an excellentmenuand a very well run restaurant. the tuna tartare in particular is fantastic - worth trying even for people who aren't fans of seafood. one of melbourne's best restaurants.

this review is about my overall experience at cumulus inc. i was dining alone and so chose to sit at the bar overlooking into the kitchen. in my opinion, this was the best seat in the house! it was a very organised and professional kitchen, all the chefs were passionate about their cooking and prepared each dish with care. tv chefs always say "taste, taste, taste as you're cooking" - and the chefs at cumulus inc were doing exactly that! the waiters also knew themenuwell. i was recommended to have some half serves to make up my meal. i chose the special of the day for my starter: smoked mackerel on brioche toast, topped with fish roe and pickled onions - beatifully presented and tasted fab, although it was a little too salty for my liking. my 2nd dish was the smoked brisket charcuterie, which came with thinly sliced pickled mooli and a horseradish aioli - the mooli balanced well with the salty brisket and the horseradish gave the dish that extra kick. i then had the ricotta dumplings with pumpkin puree, thinly sliced pumpkin, fried sage, toasted pine nuts and some dried raisins - the sweetness from the raisins and pumpkin, mixed with the slight saltiness from the ricotta and then the after taste of those toasted pine nuts were just amazing! by this point i was pretty full, but when i saw the salted caramel tart with prunes and creme fraiche on the dessertmenui just had to order it. i was not disappointed and i'm so glad i made space for it. the salted caramel was a set panna cotta type jelly consistency and the tart pastry was buttery. the prunes and creme fraiche acted like a buffer to balance out the richness from the tart and everything worked so well together. i also had the no.7 cocktail which was a grapefruit g&t mixed with asperol. extremely happy that i went out of my way to find this place and would recommend it!

located on flinders lane, this bustling, high-ceilinged restaurant – that’s centered around an open kitchen – serves up an on-trend modern australian menu. i first came here with my husband to celebrate our first wedding anniversary. we did the $65pp tasting menu, which seemed like a bargain. probably the weirdest part was that after dish six we were left with an hour wait. with nothing said we were sitting there confused for 60 minutes, wondering if the tastingmenuwas just a bunch of entrees. do we get up and leave? pay the bill and go home? alas the steak eventually arrived and all was right in the world again. given the reviews, i have to say that we had high expectations, and while everything was a solid a, nothing blew our stockings off. reliable is probably the best descriptor.

came here last night for an anniversary. it was my first time and i really enjoyed the entire experience. we went with the setmenuand there was no fault in each dish. everything was fresh and cooked very well, especially the lamb which was so tender and flavourful. the tuna tartare and the mushroom dish were also a couple of favourites.
the service was really friendly and prompt.
thank you for being the perfect place for a date night, will definitely be back again!

my friend and i chose the seasonal setmenuthat is 85 per person which consisted of
-sough dough bread 2pc
-cracker with salmon,
-kingfish in wasabi milk
-ancient grains salad
-lambshoulder
-dessert

some parts of the setmenuwere not as worth (bread) , i was trying to figure out whether it is more worth to just pick individual dishes but since i haven't tried their single dishes i don't have an understanding of their individual portions.
anyways, i loved the gastronomical experience, i'd reccomend for a special occasions. my favorite dishes were the lamb shoulder and the ancient grains salad. i'd be happy to come back again.

have heard many good things about this restaurant so we were keen to try it out! the food lived up to my expectations, it was so delicious. my favourite was the vegetable tart. the pastry was done very well and the cheese gave it extra flavour.

we also ordered all three desserts from theirmenuand the rose panna cotta was the highlight of the night. you get a subtle hint of the rose flavour and it tasted so fresh!

the service was also amazing as well, the lady who served us was very bright and energetic and constantly checked up on us to make sure everything was good. only issue was that we felt a bit pushed for time towards the end due as the table was booked for the next availability slot, but we did take a while deciding what to order so that’s probably why.

