coalhouse pizza is tremendously over-rated.. we have been tocoalhousea number of times.
we will not be going back - ever.
mother's dat brunch was an absolute disaster.
poor service.
cold food.
the manager was 'too busy' to speak with us.
they have lost their ability to manage popularity.

both sets of toppings were so damn good.  they were so good, we still can’t decide which one we liked more.  the flavor combinations were so comforting and fresh.  there were layers upon layers of flavor through every single bite.  this pizza is, for sure, unforgettable .  these were combinations on a pizza that i had never had before.  i don’t even know where to start. my wife holds off from eating crust because that’s how she maintains her incredible fisique, but me? when we visited coalhouse? well… i went for it.  all. let’s make it easy and start with  shake your moneymaker !  this has cherry stone clams, pesto, garlic, bacon, scallions, mozzarella, and parmesan.  i was uber skeptical of this pizza because of the chance that there’ll be some grit that came along with the clams.  if you’re skeptical, don’t be!  it was perfect.  the clams were so fresh, the pesto was a beautiful bright green and the garlic and bacon paired perfectly with the scallions and mozzarella.   imagine it like this:   on your first bite, you get the perfect combination of pesto and mozzarella – stringy, creamy goodness with a bright and fresh garlic-y pesto.  on top of that, you’ve got bacon to add a smokey layer… and then something greets you while you’re ten seconds in:  the fresh clams and clam juice/flavor nicely distributed through the pizza.  another thing i was skeptical about:  clams and mozzarella?  i mean, i’m all about clams casino, but i was really worried about this. nothing to be worried about! you’ve got two kinds of pizza joints.  the classic pizza joint that bring you classic flavors, lol di fara pizza.  then you’ve gotcoalhousethat hits it out of the park just as hard as di fara pizza… but they do it in a different way.  it was delicious.  if i could, i would order this as often as i could.  but the unforgettable topping combo was equally as good. unforgettable is the alla vodka pizza you wish you knew about sooner.   vodka sauce, pecorino romano, bacon, pepper and basi

food is good but the service needs work. we went in on a saturday night around 9:00pm, only because we were travelling through and didn't know the area. we sawcoalhouseand assumed it was a coal fired oven cooking pizza. we ordered calamari, the roasted meatballs and the sidewinder pizza. i enjoyed the meatballs most, they were tender and the marinara sauce was good. the pizza and the calamari were good, but i wouldn't say the best i have ever had. service is definitely a problem, slow to start and follow up through out dinner was virtually non-existent. i had to get up numerous times to reorder a drink, ask for more napkins or a glass of water. there were numerous servers and bussers, but only two table of two in our section. if i am ever in stamford again i would likely try one of the other wood oven pizza joints.

while the flavors were a lot of fun, i would love to seecoalhouseimprove on a couple of small details. i found the wings to be a bit on the dry side. and the pizza dough was a bit too tough and chewy (i noticed it even more – when i tried eating pizza leftovers the next day).

if you’d love to try out tons of beer from different breweries across the country, thencoalhouseis another great place to be this january. gerard has arranged for eight different flight nights where you can sample beer from a different brewery each night.

great pizza/beer. awful service.. my friends and i were so excited when we found this place. so many beers, $5 flights, and great pizza. trivia on wednesday nights was fun too. but then we started going more often. the first couple times we shrugged off the horrific service. but sometime during the summer, the prices went up twice (no more $5 flights, and wine is ridiculously expensive for this type of place), and the service plummeted. people can only take so much waiting - especially when the place only has one other table! when we had to clear our own table because it was looking like the town recycling center, and when i had to physically bring our bill to one of the half-dozen staffers milling together behind the bar, enough was enough. what started as a weekend event is now take-out once a month. i truly hope they get their act back together, improve their service tenfold, and drop their flight prices. i used to leavecoalhousefeeling like this was the best new discovery in the world; lately i've just left feeling duped. i'd really love to have that original place back again...

fabulous pizza and party. we had a birthday party for my eight-year-old daughter there and it was fabulous! gerard, the owner and a former teacher, walked the kids through the whole pizza making operation and they had a blast. the place was immaculate and the pizza was fresh and delicious. the staff was lovely.coalhousepizza is a terrific restaurant and a spectacular birthday party venue.

