i go to el vez for the margaritas and guacamole. sure, i can find a cheaper marg (and i could absolutely find cheaper guac) but going to el vez is a novelty that everyone in philly wants to experience at least once. great atmosphere!

love me some el vez.  honestly, i feel like this place always gets touted as overrated just because of all of the hype it gets, but it has a cool, decked out interior, the food and drinks are great, and while it is expensive, the quality of what you get is certainly on par with what you spend.

i came most recently for brunch, and i went with some guac (obvi), the huevos sopes, and some margarita that seriously knocked the hangover right out of me - the thing was strong!  the huevos sopes were superb, and resembled your typical eggs benny, but were vary flavourful.  and the guacamole is just spot on, no matter which you get.

love the bicycle and love el vez!  i have been here more than five times in the past three months while in philly on business.  this is not your typical mexican cuisine, it's just plan awesome.  from the el ve burger, oxtail enchiladas and huevos rancheros, it's all good.  especially enjoy the guacamole and grilled corn on the cob.  they also have a very nice selection of drinks, try them all.  highly recommend el vez, y'all won't be disappointed.

great blood orange margaritas and chips & dip. it's a fun environment to be in, there's a lot of color everywhere, and everyone has always had a great time when we have gone.

i enjoy the ambiance and atmosphere that el vez creates. if you are looking for a fun place for a date or to hold a small dinner with friends then this is your place! i tend to stick to appetizers (the macho nachos are great) as the portion sizes for regular dishes are a bit on the small side.

this is a really good mexican in centre city that also delivers which meant i became accustomed to very tasty dinners while i was working late this winter! my go to order was the seabass tacos which were really tasty, the seabass being battered in a light tempura. the tacos were soft and flavoured with lovely guac! i also tried a trio of tacos which came with chicken, beef and sea bass which was actually huge! the guacamole is superb with chips and the mimosas were also delicious when i went there for weekend brunch! i opted for a pulled pork style tortilla special which was so big i didn't make a dent in it! would recommend this place, really filling , good buzz in the place and just does mexican really well!

underwhelmed. i was expecting quite a bit more than what was delivered. i have been to other restaurants in the starr empire and was quite pleased. this one, el vez, did not have anything special in the way of food. it was not bad just mediocre and expensive. the staff keep harassing me to order more good when i made it clear i was not going to order anything more.
also have i missed something in the last five years? are greater decibels correlated to better atmosphere? this restaurant was deafingly loud. my dining companion and i had to shout to hear each other. very unpleasant. this was a tuesday night. i will try el vez again later when i have shaken this bias i have against it at this time.

no food for you. we were visiting philadelphia from out of town and wanted to get a quick dinner on sunday afternoon. there were no tables available and the waiting time was ridiculously long (common it is burrito place).
advise to the front staff. never ever offer a table for a family with a kid and expect them to wait for 1 1/2 hours. it sounds ridiculous. we were cracking jokes about it for the rest of our trip. we ended up going to the chipotle which was two blocks away. on the positive note the gelato place across the street was outstanding.

mmmmmmmmmmmmmmm good!. el vez is now one of my favorite restaurants in the city of brotherly love!!!!!!!!!!!!

i strongly recommend the

indian red lopez: spicy crab, cilantro and salsa roja

cactus and crab salsa: tomato, cilantro and fresh lime juice
salsas are served with fresh corn tortilla chips, salsa verde and salsa roja.

and top it all off with the absolutely fabulous, frozen blood orange margarita gold tequila, triple sec and fresh blood orange puree

this mexican restaurant is by far one of the more laid back starr restaurants on this list, nevertheless it still offers up good food. some things that my friends and i always start out with are the el vez guacamole and one of the salsas, more often than not the cactus and crab salsa. after that, it’s up to you and your preferences as to what mexican dish you want to get, but i know that both the carne asada and the pibil pork tacos are amazing. all of the meat i have had here is tender and i haven’t complained yet. the restaurant gets especially lively on days such as cinco de mayo, which isn’t really my scene, but if margaritas, somberos, and a large crowd are your thing, you may want to check this place out on that date!

must go to when in philly!. really hip and trendy atmosphere! the food was outstanding. i had the taco sample platter, it was very good, i couldn't choose which one i liked the best. my husband had the carne asada, he loved it! we also had the tuna ceviche for an appetizer. it was served with housemade chips but it was so yummy i just wanted to eat it with a spoon. the only thing i didn't enjoy was my margarita. it was too strong for me. i'm from wisconsin and was in philly for business. next time i'm in philly, i will certainly go again!
