terrible service, a complete disappointment. having visited on a sunday i felt it necessary to post a review in regards to theservice& attitude display by a particular waitress. having sat outside for lunch we waited a little over 5minutes to be given a menu & ordered a coffee & water. another 10mins passed & our drinks came. immediately we ordered soup, sandwich & a mackerel salad - quick & easy?. as time began to pass people who had arriving after us were tucking into their grub as we sat starving. the waitress, who by now had stopped coming outside appeared 25mins later to say food shouldnt be long kitchen was busy - again we were waiting on soup, sandwich & salad. finally at an impressive 35mins after ordering, our food came and so did the rain! we asked to be seated inside, there was no seats, fair enough not her fault but we said we cant eat in the rain, and to be honest 35mins, busy or not, was a ridiculous time to wait for soup & salad. to which the waitress became flustered and in an alarming tone and attitude said 'right ... ok' and walked away from us with the food!! as she hop stepped away like a huffy 12yr old my fiance asked for the drinks bill which we got a 'its fine' as she scurried away with her back to us! the whole situation was remarkable and somewhat embarrassing, her tone was shocking. i have never experienced such a response from a waitress - thank god! whilst we acknowledged with here there was nothing to be done about there being no indoor seating, there was no apology made for the fact our food - which to be honest doesnt take much prep - took 35mins to arrive, that people sitting inside were tucking into their food despite arriving well after us and . we both walked away in dismay having had an adult act like a child and turn their back on us and walk away. its sad because i normally enjoy epicures but i will never return after this display of 'customer service' and i will certainly be telling my friends who also frequent epicures of this terrible service. this one waitress has effectively ruined my opinion of this establishment and i will no longer recommend it to people. from previous reviews it seems i might not be the only person to received the wrath of epicures service!! shame

dont bother!. other places in the area with betterserviceand food. manageress wasn't the most pleasent either. i think its ok if you are a regular. they will need to step up if they are trying attract new custom as plenty of competition near by and already not great reviews.

severely disappointed. my partner and i have given epicures so many chances. the first time we went theservicewas terrible - we waited for our order to be taken for around 15 mins after having been seated, we were served by numerous different waitresses, none of which smiled or made an effort to be pleasant. we gave it a few more tries and it seemed that they were slowly coming to terms with what serving customers means. however, our latest visit has made us realise we should just give up with this place. we arrived and waited to be seated. after a good few minutes of hanging around near the bar waiting for any member or staff to approach us (or any staff behind the bar to acknowledge us) to take us to a table we just decided to walk out. if you are not going to bother seeing to customers as they come in don't have a sign saying "please let us seat you", just let us chose a table ourselves.
it's a pity as the food in epicures is pretty decent, but it seems the place is too far up its own backside to bother with customers.

exceedingly good cakes. i've had my ups and downs with this place, having gone there semi-regularly since it opened. the food,serviceand ambience has variably been good, great, not so good, and occasionally terrible. i accept that restaurants operate with a transient workforce, and that this can cause inconsistencies in product andserviceover a given period of time. the one thing, however, that has remained at an excellent standard in epicures is its cakes, pastries, scones, breads and all other things baked. i'm more of an afternoon diner so often choose from the pastry menu, wherever i happen to be, and can honestly state that epicures' range of freshly baked goods is of a standard unrivalled by any of its local competitors. not that this should reflect badly on these other business, just that epicures does do, as mr kipling might put it, exceedingly good cakes.

atmosphere good food terrible andservicegrumpy- an embarrasment for us personally as taking a visiting academic from canada (staying hotel du vin ) for jet lag supper - and as scottish hospitality goes - a poor example - at best an over priced bar-

mixed opinions!. saturday afternoon, 5 of us went to epicures for lunch. it was really busy and really noisy but we were seated within 5 minutes of waiting. the manageress was lovely and cheery and seemed really efficient at getting everyone in and sat down. the problem with west end places like epicures are the omin-present 'ladies that lunch' who sit for 3 and a half hours over a bottle of wine and some salad. hurry up and leave!!

theservicewas really impressive. over the course of our meal we had 3 different waitresses but they were all brilliant. i was a bit nervous at the one who took our main course orders without writing them down but the 5 of us got everything exactly as we asked. one of us got the soup which was a huge bowl of carrot and parsley served with soda bread. the pastrami sandwich looked great but strangely a lump of cous cous accompanied it on the plate. odd but looked pretty though. the veggie ploughman's lunch had far too much blue cheese on the plate but still looked bright and appetising with some lovely home made picalilli. i had the seafood platter which had a mound of smoked salmon, some prawn cocktail, mackerel pate and another terrine and some skewered prawns as well as some salad leaves to pad it our. far too expensive at £9.50 (i think) and there wasn't enough bread served with it. unfortunately i was still hungry afterwards! i also hate eating off wooden plates. they look pretty but i can't help feeling they are unhygienic.

