wow very impressed!. my son and i had dinner here last night and the food was fantastic! the best mexican i ever had in cincinnati. theirsalsaneeds to be more chunky but the dishes we ordered was very flavorful, came out hot, great presentation, and nice ambience. i got the pollo chipolte and my son got the taco salad. it was very good. i will definitely be going back! oh and the margaritas are humongous! friendly service too. definitely recommend this place!

el jinete is a good option for mexican when i am in a rush as it's close to my commute route.
the people are friendly and is usually not a problem to find parking. the lunch specials are good and doesn't put a debt in your wallet.
the complementary chips andsalsais good, especially the salsa, which is chunky and refreshing.
i tried a few things and have been very happy. i wanted nachos once and it was a disappointment as it seemed that they put chips and melted cheese on it via microwave...i haven't tried it since so it may be an anomaly. that night, i tried the taco salad and it seems that they microwaved it too as the lettuce was warm as if it came out of the microwave as was the taco bowl (it was chewy).
again, my negative experience was one night and i have come back few times since without complaints...but i haven't ordered those items.

service underpar. my boyfriend & i went here (red bank location) to eat this past saturday evening. we were sat right away with menus. the waitress came & got our drink orders. we had to ask for chips &salsa(isn't it standard for most mexican restaurants to place these on your table at the waitress/waiter greeting)? we then were into our chips &salsawhen we realized we had no silverware or napkins (to wipe the chip salt from our hands orsalsaon our lips). why are we having to ask to be served standard things served at a restaurants??? after i waved to the waiter that he was serving our meals to the table across from us we finally got to enjoy our el pastor tacos. these weren't seasoned as we expected & there was way too many onions put in mine. luckily my boyfriend loves onions. finally no one came to see if our order was complete, satisfactory or if we needed anything else (including drinks). well our waitress came to clear my boyfriends finished plate & at that time asked us how everything was. thank goodness we didn't have anything wrong with our order....we would have been waiting forever. i felt the service could have been better.

garbage. i heard this was good from my mother as she and her coworkers frequent it for lunch...wrong. aside from the chips andsalsawhich were fine, the food was slimy and had no flavor. i ordered a vegetarian quesadilla. i am not sure why it was slimy on the inside but i could not eat more than a couple of bites. i went there with my mother for dinner and it appeared as if her food was slimy as well, but she didn't seem to mind so this must be the standard she was used to. i decided to fill up on chips andsalsasince they were edible. i do not recommend unless you are into unauthentic, slimy, bland, "mexican" food.

not bad. i have only been once so far. i had the fish tacos, which are tilapia with a nice bold spice rub on the grilled fish so it is not as flavorless as it is at most places, and it came on corn tortillas (option was that or flour. i always chose corn if asked). they were very simple and came with two topping options - pico, or their hot salsa, which is pretty hot. i only put a littlesalsaon to give it some extra kick, but mostly just used the pico. they were individually wrapped in foil to keep them warm, which was nice, but it will also trap the steam and make them soggy if left too long, as was the case for one of them, but it was not bad enough to not eat it. still good stuff.

the only disappointment i had were the tex-mex sides of rice and beans. the beans were the gray-brown very creamy kind you see at places like chi chis and the rice had the standard frozen neon vegetables cooked in with them. i hate it when places mess up something so delicious as rice and beans, but many do. however, this would not deter me from going back. the menu is very big (though a lot is tex-mex dishes). they often run coupons, so you should be able to find something you like and at a good price. the service is also fantastic. very friendly staff. so it's not in my top 3, but it's not bad, and it's close enough, so i'll be back again.

sodium overdose. i'd put this place in the top tier of mexican restaurants in cincinnati - good atmosphere, great menu variety, good service - except for the fact that from the time we got our chips andsalsaon through the rest of the meal, our tastebuds were assaulted with huge amounts of salt and/or msg. i am not one who usually gets too worked up about this, but these guys take the adobo seasoning overboard. their sister restaurant el picante has a tendency to do the same thing but these guys just kick it up a notch. still feeling it a day later.

one of the best mexican restaurants in cincinnati. first of all el jinete is not in mariemont it is in fairfax. urbanspoon has missed that by over a mile due east.

that said el jinete is a welcome addition to the up and coming fairfax renevation of the red bank road corridor.

the restaurant is as authentic a mexican restaurant as you will find in the trisate area save the small gems like taqueria mercado(fairfield) or la mexicana(newport)

while there are a couple of "tex mex" kind of plates on the menu el jinete is not by far a tex mex establishment. their mole sauce is actually made from scratch at the restaurant and not from a jar, "this was confirmed to me by the host" and is supurb! on the days when the carnitas are made fresh, they are the most suculent and tender carnitas i have ever eaten. the tamales available in both pork and chicken are wonderful whether topped with the fresh tomatillosalsaor the mole'. and the chile rellenos made fresh daily are as good and authentic as any i've ever eaten. (i wish they'd leave the stems on though)

don't hesitate to ask for the hotsalsatoo. its a packed with a pow of awsome guajillo pepper flavor w/o being unbearably picante!

the margaritas are tasty and pack a nice punch as well.

the only dissapointment is that some of the things on the menu are not really as described.. the arrachera which is really a skirt steak is served as a thinly sliced rib eye. it is excelletly prepared and presented but being a mexican food aficionado i was very dissapointed that it was not arrachera. and the hot and spicy burrito is in no way shape or form spicy... its tasty but if you're looking for "spice" ask for some of the hot sauce to go over it.

i have gone to el jinete numerous times and have yet to have a dine in experience short of excellent. the service is always friendly, attentive , prompt and most importatly consistant.

the attention to detail, presentation, cleanliness (the bar tenders even use tongs to put limes on the rims of the margarita glasses instead of dirty hands like 99% of bartenders) and to fresh cooking with all made from scratch ingredients makes el jinete a very uinique and excellent dining choice.
