top of the line place. very energetic and fun. service was great, ask for jonathan. i had the spaghettini and my wife had the rabbit ravioli and we loved it. the wine list was excellent and the prices were fair. good for foodies and wine snobs. go there, you will not be disappointed. dh

i went here for my birthday in 2010 or 2011! it was really good. as appetizers my mom and i got ricotta gnudi. we wanted zucchini squash blossoms but they were out of those. the ricotta gnudi was very good though. 

i don't remember what my mom got as an entree. i got the short rib pappardelle and it was delicious. we had a waitress that looked like zooey deschanel. it was annoying that the bus boy wanted to bus our table even though we weren't done.

really good food. reservations might be required, visited on a wednesday and the place was packed. san diego knows how good this place is. wood fired pizzas with inventive combinations but they also do the traditional well (lamb bolognese). great service--

food vs money value= high.

this is a really fun spot with funky, eclectic decor and vibe. the service and food are excellent. even on a saturday night without reservations, we were able to get seating for three at a community table within maybe 20 minutes. they have a lovely wine selection and delicious menu. it was hard to decide but we kept it simple this time with the chopped salad and date and bacon pizza. we will be back to try more. the only downside is that it is very noisy and indoor seeing only.

now this restaurant is nothing short of a 5/5! what i had there was nothing like something i have ever tasted before and that’s exactly what i was seeking. we ordered 3 mains. to start with, the squid ink radiatore which was marvelous! black colored pasta with mussels and a chili sauce, it does not only appeal to the taste buds, it goes to the heart!
we also had the mushroom and the margherita pizzas and they were both great! the dough was so good. the mushroom pasta with goat cheese was so special. the waiter added cheese to all our plates and it was a great addition! speaking of the waiter, he was super friendly, helpful, and courteous. great food and service. highly recommended when you’re hanging out in balboa park.

this place was great. the food was perfect. the service was outstanding. we enjoyed from beginning to dessert. the branzino was awesome and the lamb ragu with soft polenta.

this is one of those posts that i have sat on for a while, not sure if i wanted to write. but here i am, six months later with the memory of this meal still clear as day. cucina urbana has always been one of those reliable restaurants with good food and maybe an even better vibe. entertaining out of towners for the weekend? execute easy decision making process, code name cucina urbana. everyone needs go-to restaurants so as to not feel the constant pressure of finding new gems all the time. at least i do.

a carnivorous fever dream, acclaimed executive chef joe magnanelli of cucina urbana (bankers hill) debuts beast feast! for his no holds barred menu, chef magnanelli uses local ingredients and takes a different approach to sustainability by avoiding waste and utilizing the whole animal instead of specific cuts. this quarterly off-menu, whole-animal dinner series begins on july 19th and runs through april of 2017 while exploring various seasonal “beasts” including whole fish, duck, cow, and pig as the star of each two-course, family-style meal.

came here while on vacation and honestly this is the best italian restaurant i have ever been to. we ordered the papardelle pasta with short rib, mushroom, carrot and parmagiano. we also shared a side of truffle parmesan fries (the best kind of fries imo). that pasta was on a whole new level - cooked to perfection, and the short rib so tender and flavorful. the red wine in the sauce was a highlight for me, and the parmesan and mushroom really nailed it home. the fries were also the best parmesan truffle fries i have ever had - you could actually taste the truffle quite strongly. 

for dessert, we got the chocolate budino. omg. everything went so well together - the bitterness of the chocolate with the lightness of the cream, plus that almond brittle was perfect. i can't fault this place at all. i really hope that i get to come back here someday.

i just don't get why there is so much hype about this place. the food was good but not outstanding. the service was really awful, hence the 1 star review. i won't be back.
