseand grilled onions were decently good, but for 3 dollars extra, i expected better   

the saratoga chips were served with a tiny metal ramekin of bbq sauce.  with saratoga chips, i expect a mix of chewy and crunchy, but these were all crunch.  the bbq sauce seemed institutional, but worked well with these chips.

service was ok, very informal.  there is ample parking in the shared strip-center lot this eatery is located in

all in all, this was a very good burger that i'd probably order again again if it didn't cost 11.99, which was the regular menu price for the burger as i configured it.

awful and angry-not my first time here.ordered sampler plate and it was missing 2 critical items-beercheeseand pretzles and onion rings. instead we ot stale tortilla chips, the smallest pieces ofcheesequesidillas ive ever seen and 2 cold fried pickles and a piss poor servig of chicken tenders. not what i had in mind for a $12 app. my boyfriend ordered original buffalo chiken wings, which lacked sauce. only thing that turned out semi-ok was the salad, which i built myself-still sub par. overall, my sampler app plate ruined my night.

this has to be the worst place to eat here in symmes twps. they just opened i had never been in one we went in just me and my hubby they sat us at a table fit for 10 people instead of a smaller which they had plenty open. we order the fries withcheesebacon and ranch dressing there wasnt a hand full ofcheeseon them i bet i get morecheeseon a taco bell taco then these fries. ordered athe flipdaddy burger it had no flavor to it what so ever very bland. order a side salad now side salads are suppose to be before your meal it came with the meal it was so nasty i didnt even eat it. my husband burger had no flavor either . he also got the fried mac andcheesewhich had no flavor not sure how you make something with no flavor but the managed to make the whole meal that way and 2.00 is high for a glass of ice tea.also noticed they have no dessert menu guess they havent figured out how to make it bland yet but i will not return and i will tell others not to waste there money 35.00 before tips is alot when all we had was fries 2 burgers a side salad and mac ncheese. red robin now theres a burger with flavor.

wanna like it.... living right up wooster pike from this place we really hoped it would turn into favorite however, our visit was very disappointing. my husband was happy with his mac andcheeseburger on a pretzel bun but that was where the good stopped. the french fries were cold and hard. my chicken breast sandwich had a super thick patty but had no flavor or seasoning at all. very bland. we asked about the beer selection and the server wasn't very knowledgable. being as it is a "beer" and "burger" place they should probably have a better grasp on those things.

worthwhile. had the octoberfest burger, which was very good. awesome beer selection, too bad we had to go back to work, which ruled out a sampling. will be back. grilled mac ncheesewas good, sweet potato fries were better choice for side.

nice!. went on a saturday night...very crowded. i would call ahead for seating. with it being so crowded, i expected slow service. to my surprise, service was very timely. a plus. the burgers we ordered were very nice and cooked to the proper temperature. the jack daniel's burger was very nice. i built a bluecheeseburger with the bacon dijon mayo. very nice as well. next time i will avoid the pretzel bun as it was a bit chewy. the onion rings were a bit heavy on batter so they retaining a lot of oil, yet they were tasty. beer selection was great. i'll return, call ahead and avoid the pretzel bun and rings.

i went here after work last night for dinner. i decided to have the grilled mac andcheeseas an appetizer and it was delicious. i love mac andcheeseand will eat it almost in any form. the extra crisp from the grilled cheesiness was just awesome. i am a

great burgers awesome beers. 2nd trip to the flip and had another fun experience. tried the chuck norris burger with grilled mac andcheeseand it was delish. drank some excellent beer and watched the game. service was good, great place to hangout.

a beer drinker's perfect meal. stopped by monday evening and met the parents. the pretzels with beercheesewas pretty much the perfect starter to go along with a ice cold one. just had the normal cheesburger, ordered medium and came out perfect. no complaints from the parents either. too many fries, but the ones i managed to put down tasted great. if you are a craft beer drinker and can't find something you like on flipdaddy's beer menu, you aren't looking hard enough. to top it all off, the service and waitstaff was phe-nomenal. one of the owners stopped by our table and asked if we would like to check out the beer cave. silly question. the food, beer and service, not so silly, but just right.

great burgers and great service!. i have been twice and loved it both times. i had the black and tan burger and the regularcheeseburger. both were great. the service is attentive and the beer selection is extensive. they do a good job of pairing a beer with a burger. my friend had one of the salads and said that it too was good. check it out!

it's a burger!. i liked the concept and they do have great beers on tap. (i was thrilled to try to the hop juice ipa) ... i had a burger with tapenade, feta and sun dried tomato. although i wasn't crazy about, the burger really was good and i think that if i would have stuck tocheeseand bacon, it would have rocked! the staff is pleasant and they still feel really 'new'... but over time they will get through that. overall, it's a nice addition to the 'hood' and i will definitely be back for the beer.

just what mariemont needs. beer selection was wonderful- lots of different craft beers to try. staff was knowledgeable and friendly, and the burgers were delicious. worth going to try the sweet potato fries (and sauce) and beercheeseappetizers alone!
