el jinete mexican restaurant

warning. 2 days after going toeljinete for lunch i found that a 26% gratuity had been applied to my bill without my permission. i went there with a group but we all paid individually. i paid with card and left a tip on the table. i will not be going back!

service underpar. my boyfriend & i went here (red bank location) to eat this past saturday evening. we were sat right away with menus. the waitress came & got our drink orders. we had to ask for chips & salsa (isn't it standard for most mexican restaurants to place these on your table at the waitress/waiter greeting)? we then were into our chips & salsa when we realized we had no silverware or napkins (to wipe the chip salt from our hands or salsa on our lips). why are we having to ask to be served standard things served at a restaurants??? after i waved to the waiter that he was serving our meals to the table across from us we finally got to enjoy ourelpastor tacos. these weren't seasoned as we expected & there was way too many onions put in mine. luckily my boyfriend loves onions. finally no one came to see if our order was complete, satisfactory or if we needed anything else (including drinks). well our waitress came to clear my boyfriends finished plate & at that time asked us how everything was. thank goodness we didn't have anything wrong with our order....we would have been waiting forever. i felt the service could have been better.

worst service. just returned fromeljinete for my birthday dinner .we chose this restaurant because the food is almost always top notch even if the service is sometimes iffy. today, however, we could not get service. we were not there at a busy time. there were people at other tables receiving excellent service, but our waiter was only interested in the tables ordering alcohol. i cannot drink due to a medical issue and should not receive inferior service because of this. i have always tipped generously. our food came, but we only received part of it (our waiter did not bring it). we were out of drinks, out of chips, and dinner was halted for fifteen minutes while we tried to get anyone's attention so we could get these basic items and the rest of the dinner we ordered. when he finally did come back, he was in no way apologetic. we waited another ten minutes after it was clear we were done to receive a check. no deduction whatsoever for the service. we took our bill up to the counter to pay (because he did not come back for it) and he audibly groaned when i came up. what choice do i have at this point? we wanted to leave and were done waiting on him to be ready to take our money. i will miss the food, but i will not be back.

overall we were very happy with the food ateljinete, the service was great, and the price was just right. the menu is very large, so we will definitely be back to sample more in the near future.

awful service. we have been toeljinete five times (three times we were just carry out). as time has gone, so has the service. this past visit, we came to the restaurant to order a take out. as we waited for the food, we order drinks. the $2.00 off daiquiri and it had zero run in it. we asked for a replacement and got a slight update... emphasis on slight. it was more ice and less of everything else. this was the second visit that we received a terrible mixed drink.

as we waited, we got no chips and no dip. once we got the food and were ready to leave, we got the bill and paid. luckily we checked the change we received and realized that the math was way off. what is going on here!??!! the waiter then tried to charge us more for ordering a stiffer drink and then backed off. we got the correct change and then ran out, relived that this experience was over. wow, this was bad... possibly the worst restaurant experience in the last 15 years.

jalapeno's for joby!. having eaten ateljinete eight times since their opening it amazes me how every visit gets better and better...i've been in the business for 27 years and have never known a restaurant that get's through the 'honeymoon' period and actually ramps up the food quality, service and cleanliness likeeljinete!

i've been ealting all through their menu from the pollo toluca, quesadillas (really fresh spinach), burritos, enchiladas and fajitas but no matter what i'm eating i always save room for at least 1 taco al pastor. i've eaten al pastor everywhere andeljinete's is the best!

recently they have gotten me hooked on a non-menu offering-roasted jalapeno's and onions as a side dish...fantastico!

they service is always accomodating, friendly, top-notch and spot on!

and don't worry if you have a large party, i know the store front looks small but after taking over their neighboring spot they now have over 170 seats (i counted) & i can't wait to take a big group of my foodie buds and show them what i 'found'!

overall, i thought theeljinete experience was pretty good. i consider it to be one of the better mexican restaurants in the city and definitely plan on going back. the drinks were the right size and price, service was good and the menu provides variety and affordability. put all that with great company and a nice night and it is tough to fail.

by far my favorite mexican restaurant!!!. the service is always fast and the food is fantastic!!! the enchiladas (or yolandas as they are called here) are my favorite and my husband gets the burritoelbarzon which is a very unique combination of every meat on the menu and grilled pineapples in a burrito and covered with yummy cheese sauce. the servers are very nice and they are very attentive. and the manager is always there and smiling. we used to go toelrancho grande, buteljinete is even better.

tasty and filling. this place has good service, and the food is great. the tortilla chips they bring to the table are fresh and hot, and the fajitas cozumel are amazing--with steak, shrimp, and cheese. it's hard not to order the burritoelbarzon every time, after you've had it once. it's stellar, and it's as big as your head, so there's lunch the next day!

sodium overdose. i'd put this place in the top tier of mexican restaurants in cincinnati - good atmosphere, great menu variety, good service - except for the fact that from the time we got our chips and salsa on through the rest of the meal, our tastebuds were assaulted with huge amounts of salt and/or msg. i am not one who usually gets too worked up about this, but these guys take the adobo seasoning overboard. their sister restaurantelpicante has a tendency to do the same thing but these guys just kick it up a notch. still feeling it a day later.

great food. beef tips burrito is truly awesome. steak fajitas ateljin were tough and chewy...the fajitas at rincon are better.

i love this place. the burrito al barzon is out of this world! this is near my house and we have a serious love affair going on witheljinete. we're there about every couple of weeks.... as a word of warning: the frozen margaritas are seriously the wrong color (blue? really?), but they are tasty and a little on the strong side. win to the win, amigos.

one of the best mexican restaurants in cincinnati. first of alleljinete is not in mariemont it is in fairfax. urbanspoon has missed that by over a mile due east.

the restaurant is as authentic a mexican restaurant as you will find in the trisate area save the small gems like taqueria mercado(fairfield) or la mexicana(newport)

while there are a couple of "tex mex" kind of plates on the menueljinete is not by far a tex mex establishment. their mole sauce is actually made from scratch at the restaurant and not from a jar, "this was confirmed to me by the host" and is supurb! on the days when the carnitas are made fresh, they are the most suculent and tender carnitas i have ever eaten. the tamales available in both pork and chicken are wonderful whether topped with the fresh tomatillo salsa or the mole'. and the chile rellenos made fresh daily are as good and authentic as any i've ever eaten. (i wish they'd leave the stems on though)

don't hesitate to ask for the hot salsa too. its a packed with a pow of awsome guajillo pepper flavor w/o being unbearably picante!

the margaritas are tasty and pack a nice punch as well.

the only dissapointment is that some of the things on the menu are not really as described.. the arrachera which is really a skirt steak is served as a thinly sliced rib eye. it is excelletly prepared and presented but being a mexican food aficionado i was very dissapointed that it was not arrachera. and the hot and spicy burrito is in no way shape or form spicy... its tasty but if you're looking for "spice" ask for some of the hot sauce to go over it.

i have gone toeljinete numerous times and have yet to have a dine in experience short of excellent. the service is always friendly, attentive , prompt and most importatly consistant.
