i recently went to tennessee (pigeon forge, specifically) to visit my parents while on vacation. pigeon forge is a very tourist-heavy town, so it was tough to scope out restaurants that got to the real culture of the town instead of tourist traps. but we tried. saturday the old mill creamery  - we went here mostly because we had a long wait for our dinner. but there were a dozen or so options in the form of bowls, cones or shakes. i got a two-scoop cone with a peanut butter moose tracks sort of ice cream and another that i can't remember. but overall, pretty tasty! grade: a the old mill restaurant  - this is where we chose for dinner my first night there. while our wait was incredibly long, once we finally got in, service was quick. a house salad and some corn fritters were rushed to our table. i ordered the meatloaf, with a side of macaroni and cheese, mashed potatoes (which were servedfamilystyle) and a pecan pie. the price was about $20 all inclusive. it comes in a nice set. and it was also pretty tasty. the meatloaf was ground pretty fine, so it was crumbly. but the top had a nice tomato flavor. the corn fritters, mashed potatoes and macaroni and cheese were all good. average-ish. the pecan pie was good. overall, a decent meal. love comfort food, but the wait was so incredibly long. and nothing was totally mind-blowing. grade: b sunday alamo steakhouse  - this is one i wanted to go to because i heard really good reviews. in an act of luck, we ended up going for lunch, so it's a good bit cheaper. i ordered the horseradish-crusted sirloin with a side of mushroom risotto and their potatoes. i ordered it medium, and it was definitely overcooked. i saw no pink. but flavor was on point. the horseradish-parmesan crust wasn't so much a crust as it was melted cheese with just a tiny tang (don't be scared by the horseradish - not potent). mushroom risotto was flavorful, and the fried potatoes were average. overall, though, very good lunch. grade: a monday big daddy's pi

gluten free folks, please read. i have a mixed review. loved the show and atmosphere. myfamilywas very happy with their meals. the one disappointment was with my gluten free meal. i was so excited to see that they offered a gluten free meal! but what they really mean is that you don't get the parts that have gluten. no bread, no soup, no desert. the rest of my meal was also a disappointment. it appeared to have been microwaved. the potatoe was rubbery, the pork as well and the chicken was okay. nothing was seasoned at all. now, i understand that their normal seasoning probably contained gluten, but they could have used a little salt and pepper at least. no gluten free bread , okay, but not even a scoop of ice cream offered for dessert . i was so disappointed and then i thought of all the children with celiac and thought how they must feel watching siblings gobble down dessert in front of them. hopefully they have parents who are prepared. i really do appreciate the effort but i feel that for the price of a ticket, they could do so much better!

first off i attended the christmas show and i will say i enjoyed it an would recommend it to other families. my wife and kids (6 and 8) enjoyed it as well. now i wouldn't call the food "good" though. it's not bad either. it's just there and adequate for this type of dinner show. it's very similar to medieval times, although food was better and show better as well. the christmas show served up cream veg soup, a whole corneish hen, pork loin, half a potato and a apple turnover. one downside was not alcohol but it was afamilyevent. performers were good. music in the pre show was very good. if staying around the tackiness that is pigeon forge you won't be disappointed by this dinner show. it was cheesy good fun for the whole family. don't go expecting "good food". it will be descent, you will eat with your hands and the show will be good cleanfamilyfun. dolly knows how to do a good cheesy western dinner show.

a funfamilynight out. other reviewers have said the food was good, and it was. but you need to be aware it is all finger food. they do not provide you with any silverware. i would have liked a fork to tear the chicken with ... but maybe that's just me.

also, the lighting is dimmed, which makes for a nice theatrical atmosphere, but makes it impossible to see which packet of sugar/sweetner is which ("is this splenda? or equal? let's surprise ourselves!") it also makes it tough to see what you're eating, so if you have allergies, ask the server what s/he is bringing you. i will say that the servers have their jobs down to a science! they are fast.

the entertainment was fun and energetic, but for me, it was a one-time choice. i probably will not return but i also will not dissuade others from going by criticizing this place.