the cake menu was diverse and interesting but still had old favourites like scones served with clotted cream and carrot cake. the £3.60 parsnip and maple cake my other half had came with a dollop of cream and was moist and delicious. coffees and teas came with a tiny cube of tasty brownie and one of our party liked it so much he ordered a whole one. he said it was awesome….

all in all i think it's far too noisy, it was cold and it's really expensive. but if someone else is paying and you don't mind not talking (you really can't hear each other speak) then i would think about going again but take a cardigan with you! had heard from others that theservicewas shocking - it certainly wasn't on saturday.

extremely disapointing customerserviceexperience following a complaint about bland food. will not be going back or recommending this place to anyone i know.

a somewhat bizarre evening.... ... i dined at this restaurant on the 27th of january and, have to say was extremely disappointed with theservicei received. i have dined at epicures of hyndland many times before and, was shocked how the evening turned out. although there was disappointingservicefrom the staff, the manageress on the other hand was the opposite. she could not have been more apologetic towards the way the evening turned out and, for that reason i shall be dining there again soon. there is something to be said for everything in this life but, truth be told i am glad that the manageress know's how to run this establishment. as if she wasn't there i doubt that epicures would exist!!!

epicures new menu love it!!!. big news at epicures...i am local and love the place but have found the menu a bit limited.by chance was in for dinner last night and to my surprise found they had launched new menu!!!not before time but from what i saw and tasted it has been worth the wait.i had fantastic goats chees tart to start altho if i had been a bit more adventurous would have tried the snails!!!my partner had the seafood starter which he said was fabulous.for mains i had the gorgeous beef bourgingon and my partner had the chicken schnitzel again both great dishes.from what i can remeber there is a huge choice of fish , meat and veggy options so should be something for everyone.think this menu is really going to establish epicures as a nightime dinner destination.servicegreat but then i have never had a problem with it.the blonde girl think her name is bree does a fab job.

f.a.b.. lovely bright surroundings for a well cooked lunch. great stuff. i would quite happily wait an extra 10 minutes for a plate of their fabulous chowder rather than be served up fast food.

john g. i took my mother to epicures for mothers day. had a wonderful time. use epicures regularly as i have a g 12 post code and have made my local ,even though always busy love the staffserviceand food. great atmosphere and design. as a nicks regular as well was delighted with tthis new addition to the west end .well done epicures. john g

i eat regularly in the west end, and now most frequently at epicures. i haven't experienced poorserviceand the food is consistently good. i was shocked to read the personal comment directed at the manager, by a previous reviewer. that says far more about the writer, than the restaurant itself. debbie r.

a terrible way to start the day. my partner and i went to epicures to sample their breakfast menu. i had previously been for lunch, dinner and coffee and each time theservicewas average and the food variable. however, as this is pretty local for me and as somebody who regularly enjoys breakfast out at the weekend, i thought we should give it a try. having ordered my staple breakfast choice (eggs benedict), i was rather surprised to find that the first of my two poached eggs was still half raw...as it was only 8.30 am and i don't normally like to complain, i had it, hoping that the second one would be better...and it wasn't. i called the waitress over and explained that the egg was very undercooked and was asked whether i wanted another one. having lost faith in the dish i asked if i could have a bacon roll instead and after a trip back to the kitchen, she comes back to curtly inform me that they "can't just give me a bacon roll, i would have to order it" (and pay for it obviously). clearly annoyed at this i refused, and my partner asked for the bill (his big breakfast was ok, if average). we were both stunned to find that the eggs benedict still featured on our bill, and when he went to speak to them about it, he was told that "as i had already eaten some of it they would only consider taking half of it off". for an establishment that is still in its early days, that is customerservicesuicide. he paid, we left, and we will never be going back for breakfast, lunch or dinner. i hope they realise that £3 was not worth that.

very sociable. my husband and i visit epicures every weekend as we not only enjoy 'people watching', but the atmosphere is great, theserviceis excellent and the staff are extremely friendly and professional especially the blonde manageress. it is our favourite informal venue and we have many such places where we live in pollokshields but none compare as favourably to epicures. by the way, we have always enjoyed what we ordered. mary

stupidly went back here after writing a review titled 'avoid'. i was in need of a quick fix of coffee and epicures was right there. walked out after waiting too long to be served. was hoping to write that the place has improved but clearly not... never stepping foot in the place again.

avoid. me and my partner eat out all the time and this is one place we will not return to.
it was busy, which is obviously not a complaint, but it took ages just to get a menu and people that arrived after us got served before us?!
it took forever to get our food and for the price, the food wasn't that great. theservicewas poor as well, the girl serving us was actually quite ignorant. when asked about the food she didn't go into any great detail, sounded like she didn't even know the menu at all and looked miserable and annoyed that we were asking questions. other waitresses seemed far more attentive.

it's a shame as it has the potential to be a great local. lovely decor and huge windows to people watch... just a few major improvements needed !

fantastic coffee!. great, friendly ser vice! they were jam packed so i took a seat at the bar for a coffee. loved everything about the place- staff, atmosphere, efficientserviceand a perfectly made cappucino. everyone was all smiles and seemed to be enjoying themselves. will be back.
