extraordinary desserts

this place is a little bit out of the way from the main foot traffic areas in little italy. it's a huge, modern space with straight, clean lines. the desserts are no doubt, fantastic. i had the orange bundt cake and is was fresh, rich and delicious. it had two orange slices and a small rose with gold leaf flakes on top. i suppose you need to do something to justify $5 for a cupcake. the coffee was incredible, but at $2.50 for 8 oz. the price was a bit on the ridiculous side. it might be worth it if you enjoy the finer things. the big downside is the process. it's a complete clusterfudge. you walk into a very crowded front area with beautiful dessert cases on both sides and dining tables in back. throngs of customers walking around completely confused with no direction or help. there is no indication of how to order and no prominent signage to create order. after figuring out where the "to go" line was it took me a while to get to the register. i ordered my small orange cake straight from the display and a small coffee. i was give a number. really... a number? the cake is right there in front of you, just hand it to me and pour my coffee!
i waited for 15 minutes. no joke. for a black coffee and a dessert item from the display. i watched in amusement as about 20 employees dressed in black walked around the space, seemingly doing nothing but moving for the sake of movement. if they had a single employee grabbing desserts from the case as they are ordered they could improve service 200%. it's hard to believe a business of this size, with this much demand has such a broken process.

the atmosphere at the little italy one is definitely different. whereas the one in hillcrest has a homey-comfort feel to it, the little italy location looks much more trendy. it's a lot bigger and serves meals along with dessert. i'm not sure which locati

the deserts are spectacular. the service is average. the atmosphere is a bit clinical and the noise level is high. if you love deserts you'll love this place. otherwise, it's just ok.

edible pieces of art adorned with ornate gold flakes and fresh flower petals. seriously though..some of the most incredible baked goods i have ever laid my eyes on. everything is to die for...especially the lemon berry cheesecake! we ate here 3 times during our week in sd.

eat in or take out. full food & beverage menu available as well :)

my dark chocolate cupcake with raspberry filling was delicious. i also bought and shared a tiramisu glazed coffee scone. i originally came in looking for my favorite: passion fruit cake, but i did not see it on display this time.

when you go to a place called extraordinary desserts, you have high expectations. with two locations in san diego, this is where we landed as soon as we arrived there. pad to write down our choices at extraordinary desserts in san diego. after being greeted, they gave us a pad so we would look around and write down our choices before being seated at a table or at the bar, depending on availability. problem was that there were too many yummy choices there, not that classic at the exception maybe of the lemon bars or chocolate chip cookies that had lots of chocolate. we decided to try the following:

had the bundt chocolate truffle.it was tasty but the raspberry at the end was too sour. i loved the place and the variety. probably would've tried more if i hadn't been stuffed.

very pretty desserts because they put colorful flowers petals on top of them. they are good. prices seemed to vary a lot between deserts. some seemed reasonable and some seemed really high. if you need a sweets fix it is worth trying.

after eating in little italy my cousin brought us here after talking us out of tiramisu for dessert. our friends and family of 8 were able to grab a table and then peruse all the decadent desserts.

you know only the naysayers and the pessimists would do the extra leg work of trying to debunk any hype. ever seen restaurants maintaining a five stars rating on yelp?

never. because it will abruptly fail whenever people wanting to knock down a few peg. i guess this was about to be the case at extraordinary desserts in little italy area of san diego.

amazing ambiance and amazing desserts!! we stopped here only for dessert and i wish we would've ate dinner there as well. the presentation of the food was beautiful and it tasted just as great! they also have unlimited refills on coffee which was a win in our book.

it’s a san diego institution. it was even mentioned when we were on one of those seal bus/boat tours. with the hype that this business has received over the years it’s almost impossible for expectations to be met. first of all, the place is a madhouse and it was only a tuesday night! i’d hate to see what it’s like on a weekend. the ordering system is confusing and pure chaos. they give you a clipboard for you to write down what you want, then you have to find the line for the register to place your order. that’s followed by standing around in a crowded space with dozens of other people while you wait for your order to be filled if you’re getting it to go.