my rating: 4.5i used to enjoy visiting cumulus inc, it’s always packed with lively atmosphere. but its been such a long time since i last visited, i wasn’t sure if the quality of food was still the same. but that was all put to rest. food was yummy and i was happy to eat their famous madeleine.🔆location🔆cumulus inc is situated on flinders lane, between spring and exhibition street next to wilson’s car park. the café/restaurant has high ceiling with lots of natural lighting. 🔆service🔆customer service here are very efficient. we were givenmenuand water promptly and 🔆menu/price🔆smoked salmon croque monsieur, $21.00shakshouka – baked eggs with roasted peppers & shanklish, $23.00madeleine (lemon curd), $5.00 eachorange juice, $7.00🔆verdict🔆i thoroughly enjoyed the smoked salmon croquet monsieur. it was made really well. my friends shakshouka was full of flavour.we specifically came here to have their lemon curd madeleine. we ordered three, so we could have 1 each and share the third.

food was very good, coffees also right temperature and well made, really pleased with the experience
the only thing i might suggest is to keep one or two classic brekki choices in themenufor those not fancy to try the latest ideas in the breakfast market.

cumulus inc is a large restaurant with high ceilings and plenty of tables for small or large groups. themenuis designed for coffee, brekkie, lunch or dinner 7 days a week. we were there for dinner which is designed to share. we had oysters, charcuterie, wagyu with beetroot, pork and a seafood (mussels and prawn dish). all dishes were incredibly tasty and nicely presented, but on the small side for their price. they’d run out of house made bread. a huge wine list, as well as cocktails and coffee / tea. our waitress was efficient and good fun.

this is one of melbourne's great food institutions. packed for sunday lunch, we were greeted warmly and seated quickly. friendly service helped us choose from themenuof culinary delights.

soon we were enjoying every morsel of the fried green tomato with spanner crab, tender snapper and famous lamb shoulder. the chefs here make innovative use of ingredients an art form. the combination of flavours and textures was exciting but balanced, making every mouthful a taste sensation. the lamb shoulder is a generous portion, leaving no room for dessert.

professional and attentive service throughout the visit with speedy turnover by the kitchen being appreciated. high ceilings compensated for the crowded floor, as every space is filled with people standing or sitting. casual in style but high quality gastronomic offerings make this a place worth returning.

went to cumulus inc last night without a booking but we managed to get a seat upstairs at the bar overlooking the chefs. the vibe of this place was nice and cosy, dark, casual, and maybe romantic. to be honest themenufor me looked a bit small and nothing really appealed to me so we just went for it and ordered things, and i was definitely surprised. the food was amazing! we started off with the ‘fried green tomato and spanner crab’ which was my favourite, the tomato gives it the slight freshness and the mound of crab on top just was perfect. my friend’s favourite was the ‘beef tartare’ which seemed to be a very popular dish. we also ordered the ‘cauli fioretto, kalettes and aleppo pepper’, the fries, which were both nice.. and the bread which we didn’t end up receiving. the only negative i have is the bathroom is a small unisex room and in there are 3 toilets.. i walked in to a guy peeing in the girls cubicle with the door open.. i don’t think the restaurant can change the toilet situation to have a separate girls and guys bathroom though.

we did the chefsmenuand my pescatarian needs were very well catered for. the fresh bread and butter was perfect, good bread and butter always win me over however, our first three dishes came out immediately after and we did feel a bit rushed throughout the night. the service was attentive and friendly. unfortunately i had rung ahead to see if they could do anything special for my newly engaged friend and was told i could buy her some champagne or a card! really disappointed they couldn’t do anything for my friend to make her feel special that didn’t involve forking out money and yes of course i’ll be buying her a card! the chocolate mousse was also disappointing - too bitter for me and not enough substance to it - just mousse and crumbs.

beautiful venue for a special occasion or date night. we were sat at the bar overlooking the kitchen - was a great experience watching the very hard working chefs, although the seats not terribly comfortable.
the food was sensational - we had the spanner crab, charcuterie selection, caesar salad (wow!!), gnocchi (amazing) and lamb shoulder (yum!). drinks were also fabulous, though a little slow to arrive.
we had two desserts to share not actually currently on themenuand both were delicious.
we will definitely be back.
