best best best! first tim.... best best best!

first time dining at eightysix last night and completely fell in love. duck bernaise, bag of salmon and fried chicken were all so good, perfectly cooked and beautifully presented. banoffee pie was easily one of the best desserts i've had. we got to sit up at the bar overlooking the kitchen and loved the experience and interaction with the chefs. if you can't stand noise, a loud atmosphere and boisterous staff, it's not theplacefor you, but having experienced all of this with the same guys at ellacure, we loved it. will be back again in the coming weeks!

the food arrived at the table promptly, which was good. it meant we didn’t have to spend much time here. thisplacehas a serious issue with acoustics. it was like being in a club. it wasn’t clear that they had made attempts at noise baffling, so maybe ‘cacophony’ is the ambience they are going for. the food was fine, but it wasn’t worth the prices they are charging. also, we were wedged into a corner next to the fire extinguisher and fire hose (see photo). how can they think this table is ok?

we were in canberra en route to jervis bay for two nights recently and research pointed us to the direction of eightysix for one of our dinners. we were a little early for our table and theplacelooked super busy. we were invited to stand at the bar and order a drink whilst we waited. our wait wasn't long and we were shown to our table before our drinks were ready.

massive fan of this place. hands down probably one of the best places you'll eat in canberra.

took my boyfriend here for his birthday. make sure you make a booking because thisplacealways gets booked out, even on a weekday. the staff are very friendly and the ambiance is warm and inviting. started off with the fried chicken which was tender and moist. this was followed by the cauliflower salad which was amazing. as a main we shared the lamb wagyu. the dessert was the star of the show : the famous banoffie pie everyone raves about but i understand why. the crumb is sweet with a hint of salt, caramel and fresh bananas and cream / topped with salted pretzels. yummm!!! would definitely come here again to try the black chicken.

note: no longer open for lunch - only dinner. here for a saturday night dinner. what a great casual dining experience. the dishes are meant to be shared. the black chicken was great - moist, flavoursome, and 2 large piece of chicken. we were watching other tables and the food that was being served - and there was so many tempting things. hint: do the all you can eat for $80 per person option and  try everything. the staff were welcoming and engaging. no wonder thisplaceis so popular - we will be back to try the entire menu.

the attitude is just not worth it. other restaurants in capital cities will have some of the bar space for walk-ins. sure, book the wholeplaceout, but don't turn your nose up at me when i don't have a booking. customers make restaurants - no people, no income.

despite a rocky start, we left eightysix feeling very happy about both the food and the service. staff are very friendly and eager to please and the food is excellent. we shared the chicken, salmon, cauliflower and heirloom tomatoe salad, all of which were delicious. fantastic flavours and textures abounded across these different dishes. we started with the duck sliders which were extremely good (without chilli sauce for the kids who went back for more). if i could change anything? maybe slightly less noisy but on balance thisplaceticks all the right boxes. when in canberra we'll be back!

i wasn't sure how this dinner was going to go when we were squeezed into a little bench after fronting up with no booking. however being in a little nook meant that we had more privacy to chat and could gaze out at people passing by while we enjoyed the fabulous food. our food was ordered by our waitress which was an excellent option - meant we didn't have to try and decipher the scribing on the walls as they don't actually have menus. but it was also good as we ate dishes we probably wouldn't have chosen ourselves, which we absolutely loved in the end. we ate the duck rolls, fried chicken with chilli sauce, terrine and tartare and then pumpkin ravioli followed by banoffee pie and washed down with riesling and sparkling water. i could not fault any of the savoury food - the flavours were divine. the banoffee pie however was a bit of caramel with fresh banana and lashings of cream... didn't quite stand up to the standards of the savouries. all in all one of the best meals i have eaten in a long while and aplacei can't wait to get back to.

pretentious. a pretentiousplace- blackboard menus half the diners have to leave their seat to read, way too crowded unless you like rubbing elbows with fellow diners or the passing waiters. the food was average. the steak and salad was a chewy if well cooked steak cut into chunk amongst some packet rocket and a few slices of cheese and dollops of basil pesto. the scallops were excellent - both of them. the staff were charming if presumptuous. never again!

urgh. thisplaceirritates me like no other. arrogant is a nice way to describe the owner/manager of this restaurant. you'll recognise him by his filthy mouth and hyperactivity *sniff*. anyone who thinks it's a 'cool'placeare suckers and probably as pretentious as the staff. i love quirky, loud, different and funky places, but there is no way i would go back here and have no issue recommending others avoid it. the mains were average and horribly overpriced, their saving grace was the dessert. admittedly pretty amazing.

best described as an experience rather then simply a meal.

i love everything about thisplaceincluding the swearing manager. if everyone just relaxed a little about it as well i’m sure they’d have a great time. personally i love the music a little louder, and who needs a menu, dinning is made so much easier when the staff can order for you. just kick back, have a glass of red and let them feed you.

i'm yet to have a dish from here i have not liked!

great atmosphere and even better wine list. been here a few times, and always get the best outcome by letting the waiter order for you because the menu changes so often.they always do a great job. sometimes it pays to trust the staff.
