can’t believe it took us so long to dine here when it’s literally in our neighborhood! seated promptly (with reservations), server was very pleasant, helpful choosing dishes, loved the ambiance and lighting. steaks and vegetables cooked to perfection! we’ll definitely return to this neighborhood gem

i agree with larry, nothing special. nice atmosphere (although too cold) but thefoodis average at best. the price listed is misleading too- we spent $100 with one beer.
nothing on menu worth mentioning- nothing "bad" but nothing note worthy either. can't imagine where high ratings came from. houston has too many great restaurants to revisit this one.

one of the ten restaurants that i take out of town visitors to, in order to give a representation of what houston has to offer for dining. this is comfortfoodin a very nice place with a waitstaff that is friendly and attentive. i always feel good when i dine here. on the most recent visit, there was a good tortilla soup and a chicken fried steak with a crispy crust atop mashed potatoes. the bacon in the mashed potatoes took over as the flavor component and i would probably investigate something else next time if i wasn't in a bacon mood. but one would be hard pressed to find a dud on this menu. at the time of this writing they have retired their fried chicken entree. but when it comes back on the menu, i recommend it.

save your money & your time. if you're going for a cocktail & maybe an app than it might be worth the trip. thefoodis nothing above & beyond what i can make at home.

maybe the deficit is behind the high prices. like the government, thefoodhere seems one-dimensional, mostly salt, but priced at truffle levels. the chicken fried steak ($18) was pretty small for the price, but was somewhat tasty beef. the breading, however, was big and mostly fell off the steak - not good! the accompanying mashed potatoes offered no relief from the salt. and the brussels sprout side ($6) was unexpectedly also fried and salty and came with a bonus french fry. with the expensive appetizers ($12 and up), expensive salads ($15-$22) and very expensive entrees ($16-$42), i will take my palate elsewhere for more multi-dimensional food.

good food. horrible service. a friend recommended this restaurant and figured we would give it a try. the service started at the door with less than enthused hostesses. after being seated in a dark corner we were greeted by one waiter than another. some confusion i assume created by hostesses.foodwas delicious. pudding for dessert -great. but not only was our waiter less than polite but never once did even thefoodserver say enjoy or much else. just dropped our plate and left. waiter dropped by to take a look and left as well. then the bill came. which turned out not to be ours and then he ran our credit card with the corrected bill before even showing us the real bill. i have had better service 10 years ago at the local chili's. sad, if not for the service i would go back. not now.

this was my second visit to branch water tavern. the first, at lunch on a very slow day, was tasty even though the waiter told me he would rush an order for salad topped with chicken breast as there was only one more serving of chicken breast left. and this was about 11:30 am. tonight it took nearly 1.5 hours for the seven of us to order. meanwhile, others came, ordered and left. the mangolista lardo was cold and worthless, no matter where the pork was raised. the shrimp-wrapped in bacon and venison medallions were equallly cold and not worth the wait or cost. when we mentioned our disppointment with the slow service and coldfoodwhen requesting the check to the waiter, he took a hike and didn't show us his face again (thin and with a stubble of a beard). someone else finished our service. we will not go back again: poor service, coldfoodand a very noisy dining room. the biscuits are excellent, however, there are many better choices in houston.

a semi shady pool hall has been transformed into branch water tavern, seeking only those worthy of its modern green décor & dark hardwood floor. consumed with an explosion of 80's music, the sound produces sporadic moments of musical ecstasy. classic new american cuisine is offered, with an open kitchen enticing one's imagination that much more. branch water tavern describes the menu as "seasonally inspired, featuring local organic meat and produce, locally sourced fish and seafood, and an extensive cured meat and charcuterie program."foodand music are only part of the attractive factor, with a bar capable of massively holding its own. evan turner, beverage director and partner, puts the "t" in tavern. he's not playing games with any aspect of this bar, compiling a luscious wine list, sophisticated enough to compliment any taste. um, let us now quote this master mixologist… "every sommelier dreams of working on a list from the ground up. branch water tavern offers me that opportun

very bad and expensive mistake!. service was some of the worst in houston. many of the items on the menu were not even available. i recommend that they incorporate a daily menu or they need to do a much better job ordering from their wholesalers. they promised that they did have a dessert available for us to purchase. of course they had nothing. the server offered to take off the items we ordered but never received; gee thanks for nothing. they did overcharge our group for items that we did order but never received. i don't think that they were fraudulent or trying to steal my money, but their actions made me wonder. i will give them the benefit of the doubt that they are very poorly organized and leave it at that. the chef may or may not be good. thefoodwe actually received was "ok" and not the worstfoodi ever tasted. however, we were very soured on the terrible overall experience. i even gave them opportunity at the end of the night to do the right thing and provide us with some goodwill, anything to talk me in to coming back to their restaurant or to avoid telling the world of my terrible experience. instead they overbilled us and the manager. i explained to them that they overbilled us, but paid it just to get out of there. still very bitter.

excellentfoodand service. we recently had a wonderful meal at this fine establishment. we heard a review on the 740am and tried it that same day. greatfoodand the wait staff was excellent. when they found out we came all the way from kingwood after hearing the radio show they comp'ed us dessert. definitely go again. thanks branch water!
