kevin sosebee rocks!. we were in san diego and ate there two nights in a row...recognizing it belatedly as the old, upscale, laurel. shed of all the formality, wonderful warehouse feel with overhead artsy decorations of old spoons and colanders (you get the picture).
night #1: vasi: (mini mason jars with tuscan toast) probably a thinly veiled attempt to charge for bread since none other is available, but who cares? smoked trout and baby golden beet. antipasti: the "must do" stuffed fried squash blossoms with herb ricotta, purple basil pesto and cured lemon dressing. insalate: little gem lettuce caesar salad with polenta crouton. and main coursd: pan seared atlantic cod with a basil pistachio crust, smoked tomato conserva and limoncello beurre blanc....hungry yet?
night 2: sweet corn risotto with guanciale and cilantro, chopped house salad with soppresata and whole roasted brook trout with shrimp and heirloom tomatol
we split everything. loved it, loved the noise and the hubub. the people who say it is too noisy are right....but perhaps they neglected to eat the food which is marvelous. two thumbs up! (and kevin is a wonderful waiter)
