as a fan of stephen starr i am always in love with his unique restaurants. the guacamole is delicious and freshly prepared before you, the place is colorful and comfortable, and thefoodis delicious. the churros were excellent and not greasy while the chipotle tacos were spicy and tasty. if in philly, definitely hit up el vez

high expectations-didn't pan out.foodwas good, service was terrible. we went there for lunch & there were hardly any customers. tons of staff but they were too busy bowing down to some folks in the corner...sigh. i actually had to walk to bar to get 2 new drinks for hubby and me. not cool.

i love this place. the decor is super cool and thefoodis great. it is very busy at times and i see why. if you love margaritas and mexican food, you will love this place.

recently went for dinner after my daughters graduation at kimmel center. we had a wonderful meal, starting with margaritas and guacamole, followed by some great chicken, carne asade and shortrib tacos with generous portion sides of beans and rice. they were all delicious and we finished with some churros with chocolate. the service however was even more outstanding. i mentioned my phone was dying and soon the host came over to say someone overheard and he would charge it for me. the waiters andfoodservers were all very gracious and polite. a definite stop on my next visit to philly

over priced mexican food.foodwas ok nothing to brag about. margaritas were great. how hard is it to make those really... just another restaurant trying to seem like they are something more than they are. dish size were ok. quality offoodwas blah to say the least. definitely been to better mexican places to eat than this one. i will not be returning.

we had a work lunch here last week and thefoodwas served family style. the veggie enchiladas were great. i always love the chips and salsa, mainly because their salsa verde us so good.

always wanted to try here being i love mexican & had heard so much finally made it for lunch but wasn't really impressed with thefoodespecially for the cost. had the enchiladas mixas which were just okay additionally what mexican restaurant doesn't give you tortilla chips with salsa here you have to purchase them. the inside is very hip & fun, service pleasant being it was a weekday afternoon so didn't try the margaritas.

love me some el vez.  honestly, i feel like this place always gets touted as overrated just because of all of the hype it gets, but it has a cool, decked out interior, thefoodand drinks are great, and while it is expensive, the quality of what you get is certainly on par with what you spend.

i came most recently for brunch, and i went with some guac (obvi), the huevos sopes, and some margarita that seriously knocked the hangover right out of me - the thing was strong!  the huevos sopes were superb, and resembled your typical eggs benny, but were vary flavourful.  and the guacamole is just spot on, no matter which you get.

nofoodfor you. we were visiting philadelphia from out of town and wanted to get a quick dinner on sunday afternoon. there were no tables available and the waiting time was ridiculously long (common it is burrito place).
advise to the front staff. never ever offer a table for a family with a kid and expect them to wait for 1 1/2 hours. it sounds ridiculous. we were cracking jokes about it for the rest of our trip. we ended up going to the chipotle which was two blocks away. on the positive note the gelato place across the street was outstanding.

must go to when in philly!. really hip and trendy atmosphere! thefoodwas outstanding. i had the taco sample platter, it was very good, i couldn't choose which one i liked the best. my husband had the carne asada, he loved it! we also had the tuna ceviche for an appetizer. it was served with housemade chips but it was so yummy i just wanted to eat it with a spoon. the only thing i didn't enjoy was my margarita. it was too strong for me. i'm from wisconsin and was in philly for business. next time i'm in philly, i will certainly go again!

overall, i’d say el vez was decent. the drinks made me happy and thefoodwas priced very reasonably.

philly staple. really goodfoodthat is simple and yet still creative. thefoodis incredibly fresh and cooked well. i've tried most of the guacamole appetizers and each has been good. all of my meals have been fantastic, but the mahi mahi tacos are my go to entree and i always get the corn rice, which is overly indulgent but also delicious. the drinks are outstanding (and strong) and the environment is fun, young, and energetic. i take all of my out of town guests here...it's just too good.

..it's all about the food, and thefooddelivered. not inexpensive, but not insane either by "big city" price standards. would definitely return.