uneven food quality - what gives?. first time we went tocoalhousepizza, we were amazed -- fresh, nicely prepared salad not drowned in dressing, really great tasting pepperoni on the excellent thin crust pizza, friendly service and a fun atmosphere. it' hasn't been as good since -- but the weird thing is that how the dishes are prepared seems to vary. great one time and lackluster the next.

each time we've been back, it's been a little different. sometimes the pizza crust is too thick. the flavored mac n cheese has been amazingly delicious several times (more like a slippery, high quality melted cheese sauce on al dente macaroni) when we have ordered the flavored kinds (with mushrooms or broc raab, for example) - but we got the plan mac n cheese once and it was a whole different ball game - more like cheese with flour added to it and really awful.

the salads have fancy descriptions but they arent necessarily prepared as they are written up - don't believe it if you see "roasted grapes " --it's a tasty salad but i have yet to see roasted grapes in that salad.

sometimes they are nicely dressed with restraint and sometimes there is too much dressing on them.

they have a chicken scarpariello dish that one time was amazing -- the next time it didn't look like the same dish and wasn't even close.

the most recent disappointment was a pasta with "marinara" sauce and basil. the pasta was called spaghetti but it looked like chef boyardee - the pasta so thick and unevenly textured -- i even got an egg shell in it.. the "marinara" sauce (they just call it a tomato sauce but the waiter said it was a marinara) looked like it was really vodka sauce or had vodka sauce mixed in -- it was not a clear marinara. but had milk or cream added to it.

unusual can be great, but none of this added up to a great tasting dish, unfortunately. i would not recommend this dish at all -- unless on a different night somebody else is cooking and it's completely different.

this is a fun place and the people are very nice, so i'm hoping somebody can tell me what gives. is there a trick to getting the best food or should i just enjoy the atmosphere and forget the food? time of day, day of week - are they the key?

definitely like the people, the place, and think the food is worth trying -- but i am going to revise what i've told foodie friends about this restaurant or they will think i am nuts if they go and have the downside of the uneven experience we have had there.

long livecoalhousepizza -- please pay attention to what's going on in your kitchen!

coalhouse pizza is a pizza and brew restaurant located in the bull's head strip mall in stamford. the beer selection, both bottled and on tap, is impressive. the pizza - i wasn't impressed, especially after hearing rave reviews from other patrons. the pies i ordered were the sidewinder and the unforgettable. my favorite of the two was the latter. sidewinder small: $12.75/large: $17.75 fresh tomato sauce, mozzarella, fresh basil, garlic, sautéed broccoli rabe, cherry peppers, hot oil, house-madecoalhouses

best in town!. loved it!!!! i thought the decor was orginal and the music was great! but, the food was the best part. pizza, if you love fresh ingredients and a coal fired crust you will really enjoy this place. i have eaten there about 4 or 5 times, different times, different days. it is super busy on a friday or saturday, the wait can be long but the staff is really friendly and the people in line unique. the basic dishes, mac and cheese, brocoli rabe, salads are freshly made and superior to anything else you will find in stamford. the pizza's had great crisp crust and the toppings were varied and if you ask they will make you a pizza with toppings of your choice.

the owner, a tall red haired guy couldn't have been nicer to us, came over and chatted and made sure we had everything we needed. he also asked for our opinion on potential menu additions.

i can't tell you how happy i am to see this in stamford, we didn't need another pizza place, what we needed wascoalhousepizza!!!!

best in town .... been tocoalhousea few times with my friends and family and i have to say that there is no place like this in stamford or beyond. the staff is super friendly, the pizza rivals pepes easily, and the wings are the best i have ever tasted. i get to hear dave mathews and joe bonomasa, springsteen and u2, drink an amazing selection of beer -- easily the best in stamford by far -- and get treated well. my kids make pizzas at the counter! the owner is a great guy, always there, always available, and it is easy to see that he enjoys it all. i recommend this place without hesitation.

i'll never go back agian. it felt like being in the twighlight zone. this was my second time there atcoalhousepizza. and i cant believe that both times was a nightmare. the pizza( if thats what you call it) was very thin and burnt all around the crust. i dont think the owner of that establishment knows what he or she is doing. to top it all off, the service was as sloppy and unorganized. i ordered a beer 3 times, and when i asked my waitress the 4th time she told me she was busy. i will never go back agian. it should be called slophouse pizza
