char restaurant

wonderful!. i was taken to char on my birthday tuesday and had a great experience! starting with a top shelf margarita and fried crab claws leading to the original cowboy ribeye (cooked perfectly) and chicken piccata. our waitress was on top of everything from start to finish, ending with a surprise dessert (pecan caramel butter crunch) from our server! excellent service and superb food! truly one of my favorite spots in jackson.

my experience at char was incredible!! the atmosphere is great, the food was great and the service was even better! i had the pecan encrusted fish which was out of this world!! my server was very personable and friendly and had a very genuine concern that my experience was great! always ask for krysta! one of the best servers i've ever had!

love this place! great service, great food, on more than one occasion! let stephanie and her staff blow your mind with their unique menu and service!

good steak ... thats's all. started off with the wedge salad. it had good flavor until i got to the bitter core of the lettuce. they need to remove the core. the steak, a rib eye was very tender, but a little over cooked. the side which was asparagus and mushroom au gratin had a lot to be desired. it was small ... maybe a 1/4 cup and was basically asparagus (all stem) a few mushrooms and shredded cheese on top and heated in the oven. go for the steak, but avoid everything else.

great brunch. i went to char for the first time for brunch recently and the chicken and waffle dish was great! i'd definitely come back again for more brunch options.

won't ever go back. slow service, rude staff and mediocre food

hands down the best crab cakes i have ever tried- i especially love how the side greens are seasoned to compliment the dish.. but my favorite part is the dessert! the butter crunch cake and pecan pie are absolute heaven; when i dine with my husband we usually get both and split them because a visit to char would be incomplete without them. the staff is polite and teamwork seems to play a key role in their success.

i had the best salmon i have ever had tonight, and i have had salmon in many places! all was very good!

good, not great. many people swear by char...i did enjoy my meal. the ribeye i hadn't wasn't the best i've had for the price, but tasted okay. loved the onion rings though.

will definitely go back but will probably try another menu item.

terrible, slow service. waited an hour and a half for entrees and when the steak came out it was rare, not medium. the waiter caught an attitude. we definitely don't mind spending money on a nice meal, but this was not worth the price.

this place is awesome. if you're going for lunch, go early or be prepared to wait.

never can get into it.. last night was my third or fourth time going to char. i'll provide a pretty brief rundown of the evening.

i was there to meet a friend and her mother, who ordered the grilled chicken and the ribeye respectively, as well as an appetizer (the spinach crisp) and a cup of the black bean chilli. i ordered the black and bleu salad.

the black bean chilli was good but over salted. my salad was over dressed and the accoutrement of cheese and walnuts had settled down at the bottom of my plate. i had a disappointing amount of steak on top. my company's meals fared better as the chicken was very good and the steak was great.

which is the overall problem i have with char.

i've had their strip, ribeye, and filet. all incredibly good. char does steak well. it's everything else that i find lacking and keeps me from taking the restaurant "seriously".

like my friend, i'd bring my mother (or father) to char, but if i'm aiming to impress, or treating myself, i'll get dinner, and maybe even steak, some where else.
