holiday inn & suites makati
i was again invited by to dine at flavors restaurant, located at the lobby of holiday inn and suites makati.

flavors restaurant is a buffet concept open for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

flavors has a bread and cold cuts station. they also have a salad station, where you can either fix your own salad or try their specialty salads.

they also have a sushi station, a necessity for me in every buffet.

the choices for sushi is quite limited but i enjoyed it anyway.

there were also different main dishes to choose from.

you wouldn't want to miss out on the steaks.

available cuts that evening were us beef chuck roll, beef sirloin and lamb shoulder. i do love steak so i was
a bit disappointed that my steak was served rare, and not medium rare (as i always request for my steak). however, there were a lot of sauces to choose from. beside the steak station is the grill station, which unfortunately i wasn't able to try.

one station that you shouldn't miss when you visit is the desserts station.

i was simply amazed with all the desserts i had in flavors.

i was impressed with the macadamia cake, la sultan, tiramisu, lemon meringue, chocolate oheyna, white
chocolate blondie, red velvet cups (with generous amounts of cream cheese) and many more.

i also loved the chocolate fondue with a variety of sweets to dip it with, like cookies, fruits, and many others.

there's also an diy ice cream machine where you can make your own parfait or sundae. :)

flavors restaurant by holiday inn and suites makati has very limited selection and could do a lot better with
the food choices. the service could also be improved as well. i was quite impressed with the presentation and taste desserts though.

i do hope to come back to flavors with a better experience and an improved buffet spread.

i tried the lunch buffet. well for the price i guess don't expect a variety of food from different parts of the world. the food were mostly filipino dishes were very good in my opinion. the chicken inasal and chicken relleno were very tasty. what caught my tastebuds attention though was the grilled mahi mahi. it had a hint of smoky taste because of the grill and the hint of sourness because of the vinegar that i used as sauce to enrich the cooked fish. it was very fresh. i suggest that you visit the place for the fod and ambience.

all of the hotels here in metro always have a signature buffet restaurant and flavors is what holiday inn makati has to offer.

the restaurant is named flavors to represent the 5 flavors/stations.

luckily we got to sample this buffet on a friday steak day!

the main dishes were:

u.s. beef chuck roll
beef sirloin - ultimate favorite
lamb shoulder

they have a variety of sauces to choose from, my ultimate go-to sauce would still be the classic pepper sauce. second choice would be the mustard.

other stations are
the salad station - choices were a bit limited
the japanese station - i wish they had sashimi but it's a big plus that they keep the rolls in a temperature controlled plate, same goes for the cold cuts
the viand is assorted on 2 tables - there were a lot to dishes going on, my ultimate favorite was the adobo

out ultimate favorite was the dessert station, they had so many to choose from!

i think from all the buffet restaurants that i've been to they have the ultimate selections on sweets!

my favorite would be the bread pudding and tiramisu!

at 1600++ the price is ok, but be sure to watch out for other ongoing promotions. they currently have a promo of 50% off for bpi credit card holders :)

a lot of room for improvement but i think it was a good buffet experience :)

one can order a la carte or choose their buffet. my family and i chose the latter which costs p 1,399 during lunch. they have a good selection of international dishes to choose from though i wasn’t able to see any local ones. there were only a few standouts such as their potato gratin and buffalo wings. the rest were just okay.

blame my sweet tooth for this. whenever i dine at a buffet place, it’s a must for me check out their dessert booth. i’m always curious as to how they present it. at this resto, the little signages are replaced with the carefully scripted letters that have seemed to be squeezed out from a tube. the sweets are then placed in an organized manner. aside from these lil slices, they have a fondue station, ice cream corner and fruits platter.

for its price, i find it to be quite expensive. since this is situated at a mall, this really doesn’t battle other buffet places there. it fails in comparison too with other buffet restos at nearby hotels. but if you’re looking to be seated immediately and experience efficient service, then this is for you.

i was surprised to find that there was a buffet here. granted, it is a hotel and hotels tend to have buffets, but i guess i never thought of deliberately going to a hotel just for their buffet.

having been to a number of other buffets during my time here, flavors is just average at best. it's not terrible (what kind of buffet would it be if there was nothing in their repertoire that was appealing), but at the same time, not particularly outstanding. what stood out the most to me was actually a small section offering breakfast goods including pancakes, waffles, sausages, bacon, eggs. thinking back to it, i guess if you were abroad and staying in a relatively good hotel, that's what you would hopefully expect to find as part of your "breakfast included" package (i deliberately go for hotels with free breakfasts personally). there's just something real satisfying about having scrambled eggs and bacon and sausages and pancakes/waffles in a meal. perhaps the opportunities to blend sweet and salty together into one meal. now if only there were danishes and pastries.

