as a fan of stephen starr i am always in love with his unique restaurants. the guacamole is delicious and freshly prepared before you, the place is colorful and comfortable, and the food is delicious. the churros were excellent and not greasy while the chipotle tacos were spicy and tasty. if in philly, definitely hit up el vez

high expectations-didn't pan out. food was good, service was terrible. we went there for lunch & there were hardly any customers. tons of staff but they were too busy bowing down to some folks in the corner...sigh. i actually had to walk to bar to get 2 new drinks for hubby and me. not cool.

good atmosphere and 7/10 food. i went here with my girlfriend and we ordered the mahi mahi tacos, macho nachos with a side of guacamole, colache tacos. the mahi mahi tacos were great compared to most. i've had better but these rank high. the macho nachos were great. putting them on flat service and evenly spreading toppings is the best idea. the only downside were the colache tacos which were okay at best. nothing special, didn't hate them but didn't absolutely like them either. service was nice and kind. prompt with refills and suggestions were on point. highly recommend going here but choose wisely with the food.

great food in philly

i love this place. the decor is super cool and the food is great. it is very busy at times and i see why. if you love margaritas and mexican food, you will love this place.

recently went for dinner after my daughters graduation at kimmel center. we had a wonderful meal, starting with margaritas and guacamole, followed by some great chicken, carne asade and shortrib tacos with generous portion sides of beans and rice. they were all delicious and we finished with some churros with chocolate. the service however was even more outstanding. i mentioned my phone was dying and soon the host came over to say someone overheard and he would charge it for me. the waiters and food servers were all very gracious and polite. a definite stop on my next visit to philly

went to el vez for a quick lunch before hopping around the city. walked in and with our reservation, we were seated right away. our server was promptly at our table and made some recommendations on things that she liked. we decided on both of us having the chicken soft tacos ( cheese, avocado, tomatillo & tomato salsa, crema) and one had the tortilla soup, all which were excellent. they have a great tequila selection, although i decided on a dos equis amber on tap. lunch was served promptly ans it was a great value for $42.00 would definitely recommend this to others, but beware, i would make reservations for lunch as well as dinner

absolutely delicious! the homemade guacamole was excellent. i had the magi tacos for my entree and they were outstanding. service was excellent as well. we dined for lunch early on a saturday and had no wait.

blood orange margaritas? sold! delicious! great food, great location. love the different options for guacamole. interesting decor and bar.

a bit of a tourist spot.

over priced mexican food. food was ok nothing to brag about. margaritas were great. how hard is it to make those really... just another restaurant trying to seem like they are something more than they are. dish size were ok. quality of food was blah to say the least. definitely been to better mexican places to eat than this one. i will not be returning.

this is one of our favorite mexican restaurants to go to! it's got a bumping atmosphere and plenty of margaritas on offer. do try the enchiladas or taco mixto platters - they will blow your mind. the mahi mahi tacos in particular are quite good. the gf will always recommend the black bean enchiladas. we're particular to the goat cheese and pistachio guac - life changing. we're sad that they've done away with the short rib for the macho nachos, but it's still a hefty app to share.

we had a work lunch here last week and the food was served family style. the veggie enchiladas were great. i always love the chips and salsa, mainly because their salsa verde us so good.

lived up to the hype for sure. usually when someone builds up my expectations about any restaurant i usually leave disappointed but not with el vez. the chicken burrito was cooked really well and so was the black bean enchilada. loved their retro ambience. great place to take the family and leave with a happy belly!

always wanted to try here being i love mexican & had heard so much finally made it for lunch but wasn't really impressed with the food especially for the cost. had the enchiladas mixas which were just okay additionally what mexican restaurant doesn't give you tortilla chips with salsa here you have to purchase them. the inside is very hip & fun, service pleasant being it was a weekday afternoon so didn't try the margaritas.

el vez is a great philly-centric spot for out-of-towners and locals alike.  they do a vodka margarita (for those of us who aren't so good with tequila) and a crab guacamole that is to die for.  great choice for dinner, even better for a boozy brunch!
