it's a small littleplacethat's easy to zoom past but if you get a chance to stop.... do. the only real criticism i have is that it was a little too warm. but the food is really good, just spicy enough, the atmosphere is pleasant and their green tapatillo salsa is extremely good. i will be returning.

fittingly for aplacethat translates to “the real way,” el camino real wears its authenticity on its sleeve. while the familiar burritos, enchiladas, and fajitas fill the menu, you will also find lengua (beef tongue), mole, and other less americanized offerings here. a recent cutthroat kitchen episode inspired a fish taco craving, so i decided to give them – and the al pastor (marinated pork) and chorizo – a try. the tacos came well-dressed with radish, cilantro, and lime. of the three varieties sampled, the chorizo was far and away the tastiest: it offered a spicy, crumbly bite throughout. the tilapia in the fish taco was moist and adequately seasoned, but doesn’t reach the standard set by los gordos. the pastor had the right flavor profile (hint of pineapple) but was disappointingly dry.

try the molcajete. this littleplaceis not only "the real way", it is also the real deal (i know it really means "the royal way", but i'm trying to be clever, work with me here.) nice and bright, colorfully decorated with 4 or 5 booths, and maybe 8 tables - no separate bar area, very small outside seating area.

usual suspects on the menu, especially the lunch specials. rice is very nice, grains properly separated; beans are rather soupy, but with good flavor; chips are nice, but the salsa is thin, and a little bland. the authentic soft tacos are very, very nice - frankly much better, and much better plated, than at its "sister" restaurant in the guilford college shopping center. the carnitas and steak tacos were especially nice.

but the real dish is el molcajete - a large dish with beef, pork, chicken, chorizo, roasted green onion, roasted jalapeno peppers, roasted catctus, cheese, and avacado served in a large, hot lava rock bow ( the molcajete)l - the same kind of bowl used to make salsa in mexican homes. this dish will serve 3 or 4 people, and comes with tortillas, beans, rice, and both a red and green sauce. you in effect use these items to make your own tacos, and they are awesome. the price is $21,99, but will feed 3 or 4. this is the single best mexican dish i've every eaten because there are so many tastes and flavors going on here. the 2 sauces are a little on the mild side, but there is some hotter red sauce available, on request.

the service here is excellent and friendly, and the food is quick out of the kitchen. there are a number of reasons to try this little gem, but el molcajete seals the deal - the real deal.

#1placeto eat. my wife and i love el camino. we go once a week...sometimes we can't help but to go a second time. if we go out to eat, this is the onlyplacewe go! the food is authentic, fresh, and just so good! i have never been disappointed and i have been coming here for years. the staff is friendly, prompt, and they know how to make you feel at home. the prices are wonderful. my favorite dish: pastor mexican style tacos (marinated pork and pineapple) or cheese enchiladas. my wife always gets the chicken mexican style tacos and rice. we love el camino and we know you will too!

best mexican food we've found!. my boyfriend and i moved here from raleigh/cary a little over a month ago. we have a foundplacein our heart for a mexican restaurant in cary and had been desperately trying to find something that comes close here in greensboro. we'll we have definitely found it here with el camino - we even think it might be better!

the staff and service was great, everyone was extremely friendly and didn't hover or try and rush us out despite the fact that it was 8pm on a sunday evening. we had the 1.99 lime margaritas - there are great drink specials every night and the margaritas were very good. the chunky guacamole is great - not like the pre-packaged stuff a lot of mexican restaurants serve. the carnitas tacos my boyfriend ordered were served in a more traditional style with radish and cilantro and he raved about them. the rice was great - it actually had veggies in it! i had cheese enchiladas which were pleasantly light but filling. the food didn't leave us feeling heavy afterwards which was a wonderfully pleasant surprise as most mexican restaurants can't boast.

we have definitely found our mexican restaurant in greensboro and suggest it to anyone looking for an authentic inexpensive mexican meal!
