this place is a little bit out of the way from the main foot traffic areas in little italy. it's a huge, modern space with straight, clean lines. the desserts are no doubt, fantastic. i had the orange bundt cake and is was fresh, rich and delicious. it had two orange slices and a small rose with gold leaf flakes on top. i suppose you need to do something to justify $5 for a cupcake. the coffee was incredible, but at $2.50 for 8 oz. the price was a bit on the ridiculous side. it might be worth it if you enjoy the finer things. the big downside is the process. it's a complete clusterfudge. you walk into a very crowded front area with beautiful dessert cases on both sides and dining tables in back. throngs of customers walking around completely confused with no direction or help. there is no indication of how to order and no prominent signage to create order. after figuring out where the "to go" line was it took me a while to get to the register. i ordered my small orange cake straight from the display and a small coffee. i was give a number. really... a number? the cake is right there in front of you, just hand it to me and pour my coffee!
i waited for 15 minutes. no joke. for a black coffee and a dessert item from the display. i watched in amusement as about 20 employees dressed in black walked around the space, seemingly doing nothing but moving for the sake of movement. if they had a single employee grabbing desserts from the case as they are ordered they could improve service 200%. it's hard to believe a business of this size, with this much demand has such a broken process.
