we are always looking for good food for lunch, dinner, or on late nights.  el compadre is classic and a fun go-to for good eats with three multiple locations throughout los angles.  the sunset boulevard location is a gem of a spot; a short drive or ride from famed retail stores, theaters, hotels, bars, and clubs.

this got good reviews on here so i thought we'd give it a try.

it's a very popular spot - the only table we could get was at the crowded and loud bar so if you want to go here, i'd advise you to make a reservation in advance.

manuel a was our server - very good especially considering the busyness of that evening.

my friend had the enchilada - huge, and delicious.

i had the beef fajita - way too much food but yummy.

the margarita was also lovely.

recommended - but make a reservation first and be hungry!

me and my husband came here our first night while visiting la. the atmosphere was awesome! when i arrived i learned that i made a reservation at the other location and even tho they were extremely busy they sat us in a beautiful booth right away! drinks and food were great. i am vegetarian and i had many options to choose from. servings were huge! we will be back

amazing. top of the line, real mexican food. i'm originally from ny and not one mexican restaurant has even come close to this one. the flavor the chicken had was so natural and sweet. furthermore, the salsa had the perfect amount of spice, mild but mild for real. i truly recommend this location. best mexican food i've ever had. it's an experience for sure.

we were recommended this place by a friend. unsuspecting outside - we walked in and the interior is beautiful, warm and friendly. staff were attentive and helped us with our order. the food is what i imagine would be authentic mexican and the flavours were incredible. absolutely worth a stop in.

excellent service and even better food

if you love mexican food this is the place. we dined here 2 nights because the food was so authentic and delicious. portion sizes are massive and the service is quick and attentive without being rushed, the place always appeared busy and both nights we had to wait for 20 minutes but well worth the wait. the ambiance also makes it with live musicians and a very cool atmosphere. we found the best seating was indoors in the booth areas.

i've eaten here twice. the food was pretty good and the menu decent.
here everything was very good and i love this restaurant lot..great service ..good ambiance..totally very nice.

this is a super fancy dinner place, the food is amazing and the servers are some of the best people around. my water was never empty and all my needs were catered. i 100% recommend going here on a date because its such an amazing experience

delicious food and great presentation. don't come here if you're expecting to have a conversation during your meal. it's pretty loud inside.

great carne asada, but over cooked unless you go with rare. someone said to get tips from el cholo? el cholo is a joke, horrible bland food that is way too overpriced. i can't even believe anyone would call el cholo authentic, unless you mean authentically commercialized to be palatable to caucasian patrons. nope. you want incredibly authentic, go to a taco truck or a hole in the wall place in east la. you want fairly good, with a nice sit down atmosphere comfortable enough for a date or family meal? go here. service at el cholo is awful and takes forever and oh yeah did i mention, over priced?!

this place is a joke! the meat in the albondiagas soup taste like a mystery meat from a can! the sauce from the shrimp plate i ordered was so bland, it taste like canned tomato and water. the worst wanna be mexican spot. nothing is authentic! everything taste like its from a can and super bland, so spice or seasoning. i dont know how you get business, you should get notes from el cholo restaurant down the street or los compadres restaurant in long beach cause your food sucks.
