eleven city diner

we wandered the area and noticed this place. it was bustling and yet we got seated immediately! food was delish and the portions were huge!greatway to start day one of star wars celebration in chicago.

great place ton of fun with kids and awesome food. i am not a bloody mary drinker but it was awesome. good wine and everything we ordered was delicious . owner was walking around and super friendly. loved the valet on the way out of town and kids loved the candy shop on easter.greatplace we lucked into.

fantastic! perfect for brunch.greatatmosphere andgreatmimosas! much better wait line than yoke a block over, plus yoke is full of noisy tourists. the only issue is that the diner charges each person $3.00 or more for shitty diner coffee. so, just get coffee somewhere else.

worst customer service ever!
i am not a resident of chicago il and as a visitor heard that eleven was agreatplace to go with wonderful food. unfortunately, i never had the opportunity to experience the food due to extremely poor customer service. i arrived to the restaurant with a large group, however not all members of the group accompanied the eight of us that were in the restaurant. the owner greeted us with the immediate response that all members of our party needed to be present and told our entire party to stand to the side, as not to startle the incoming customers. we obliged. we understood that all members needed to be with us, but asked if there were any accommodations that could be made. the owner, came back and told us that he could accommodate ten people, but reiterated that the other two people, upon arrival would not be able to sit with us. which we understood. however, this point he presumed was not clear because he re-stated it another two times, with the unnecessary presumption that we would proceed to "get in his face" if they were to arrive and not be seated with us, this which he based on his "30 years of restaurant experience." each member of our party assured him that that would be fine. as we waited, the hostess assured us that the owner does not usually behave in this way and that he may have been overwhelmed. however it was 2pm on christmas eve and there were only a handful of customers. the owner, came back and angrily asked us where the "other two members of our party were." at that point, having been harassed by the owner of the establishment, it was pretty clear to our large party that the owner did not want to accommodate a group of young professionals. we promptly took our business elsewhere. the owner literally came back to our group at least four times, while we were waiting as he instructed, to reiterate that we would end up "getting in his face" and that it "would not be pretty. "this was the worst customer service my party and i have ever experienced, especially by the owner of an establishment. his customer service training clearly only extends to a certain type of customer, that category the owner presumed my party failed to fit. i will not recommend this restaurant to my worst enemy.

the owner grabbed the host station as they were slammed. he is very direct and has a strong personality that some patrons did not appreciate (typical tourists). my opinion is he's agreatconductor running a fantastic orchestra. food was outstanding. i had the corned beef and pastrami hash. one of the best bloody mary's i've had in chicago. portions are huge.greatfor working off a hangover.

fantastic classic jewish delicatessen, reallygreatvibe inside, and most of the wait staff is great. my go to for breakfast is the tom waits which is about 100lbs. of breakfast food, and my go to lunch item is the schwartzy. matzo ball soup is on point, and they have a unique selection of classic sodas. 11 city is one of the best brunch and lunch spots in the sloop.

hair of a dog. i was visiting from australia for lollapalooza and this is a short stroll to hotel essex where i was staying and the festival entrance.greatplace to come to cure my hangover with a pre festval bagel and lox and a bloody mary. highly recommended

visited chicago from manhattan so i know good kosher style meat sandwiches- the corned beef sandwich was delcious- a nice portion on nice fresh rye- this was better then some nyc deli's- service wasgreattoo- i would recommend in a hearbeat- meat lean- better then average rye bread

mmmmm...we went two days in a row. pesto omelette & house french toast were both delicious.greatcoffee,greatatmosphere, homer's ice cream!

great atmosphere, friendly staff, and matzoball soup & corned beef sandwiches that are pretty much a perfection of the art. they achieve exactly what they are aiming for w/ thisgreatdeli/diner!

love it!!. i cannot say enough about the eleven city diner! it is definitely what the city has been missing for so many years. the food is great(for vegetarians too) and the surface is always friendly and helpful. lots of choices depending on the time of day you come. good for breakfast.greatfor afternoon coffee and a yummy bagel. what would brunch be without the diner??

delicious-y goodness!. my husband and i rate this our top spot for an omlette or a corned-beef sandwich, and if you celebrate passover, they cater to your needs too. this is a stroller-friendly, neighborhood hot spot where they literally serve everything, all day long. the owner isgreatand shmoozes with everyone to make you feel at home. there is a parking lot next to the restaurant making this hot spot accessible for everyone.

eleven city diner. i very much enjoy taking my family to this very popular spot. we have always hadgreatfoood, andgreatservice. it's exactly what we're looking for in a restaurant like this:greatfood and service; not other places like it really; lots of energy so its fun to be there; and quite a selection of things to eat - all seem very high quality.

we like the little touches that make it more than just another neighborhood restaurant, like the "mom" that often will seat us (who doesn't like that attention); to the soda "jerk" making milk shakes. good looking staff too.


sometimes you have to wait to get seated, but that of course if way better than walking into a "dead" restaurant with no customers. there's a line for a reason.
we go on the weeknds quite a bit.
