the deckhouse is situated right on the water at woolwich with stunning city views that spills into the restaurant through the high windows. when we arrived we were greeted by politestaffwho showed us to our seating for our brunch reservation. . the restaurant is spacious and there is ample seating both inside and out to enjoy the beautiful surrounds.

this cafe is beautifully located on the water and has a gorgeous ambience, however you're really paying for the view. we had brunch and the food was fine but nothing special and quite overpriced eg. $4.50 extra for gluten free bread (usually $1-2 extra) and $6.50 for one serve of tea! i also found thestaffto be a mix of overly pretentious and incompetent (bringing dishes but not knowing what they're serving/taking forever to clear plates/bringing tea without milk when we'd ordered it). due to these factors i probably wouldn't go here again.

our good friend decided to have their birthday lunch here, expecting great view accompanied with good food.

wrong... great view yes but good food was a let down. for what you pay for it definitely was not value for money. example was my main, blue swimmer crab and scampi pappadelle with dill, lemon crème sauce it was so bland! there was barely any crab and scampi almost non-existent.

service wasn't the greatest with thestaffpicking up our food without asking if we were done, and bringing out extra cutlery half way through our meal.

in addition to the above for some unknown reason they decided to cut the cake before it even got bought out for the birthday girl. how irritating and unprofessional!

overall experience is not pleasant wouldn't come back. there are a lot more places with gorgeous views and food to match.

how not to manage a walk in. we have eaten here many times. we arrived, at 9.30 on a sunday morning, without a booking to an almost empty restaurant (with harbour views). after being asked by three different waitstaffif we had a booking we were handed over to the maitre d who asked us if we had a booking. we were then ushered to a crowded rear side deck with a view of the marina (without harbour view). we felt that was our punishment for not booking. we ate breakfast. it wasn't bad, but not worth another visit. as we left a couple of tables in the restaurant had been filled but most were still empty as were some of the tables on the front deck. we won't be back for breakfast, we might consider lunch but we will make sure we book and won't be taking the side deck.

had some lunch here a few days ago and was not impressed at all, sure its in a nice spot on the water but it is overpriced for what they are serving.

staff were not attentive had to flag some one down to take my order after waiting for ages and then the same again to bring the bill. the place wasn't even half full
no water refill and no check on the food. was going to get some dessert but thestaffwere too interested in talking to each other or a couple table of what looked like regulars.

won't be going back thats for sure

had breakfast for two this morning. got there at 9:30 with no booking, was about 60% full, probably due to rain. thestaffwere very courteous and friendly. the menu look amazing and all the dishes coming out looked great. we ordered the big breakfast and eggs benedict with 2 coffees ($46), which came out quickly and tasted amazing. the views are amazing, thestaffwere polite, the food was fresh and fast, and the price was right. would definitely recommend this to friends.

freezing morning, had a booking but only outside avail.staffwere accommodating finding us an inside table! food arrived promptly and was nice. a touch on the pricy side for breakfast though. love the deckhouse location, looking forward to booking for a future reception/event.

let down by the food. i'm so disappointed that the food at deckhouse let down our whole experience. we had made a brunch reservation for six but two friends joined us at the last minute. thestaffwere very accommodating and quickly added an extra table to our reserved table to seat the eight of us. waitstaffwere friendly greeting us with a smile as we walked to our table. water was promptly poured into each of our glasses (though i must say some glasses looked less clean than others!). our drink orders were taken, our menu queries answered knowledgeably, and the waiter was very patient while we decided on our orders. all in all, up until this point the experience was fantastic. not to mention we were seated close to the window and had amazing water views. the drinks came out about ten minutes before the food but we didn't mind too much as we slowly sipped on our coffees and juices while happily chatting away until the food arrived. when the food was placed in front of us it looked delicious and the portions were very generous. six of us had ordered either eggs benedict or eggs florentine and all were uniformly presented. it was upon trying to eat the food that things went downhill. the sourdough was way overdone, the eggs were way overdone (hard boiled as opposed to poached!), and the hollandaise was more of a paste than a creamy sauce! trying to get a knife through the toasted sourdough was near impossible. crusts went flying all across the table! a few of us decided to forgo the knife and fork and use hands instead. our teeth did not appreciate the experience! i mean, the toast wasn't burnt it was just rock hard!! the flavours of the food were actually nice (once you managed to take a bite!) but it was nowhere near the quality you would expect to be presented with at a cafe. you could forgive them for overdoing maybe one or two plates, but all six?! as lovely as the atmosphere and views were at deckhouse cafe, i don't think it makes up for the food. if i were to go back (unlikely) i would steer clear of anything with toast and opt for pancakes instead!

the view is what it's about. i have been to the deckhouse a number of times for brunch and/or lunch. on a pleasant day the view is superb, the food and service no so much. like other posters i found that while thestaffwere mostly pleasant they obviously hadn't received much training. the food was nothing to write home about. i repeat, the view is what it's about.
