looks can be deceiving. my sister and i randomly chose to grab breakfast here on sunday morning as we expored the area. there were diners inside and out - usually a good indication of the quality, or at least popularity of a cafe. we both ordered basic menu items: bacon and poached eggs. we noted plates coming out to other diners with bacon piled high and were impressed with the meal sizes. one by one the tables around us were served thier meals. after 25 minutes we inquired as to where our meal were at. our school boy waiter checked and advised us that our order had been missed, and offered a weak apology. ten more minutes and around 12 plates later, our breakfast had not arrived. i asked for the manager and was told that the chef was in charge. we were then told our meals were not their priority, the other diners were, whose meals were already been started. i questioned how hard it would have been to take some bacon off the hotplate and poach a couple of eggs. there was no response. suffice to say we requested a refund for our meals andcoffeeand left quick smart. the lack of front of house management and the poor customer service was very disappointing.

3.4 out of 5.

we fancied acoffeeafter a bunnings trip. accordingly, we stopped for a spell at this clean and homely cafe situated on a corner just across from the beach. the location explains the name. it’s a spacious cafe with three different seating areas including a large outdoor area at the front. the pre prepared foccacias and snacks here looked good. the meals coming out looked pretty good as well.

the coffees were nice albeit served in fairly small cups. service was certainly pleasant if a little languid as thecoffeetook some time to come out. no matter. zen is the order of the day.

i’d happily return here at some yet to be determined stage.

not a great experience ,coffeenot good, the girl doesn't know the difference between a flat white and a latte. ordered a large flat white , could hardly taste thecoffeeand was basically a cup of warm milk . went back for a second chance coffee, giving some feedback, argued with me and lots of eye rolling, won't be going back.

something not going right in the kitchen. we have been here some time back and it was great. this time the feeling was that something is not right in the kitchen. we ordered two mains. for the asking price they should have been much better quality. the lamb souvlaki was a generous size serve but the menu completely neglected to mention it had a very decent kick of chilli in whatever the meat was marinated in. the spice mix that had been applied to the meat or marinade was too heavy handed. i was sharing with a four year old who had a very unpleasant shock on putting a piece of meat in her mouth. i was surprised nobody warned us as i've never come across such a spicy souvlaki before. the first staff member i asked said the menu noted that the meal came with a cucumber salsa which was why it was hot. but that really did not make sense. there was no salsa on the plate, only salad. the meat did not have salsa on it and in addition was chewy. the salad dressing was also heavy handed and tasted like a commercial bottle dressing to me.
the other main was an asian style smoked salmon salad. the serving size was good but the salad had a huge amount of bean shoots and the dressing was very average. it tasted a bit like a combination of sweet chilli and oyster sauce.
we asked for the staff to take the souvlaki back to the kitchen and our money was refunded without further discussion even though we had not requested it.
thecoffeewas good and the service was pleasant and prompt enough. the general feel of the place is nice. the selection of pre-made foccacias and other snacks in the display cabinet looked like a safer bet than the expensive mains.

mini day trip to mornington peninsula part 2: portsea beach & blue mini cafe after my breakfast at a mini kitchen , i continued to driving along the mornington peninsula before stopping at portsea beach to enjoy the sun before i became scorching hot. after lazing around on the beach and catching up on my reading, i got up to leave for my next destination. using the mornington peninsula farmgate guide that i found in an old issue of epicure, i decided to stop by blue mini café. blue mini café address:  1445 point nepean rd, rosebud phone:  03 5982 1455 website:   http://www.blueminicafe.com.au twitter:  n/a facebook:   https://www.facebook.com/blueminicafe instagram:  n/a upon stepping into the cafe, i found that it was a rather cozy looking cafe with a few people sitting at their table completely engrossed in their book / laptop and a cup ofcoffeebeside them. there’s a two displays of cakes and pre made sandwiches/salads and a counter for you to order your food. in one of the display

food looked good but not many vegan options. i went to bmc for lunch today because it was listed as vegan friendly. the guy i asked about vegan options was very nice but when i looked at the menu i could only really have a bunch of sides, like mushrooms, baked beans, etc. unfortunately the country life bread they use has egg, so i ended up just having some sides. also the soy milk they use is the non-vegan vitasoy calci-plus so i couldn't getcoffeeeither.

return customer. i have been to bmc many times for breakfasts, it's always a winner in my opinion and i have always experienced great food and service here. berry french toast is my fav and they also do a a good eggs benedict. i don't understand the previous comments about high prices when the serving sizes are generous and the bread used is quality.coffeeis not the best i've had, but it is made correctly and served promptly. staff are always friendly and accommodating here

most overpriced cafe for poor quality, sour service and lousycoffeeon the peninsula. ate a full veg brekkie here 3 years ago i was in heaven - grilled asparagus and layered potato sour cream. now? hash brown, no asparagus and still $23. gluten free toast pay an extra $4. when i asked about this i was told it costs more to ship quality food from melbourne. there are good peninsula artisan bakeries. total rip-off and they don't deserve the business but sadly few choices in rosebud.

third time i have written this and it keeps getting taken down. interesting. i went there yesterday for a quick bite of lunch because we had previously, this year, had a couple of nice breakfasts there. i had a veg tart and my partner had the salmon tart. they came out quickly and it showed because the pastry was soggy (microwaved only) and it was around 1.30 mid week so they weren't busy and could have given them some oven time. my partner was feeling unwell all day so i'm not sure if the salmon tart had been there a bit too long or it was because during our lunch a young waitress brandishing a white bucket marked "toilet clean" with a smiley face on it, and carrying it waist high and close to our table walked by to the toilet door. then she proceeded to prop it open (we were sitting close but it wasn't an issue until the door was open and we could see the toilets!) and cleaned them. the stench of cleaning fluid ruined any palate for thecoffeeand food as well as the visual affect. not cool. staff training guys! these things don't need to be done so obviously and not during lunch hour, surely? some places are so focussed on their processes they forget about the customer experience. customers are their bread and butter - disappointed.
