fellini's

they used to be a lot better.. it has been a while... and it will probably be a while... i had dinner here with a friend recently and can't say that i was to impressed. we sat at the bar, which was probably our own mistake. the dude who was the bartender that evening had a rotten attitude. i don't know if he had a bad day or is just a miserable soul in general but the guy was an ***.

we started off with some garlic cheese bread and my buddy ordered a salad. for my entree i ordered the pizza special that evening which was a mexican pizza. my friend ordered creole ramano.

my app was fine and i didn't hear any complaints about the salad, our entree's weren't so hot. my mexican pizza was so thin and over cooked that it essentially crumbled as i was trying to eat it. the creole ramano came out frozen in the middle and was sent back. instead of putting it in the oven and letting it sit for a while they microwaved it and instead of being frozen in the middle it was just cold and mushy. it went back a 2ndtimeand was ultimately discarded.

all in all, a mundane experience. i expected better from fellini's and hope it's improved the nexttimei'm there.

restaurant inappropriate for children. i went to fellini's for the firsttimelast night with my wife, father and nice year old twins. i was disgusted to find incredibly erotic and potentially pornographic photographs of naked women in erotic poses in the mens room. one featured what looked to be an under age teenager with her shirt off stroking a cat in her lap. i don't consider myself a conservative, but these images were completely inappropriate for a 9 year old boy. if they were in a bar that was not expected to have young children, that would be one thing. but these were completely out of what would be considered tasteful for a family restaurant. my children were very embarrassed and ran out of the bathroom. i confronted the owner and she retorted that these might be images that one might find in the chrysler museum. i responded that one has the choice to take your children to an erotic exhibit at the chrysler because you know what you are getting into. not so the bathroom at a restaurant. also, if they were so artistic, why did she hide them in the bathroom instead of the front of the house? i asked her if she would share these images with her grandchildren and she did not respond. i would strongly urge not frequenting this restaurant with children, or at all due to the way she is exposing other peoples children to images they are too young to see. my wife reported that there were similarly erotic images in the women's room, but as is the double standard, they did not show full frontal nudity of men. but they were still inappropriate for young girls.

i forgot something! i got the kahlúa chocolate mousse pie for dessert. it was heaven!! i will definitely be getting that again :-)

the atmosphere is nice and the servers and hostess were very friendly :-) i was a little disappointed in the food however. we ordered cheese bread for an appetizer and all it is is a sandwich roll with cheese on it smooshed together and cut into strips. if it were a fancy cheese and i can see paying $5.50 for it but it was just kind of sad. we got the shrimp and pesto pizza for dinner. the flavors were great but it was pretty oily. we will definitely go back because it's walking distance to our house but i might try the pasta nexttime:-)

the first few times i went the food was pretty good. the last few times the quality of the meals was so-so. even then i could over looked the inconsistancy in quality because my husband and i enjoy the ambience of the restaurant. unfortunately the lasttimewe went we were treated so poorly by our server (especially in contrast to how personable she was to all her other tables). maybe she assumed "our type" doesn't tip... whatever the case is we will be taking our business elsewhere.

my boyfriend and i went here for a date night. the food had no flavor and the chicken parm tasted watered down. the cesar salad was nothing special and the breadsticks were almost decent. our waitress had no character and when she put the food at the table i had to stand up to reach it. the nexttimewe have a craving for itallian we will be sure to make the drive and pay the higher prices at olive garden.

personal favorite. everytimei go home to norfolk, i have to eat here. it's just ingrained in me i guess...getting two degrees at odu probably did it to me. i love their pizzas, i've tried every one and never been disappointed. the tomato bisque soup is also a tradition for me. lovely little restaurant that remains sophisticated but still casual.

it has been years. i used to meet here with a group of friends from odu. the food was always ok. nothing to get too excited about considering the price and the fact that the owner was murdered on the premises. but whatever.


then i got home one night and realized i had forgotten to leave the receipt with the tip on it because it was in my wallet. i felt bad until it cleared and the server gave him/herself a $15 tip. hmmmm.

i had a good mind to go down and complain but was busy and intimejust dismissed it. however, this was at least five years ago and i have not been back since. the parking can be iffy and it is in a crappy area so that was the proverbial straw. like i said earlier, the food was never that great anyway.

you can't sit at the bar. ellini's was recommended to me, a new comer in the area by a co-worker. she raved about the place. i dined there on a saturday night when there was an odu football game and a basketball game. the place was a madhouse. i was in no hurry and put my name on the list. after waiting a few minutes i saw people going to the bar. i walked to the bar and was grabbed by the hostess and rudely told there was no room for me at the bar. i continued to watch multiple middle age people walk to the bar and only saw another group of twenty-somethings be denied access. when i confronted the hostess she became hostile. i would have left if my party was no so set on eating there as we had already waited 30 minutes for our table, there were 3 open tables the wholetimewe waited. the food was average. we shared a few pizzas, nothing spectacular. i will not be going back!
