extraordinary desserts

when you go to a place calledextraordinarydesserts, you have high expectations. with two locations in san diego, this is where we landed as soon as we arrived there. pad to write down our choices atextraordinarydesserts in san diego. after being greeted, they gave us a pad so we would look around and write down our choices before being seated at a table or at the bar, depending on availability. problem was that there were too many yummy choices there, not that classic at the exception maybe of the lemon bars or chocolate chip cookies that had lots of chocolate. we decided to try the following:

you know only the naysayers and the pessimists would do the extra leg work of trying to debunk any hype. ever seen restaurants maintaining a five stars rating on yelp? 

never. because it will abruptly fail whenever people wanting to knock down a few peg. i guess this was about to be the case atextraordinarydesserts in little italy area of san diego.

my mentor’s daughter was in town over the weekend for the easter weekend and we always make it a point to get together to catch up. besides, i think her mom is secretly using me to get deets on her daughter’s dating life. i suggestedextraordinarydesserts in little italy as i had a few gift cards from costco that i could use to treat us to desserts. they happened to be in the area so the mom dropped off the daughter at the little italy location on a saturday afternoon.

there's no denying that the good people atextraordinarydesserts are good at what they do. i try something new every time i stop in and have never been disappointed. plan on waiting a good while before you get your dessert, it's not unusual for the place to have a line out the door.

this place was an ethereal wonderland in the evenings, and the coffee was excellent. i remember getting some type of white chocolate cake here that was beautifully arranged with edible fresh flowers on top. though this place is hyped to a level of foodie fervor bordering on religious, i found the taste to be not asextraordinaryas the presentation.

good desserts.... the desserts are delicious! if all you want is a big piece of cake or whatever other dessert item you crave, go here! it was jam packed when i first went toextraordinarydesserts. i wrote down what i wanted, and gave it to the cashier, then people bring out the desserts. i felt like a number rather than a customer there. there were so many people there, we decided to eat in the car. there is an area to hang out outside, but it was cold. maybe i would feel more of a customer if i got a table, but i didn't. all in all, get dessert here, but if you're not planning on getting a seat, plan to move through a long line to hand some paper to a cashier, and receive your delicious cake.

...we decided to go toextraordinarydesserts for dinner. this cafe is located in downtown san diego. we waited for around 15-20 minutes in line to be seated. the environment was very nice and the service was excellent. the servers were very attentive and remembered everything that we wanted (including how many cold/hot waters). the desserts were delicious and rich. i ordered the bread pudding, which turned out to be wayyyy too filling than i expected. for the price you paid, this is definitely a good place to head. my boyfriend ordered a raspberry white chocolate cheesecake, which was delicious as well. overall, i really enjoyed the desserts we had and would love to return. ratings 1) environment - 4 2) drinks - n/a - we didn't order any drinks 3) food/desserts - 4.5 4) price - $$ -  approx $10-$15 for a dessert 5) service - 4 overall - 4.5

1.extraordinarycarrot cake (7.95 usd): carrots, of course! golden raisins, orange zest, chunks of pineapple, walnuts, and coconut are enveloped with a light cream cheese mousse. light, nutty, and intensely full of flavor. this carrot cake was moist, flavorful, and paired well with the sauces on the plate. i must say that it comes really close to beating my own recipe for carrot cake, but not quite, heh heh. i think i have the best recipe out there, by the way. i'm still ambivalent about krasne's use of flowers in her cakes. i think they're more of a distraction than an inspired addition.

another amazing time. my daughter's flight was delayed coming into san diego and we had to cancel our reservations at another restaurant so we decided to go toextraordinarydesserts since they serve late. again, another amazing panini and grilled cheese followed by two wonderful desserts.
