eleven city diner

we wandered the area and noticed this place. it was bustling and yet we got seated immediately!foodwas delish and the portions were huge! great way to start day one of star wars celebration in chicago.

i visited this place 1 month ago with my friend .

when i am in chicago , my friend and me were very hungry and our family is out of station so we mutually decided to go out and have somefood.

the best sandwiches i ever eaten .

the ambience was quite simple but as per my opinion , simplicity is the best policy .

service was good .


i will recommend this place if you around this place you must visit .

this place is one of the coolest place i have ever been.foodtastes regular but the ambience and decoration is beautiful. old retro look, cement wall made this place special.

worst customer service ever!
i am not a resident of chicago il and as a visitor heard that eleven was a great place to go with wonderful food. unfortunately, i never had the opportunity to experience thefooddue to extremely poor customer service. i arrived to the restaurant with a large group, however not all members of the group accompanied the eight of us that were in the restaurant. the owner greeted us with the immediate response that all members of our party needed to be present and told our entire party to stand to the side, as not to startle the incoming customers. we obliged. we understood that all members needed to be with us, but asked if there were any accommodations that could be made. the owner, came back and told us that he could accommodate ten people, but reiterated that the other two people, upon arrival would not be able to sit with us. which we understood. however, this point he presumed was not clear because he re-stated it another two times, with the unnecessary presumption that we would proceed to "get in his face" if they were to arrive and not be seated with us, this which he based on his "30 years of restaurant experience." each member of our party assured him that that would be fine. as we waited, the hostess assured us that the owner does not usually behave in this way and that he may have been overwhelmed. however it was 2pm on christmas eve and there were only a handful of customers. the owner, came back and angrily asked us where the "other two members of our party were." at that point, having been harassed by the owner of the establishment, it was pretty clear to our large party that the owner did not want to accommodate a group of young professionals. we promptly took our business elsewhere. the owner literally came back to our group at least four times, while we were waiting as he instructed, to reiterate that we would end up "getting in his face" and that it "would not be pretty. "this was the worst customer service my party and i have ever experienced, especially by the owner of an establishment. his customer service training clearly only extends to a certain type of customer, that category the owner presumed my party failed to fit. i will not recommend this restaurant to my worst enemy.

for the first time in my life, i was actually thrown out of a restaurant (eleven city diner, 1112 s wabash ave, chicago, il 60605) by the owner and was told that i wasn't allowed in there again after patronizing the restaurant for the last three months on a weekly basis. 

thefoodis incredible. the staff is amazing except for one exception -- the owner.  

in my entire life -- i have never seen anyone treat his staff so horribly and disrespectful. to be completely honest, i never said anything to him about the way he treated his customers and staff until today (9.27.15) because i loved thefoodso much and the staff. however, today, for the first time, myfoodwas cold. when i said something to the owner about it, he treated me like crap. then, at that point, i finally decided to give him constructive feedback about his management style. he proceeded to literally throw me out of his establishment and told the host to never allow me in there again.

so, despite my love for theirfoodand their incredible staff, i stuck to my principles -- and made a moral choice rather than the easy way out--continuing to support the restaurant. no one deserves to be treated like the way this owner treats his customers and staff. no one.

this was a treat! this is what i would call a diner with a lot of traditional options. we were there for breakfast and it was all top notch food. tasty and fresh! service was attentive andfoodcame fast. there bloody mary is a must and the belgian waffles with fresh fruit!

the owner grabbed the host station as they were slammed. he is very direct and has a strong personality that some patrons did not appreciate (typical tourists). my opinion is he's a great conductor running a fantastic orchestra.foodwas outstanding. i had the corned beef and pastrami hash. one of the best bloody mary's i've had in chicago. portions are huge. great for working off a hangover.

excellentfoodbut..... my nephew's macaroni and cheese cost $21.95! so, i'm on vacation with my wife, daughter(10) and nephew(8) staying in downtown chicago.

goodfoodbut high prices and mean management. but the waiters are nice.

love it!!. i cannot say enough about the eleven city diner! it is definitely what the city has been missing for so many years. thefoodis great(for vegetarians too) and the surface is always friendly and helpful. lots of choices depending on the time of day you come. good for breakfast. great for afternoon coffee and a yummy bagel. what would brunch be without the diner??

eleven city diner. i very much enjoy taking my family to this very popular spot. we have always had great foood, and great service. it's exactly what we're looking for in a restaurant like this: greatfoodand service; not other places like it really; lots of energy so its fun to be there; and quite a selection of things to eat - all seem very high quality.

we like the little touches that make it more than just another neighborhood restaurant, like the "mom" that often will seat us (who doesn't like that attention); to the soda "jerk" making milk shakes. good looking staff too.


sometimes you have to wait to get seated, but that of course if way better than walking into a "dead" restaurant with no customers. there's a line for a reason.
we go on the weeknds quite a bit.

i did like this place. thefoodwas very good, the soda jerk was very nice, but the manager/owner was a jerk. if you go to this place, you'll know who i mean. thefoodis good, though

over hyped. i went today on a recommendation. a colleuge told me about it so i was in the neighborhood and hungry. this place is an overpriced wannabe deli. pastrami was very good and the corned beef dry. the fries sucked. $40 for lunch for 2 this guy is going to retire rich. a big disappointment,foodtook to long to get though the breakfast items looked good. i will give this guy credit as they do have big portions.

awesome!!!. this place is awesome. thefoodis excellent, the atmosphere is amazing, and the people are so nice!!
