i recently visited the #1 voted best
indian cuisine restaurant in az, called curry corner. located in tempe on
apache boulevard and dorsey lane, it was recommended to me by a friend of mine
from boston that visited phoenix with my family before we moved. he described
it as "cozy dining with a professional take on indian cuisine". as i
can now agree with him, the restaurant itself held to the expectation, the
interior was comfortable and easy going, i didn't feel as if i was supposed to
be in formal wear, but the manner in which the food was presented set higher
standards than anticipated.
i had visited the restaurant with one
of my close friends. i had ordered the "chapli kebab" (spicy ground
beef patty) which had an amazing blend of seasonings. the flavor itself had so
many combinations but still held a spicy standard, greatdish. my friend had
ordered "goat karahi" (garlicky tender goat served on a bed of
tomatoes and onions). i personally am not a fan of the strong onion flavor but
my friend had enjoyed the dish so immensely that i think her plate was clean
enough to put right back with the clean dishes!
our waitress was indian, i asked and
she explained she actually lived there for about 30 years before moving here to
work with the family in the restaurant. she held a comforting patience as i
asked about the majority of the menu and was extremely appreciative and nice
for the duration of the visit. the restaurant was full from beginning to end
and i can see why, excellent food with an outstanding history and interesting
customs. i will definitely be going back.
