entrecôte south yarra. we had dinner at this establishment approx two weeks ago. i should have known looking at the greensteakphotos beforehand that it will not bode well.
when it eventually came to placing our orders we enquired about the different cuts ofsteakthat was available.
oh no, madam, it is porterhouse or porterhouse, that's it! being advertised as asteakhouse we thought that a variety of cuts would be available to choose from. three of us decided to have the porterhouse which was tough, tasteless and smothered in this green cumin goo. i opted for two small entre portions that were okay but i left hungry.
we definitely will not be back (sorry arnie).

we came here for thesteakit was truly delightful. however if it was a bit hotter it would have been perfect. we sampled the snails which were garlicky and so good with some crunchy bread. great parisian bistro feel.

underwhelming considering the reviews. meals are over priced and under seasoned. the ambiance is beautiful but wouldn't go back apart from coffee. would prefer france soir for asteakand frites which is more authentic.

usually go for dinner forsteakand frites, but today decided to try brunch and very very disappointed. ordered the royal, portion was small due to small servings of smoked salmon. very pricey for what u get. never again.

only highlights of dining at entrecôte are the extremely good complimentary bread and butter, good service and salad that accompanied thesteakfrites. for thesteakitself, ordered it medium rare, but was tough and a little dried. whereas the frites were nothing to shout about. the quality of the dish is not worth the price. but the complimentary bread though, warm and fluffy on the inside and crunchy outside, was sooo good!

mixed.steakwas so tender - as a beef producer, could not fault it. however the sauce with it did nothing for it. salad/chips/wine all good - but there was something lacking about the place...

had a really pleasant dinner here with my parents for my last day of being a teenager (before my inevitable quarterlife crisis kicks in!!) located conveniently near my place, this french restaurant is set in a gorgeous old house, dimly yet beautifully lit, the wait staff were very professional. my raresteakfrites was a real treat with a delicious 'secret' sauce, i was tasting pepper, tarragon and egg, don't know what else though! the frites were perhaps a tiny bit too salty but good nonetheless and the fresh salad was yummy with radish and walnuts added to lettuce. was the first time i've eatensteakand i loved how it was cooked just on rare the way i requested it. i had a le paon cocktail with gin, creme de violette, cointreau and citron and it was divine :d we all shared a creme brûlée for dessert which was truly silky and gorgeous but too full to finish it! overall a very indulgent (and way pricey) experience! not my favourite cuisine as it is very rich, and the atmosphere is really centered around high dining etiquette, but i loved the overall experience. would come back for afternoon or brunch cocktails!

the most overrated place in melbourne! i feel sorry for people that come here and are fooled that this is good food. i had the zucchini and snap pea salad and poached chicken for main. you would get better food on a cruise ship, it was cold and the plate was cold, does the food come in prepped in a warehouse? i couldn't order thesteakas the her butter has anchovy in it not that the waiter even knew this - $80 still hungry, service was ok. they are not winning any awards here for the food, expectation was high and unfortunately below average, go elsewhere, the food is pre-packaged, tiny serves and way too hot inside, no air con - such a horrible experience

entrecote was a great experience into fully french dining, offering some classics like beef tartare and snails in garlic and herb butter.

ordered: menu gourmand, three courses ($94.90)
🐌 escargots a la bourguignonne: snails baked in garlic & herb butter (6 snails)
🥩 tartare de boeuf: cornichon, egg yolk, sauce epicee, mustard leaf smoked tomato potato crisps

🥩🍟 entrecote signaturesteakfrites: pasture fed cape grim angus porterhouse, frites, our secret herb butter sauce

🍋🍰 tarte au citron: our incredible lemon tart, creme fraiche

review:
although i added an extra entree into the ordered list above, please note i stole it from my partner because i wanted to talk about it.
the entrees were amazing. snails were tender to eat (i've had them chewy before) and dipped in this oily, flavourful, fattening garlic and herb butter gave it this decadent creamy taste. just excellent!
also enjoyed entrecote's beef tartare. i haven't had smoked tomato potato crisps before, and having it alone really dulled my senses. i feel like i only enjoyed it because of the differing texture to the soft minced beef. adding in this egg made it loose, and very edible. also great!

what wasn't fantastic was the entrecote signaturesteakfrites. i'm quite picky with my meats, and prefer a rib eye. my idealsteakhas a balance of meat to fat ratio, where you get enough flavour from the fat. unfortunately, entrecote's steak, cooked medium rare, came out lean and became a bit tiresome to eat for me. although +1 that they provided mustard as a side (i adore), it still wasn't enough for me to enjoy the meal. chips were average as well - nothing special.

i'll briefly touch on dessert, but the lemon tart was also great. not one of the best i've had, but with the creme fraiche it really mellowed out the bite of the lemon tart. but the refreshing nature was a great way to end the meal.

gorgeous interior, very private and attentive waitstaff who was at the ready with keeping my water topped up. all in all, it was a nice experience but nothing would really bait me to come back and travel here again.
unless i was already conveniently in the area, and wanted some delicious entrees.

while oysters and snails were delicious thesteakwas terrible ... looked like it was from different cuts of meat and terribly chewy despite cooked medium !
had to ask for a newsteakafter chewing a few pieces for 5 minutes and not being able to swallow ! no apology offered either... shame as it was our 10 year wedding anniversary ... much better places forsteaki would suggest .. nice building though

finally we dined at entrecote after hearing so many wonderful reports, especially of the signaturesteakdish.while we enjoyed the small walk from our home, the ambience, and the friendly staff, the meal was very disappointing.  bland presentation: thesteaktotally covered with the sauce with a huge serve of french fries filling up the plate with a fairly unimaginative salad on the side. the highly reputedsteakwas cooked beyond our liking, very dry...no juices at all and well, very chewy. there was no danger of eating too quickly with this meal!  the meal bore no resemblance to the meal in the photo! it was disappointing and expensive!there are definitely much better alternatives out and about for a delicioussteakat half the price!

oui oui oui!!! i went to entrecôte to try thesteakfrites because i'd heard about it from friends, and it did not disappoint. just a really good combination: juicy meat, a super sauce and nice shoestring fries. all washed down with a nice bottle of french red. excellent work guys!
