not worth the hype. i know that most eating establishments have off days so maybe we went in on one of them but i'm just not sold on this place.

the service was good - i believe david himself greeted us at the door.

the food was good but nothing special. i would compare their "supposed-legendary-pot stickers" to the kind you'd get at costco - the only difference is that they pan fry theirs in oil. i've had really good pot stickers and these were not it.

we tried items from their "chefs suggestions" on the menu and we were grossed out by their sesame beef! the meat was rare in the middle (which i know is not bad for beef) but it tasted like old, beef that was thawed on it's expiration date. i guess i didn't know what to expect when i ordered the dish but i wasn't expecting large, chunks of sauteed, hard, chewy meat drenched insauce& sesame seeds over a bed of crunchy rice noodles. call me crazy but i've never had to use a knife when eating chinese food.

we sent it back and they replaced it quickly with walnut shrimp (which was pretty good) but if you ask me, take your money to sampan, the golden phoenix or little world. this place is a bit pricey for the same food you can get anywhere else...

not good. i have worked in the area of this restaurant for number of years and finally tried david's kitchen out for lunch. we got take out and it they brought out our order in about 1 minute (not a good sign). i'm not a huge fan of chinese food but i don't mind it when it is good. i had the kung pao chicken lunch special. the egg drop soup had vegetables that tasted freezer burnt, obviously frozen. it's pretty difficult to screw up fried rice but this just had a weird taste, no egg, and obviously frozen vegetables. th kung pao was awful. chicken was gross, saucewas bland, weak vegetables. the egg roll was not bad it was the only thing i could finish.

not sure how you could call this the best chinese food in slc? so bad i wouldn't give it another chance. i can over look certain things but when the food is bad the rest doesn't matter. the only reason i gave it two stars is because the lady who helped us was very nice.

worst out of nine. i've lived in utah for a few years and been to 9 chinese food restaurants around slc. the food from here was the worst.

first, the good. we enjoyed the soups and the rices were fine. no problems with ordering. sweet and soursaucewas normal (but i've never been to any place that messed up sweet and sour sauce).

now the bad. we ordered 5 different entrees and didn't like a single one. most of the flavors were bland. the battered chicken was too dry and rubbery. reminded me of when i tried to cook severely freeze-dried chicken in a college day's desperation.

i am puzzled why this place was ever recommended to us.

not bad, not that good either. so, six of us traveled from draper, to david's kitchen at 3pm on monday to see if it was truly the best chinese restaurant in slc. we were the only ones there. older lady says they are closed, then younger lady says, no, they are open and seats us. only 4 of us get drinks. two lady's slouching behind cash register, ignoring us. we finally get younger ones attention. she rudely says "wait a minute!" and keeps talking to her friend. later she brings rest of sodas and takes orders. food was ordered as separate combination dinners, but items were brought out separately every few minutes, not as complete meals. fried rice was just ok, but lacked much flavor. egg drop soup was thick and heavy. egg rolls andsaucewere good as well as pot stickers. the rest was sort of generically salty and runny with squares of meat and hard vegetables.

later, when we were all outside, one of us rated it a 7 out of 10. the rest agreed, and decided it wasn't worth going back to. for the price, and if you dont mind driving downtown, pf chang is still the best.

good take out. we really enjoyed our take out from david's kitchen. we normally don't choose chinese food, mainly because i think it can be boring, but our choices from david's kitchen were great. we ordered the potstickers, based on everyone's stellar reviews, the general chu's chicken, and the walnut shrimp. we found all of them to be fabulous. we have only three (small) complaints: 1. the shredded pork in garlicsaucewas too spicy for us and our small kids; however, it's possible the "spicy factor" was marked on the menu and i didn't see it. 2. they didn't offer a lot of vegetable dishes. although they did have vegetarian selections, i couldn't tell if any of them were, like, stir-fried veggies. this brings me to my final complaint: 3. david's kitchen could describe their dishes in more detail on the menu.

some of the best chinese. david's kitchen, while occasionally featuring americanized chinese, is one of the best places to go for chinese food. i recommend starting immediately with and order of potstickers; david's are better than any i've had (and i've had a lot.) i think the reason i am so partial to these potstickers is 1) they are incredibly soft and moist with a perfectly crunchy bottom and 2) thesaucethat goes with them, a combination of chili oil (made with fresh ground chili's) and an in house soysauceinvolving mirin and wine, pairs perfectly with these delicious dumplings. if you are one who prefers the sweeter side of life, there is no question but to go with the walnut shrimp. a plethora of liightly battered tempura shrimp that are coated in a sweet honeysauceand then topped with sugar coated walnuts. there is no going wrong with this dish. my personal favorite, which is not on the menu, is the steamed schezwan tofu. soft steamed tofu triangles in a light and fragrant schezwansaucetossed with plenty of delicious and crisp vegetables. as if delicious chinese food wasn't enough, david's has an added and welcome surprise: and excellent alcoholic drink mixer. david's used to be attached to a bar called gino's, and it was here that henry picked up on many tricks of the trade involved in bartending. as a result, he makes killer alcoholic beverages, one of the best being his bloody mary. definitely not a restaurant to miss.

very good pot stickers, crazy service. while service lacks on the weekends, the food is pretty good. pot stickers are always good here. the serve a tasty, spicy hot and sour soup. the entrees they serve focus more on the savory side of american-chinese food, so you won't find much of the sticky sweetsaucehere. all of the entrees we've tried so far were good, but nothing really stood out. so while it's not the best american-chinese in town, it's a good solid effort.
first time we went, we were scolded by our server the entire night for turning down their famous pot stickers. it was the weirdest thing. in fact, service on both occasions was on the insane side, watching our server sprint around the restaurant while our table was mostly ignored. both occassions were extremely busy saturday nights, but that's no excuse for poor service really. just hire more weekend help. it took forever to get drinks, soup, appetizers, refills, food.. everything really.
also, dinner prices are a touch on the high side, but lunch specials are priced very well. i'm on the fence with this one. i'd rate it a 3 out of 5 if i could.

love the pot stickers.... but that's not all. everything they serve is pretty good. i don't think i've had a single item at this establishment that i didn't enjoy. i really like the hot and sour soup, the beef and green beans and the black pepper beef. and did i mention the pot stickers with the hotsaucemade to order to suit your individual heat tolerance? fantastic!