anyways, with regards to the food, it's just your standard/average fare which include one of the smaller sushi offerings that i have seen at a buffet, more kid-friendly food than i am used to, the breakfast section that i thoroughly enjoyed, and some more of the usual (pasta station, meat section, grilling section, etc.). again, nothing too special although, i have to admit that with less options available, i was better able to appreciate the food that was available. in a way, with fewer options, i suppose i had more time to try new things and didn't feel overwhelmed as i have in buffets past. for a hotel buffet, it wasn't too bad but then again, i wasn't paying for the meal.

on the plus side, as i've mentioned earlier, there aren't as many people (say in comparison to those buffets located in malls or are more well-known) and there's a much more relaxed and laid-back attitude that one can enjoy. there's no need to compete with people for food and plenty of time to loiter around trying to take the perfect shot of a dish or two. if it has something going for it, it's the minimal crowd.

wrapping it up, flavors is ... okay. it might be worth the visit for those who have tried one too many other buffets in the area and want a buffet that provides a more controlled and limited environment (there's actually such a thing as too much). i really enjoyed having breakfast during my late lunch and so i really hope that they keep providing breakfast options. then again, i could always go to, what i imagine, most good hotels and just have my breakfast buffets there which would make flavors lose its edge in my book.

place is nice and cozy. good selection of food which includes asian and italian. i like their pasta and pizza. one thing though is sashimi is not displayed and you have to ask their sous chef for it which is by the way not always present. we had to stand and wait in front of their sushi kiosk for atleast 5 mins. overall, it was a good dining experience and will try the place again

one word come to mind whenever i think of this place: underwhelming. i mean, they serve great food but other hotel buffets are so much better. their choices are a bit limited. their carving station is small and the overall feel is just blah.

what’s in:

breads and dip
loads of loaves and sauces are available on the side in all shapes and color, just take your pick.

salad bar
create your preferred salad mix with all the greens with your choice of dressing.

grilling station
grill to your heart’s content.

noodle station
make your noodle soup dish just the way you want it.

pork barbeque
this baby pork barbeque’s are in bite size portion and caters the kid’s appetite.

macaroni and cheese
next to pork barbeque is the mac and cheese and it is cute. it is cooked with a very large macaroni pasta that 3-4 pieces will make it a full serving. =)

lamb curry
my favorite kind of meat, it was very tender that you can use just your fork in slicing it down for a bite. it has rich spiced sauce that makes you want more.

pizza
i like my pizza thin crust unless i’m eating at p**** h** joint so i didn’t get one since i don’t think i would enjoy it.
korean glass noodles

commonly known as “japchae” this korean stir fried noodles in sesame oil with vegetables served and meat. to complete the look it is garnished with sesame seeds and slivers of chili.

roasted potatoes with oregano and garlic
best pair for my lamb curry. i enjoyed eating it with the thought that “this is healthy.” hahaha.

paillard of pork lemon and caper butter
not a fan of pork so not much to say on this one.

fish stew on leeky potato cream sauce
dinise liked this one, the creamy sauce compliments the fish without that fishy taste.

boiled beef and vegetables
second to lamb, i indulge myself with a generous serving of beef, sweet and tender. oh that melt in your mouth feeling.

chicken piccata milanaise
chicken breast can be really dull without the right amount of sauce to complement it. the tomato base gave it a perfect flare.

sauted veggie with shrimp
to balance your diet, have some of the veggies (sayote and carrots). chayote is known for its cholesterol controlling component neutralizing high blood pressure. you’ll need it after eating all that meat.

breaded tilapia fillet
your regular fried dish that highlights the sauce bringing it to life. =)

desserts
tons and tons of it, just browse the pictures and you’ll understand. halo-halo corner is available plus your ice cream machine is right next time. time for mix and match. =)

the side story...
they have it refilled as soon as the dishes contains only ¼ of its silverware. i really hoped they had more though. i only enjoyed 2-3 dishes.

failed my expectation. was hoping for an impressive wide variety of foods but was sad that all i was paying for was for the name and hotel ambiance.

buffet selection is wide, varied but quality is not impressive. the place is kid-friendly but i think there could be more improvement on the quality of the dishes they serve. kids didn't like the food, and better if they served french fries and mac and cheese for children. some foods for the kids were too tough to chew for a 4 year old.

for adults, food didn't really meet my expectations. they had greek selection but flavors fell flat on it. my suggestion? serve a limited variety of foods only and focus on these only.
