this quaint little restaurant has the freshest, organic, gourmet mexican food i’ve ever tasted in the u.s.. casamayais centrally located in historic st. augustine, fl about a block off st. george street on 17 hypolita street. if the weather is nice, sit outside. they have several vegetarian options, plus a few others, when asked, can be made vegetarian.

a must try in st augustine!. i've eaten at casamayaseveral times now and each time it gets better and better! it's not your traditional mexican with chimichanga's, burritos, and taco's, but an authentic change of pace from the yucatan region of mexico with some very tasty dishes. to say what's good would take too long since everything is good, but i can tell you the mayan soup and the carne asada (skirt steak) are great! just when i thought their dinner was fabulolus i went there for breakfast and it was even better! if you are in the old town of st. augustine and want to have a great dining experience, try casa maya...you can't go wrong!

1st time great... 2nd time not!. i had been to casamayabefore and had a wonderful experience, and great food.
year later, they must be under different management. we were seated right away shockingly on a very busy night in town. it was clear once we sat down 2 separate tables were not happy with the service. we were sat outside where there are heaters... but we soon found out they had no propane for any of them. an hour wait later with only drinks from the bar (brought by the bus boy, not our waiter) and no water, we realized the heater across the patio was on heating no one. we asked to move to that table, had 5 minutes of heat... that heater went out. clearly the place was very short staffed and the management is not what it needs to be. when your staff members talk poorly about the management to the customers... it's a bad situation. food was good but i probably won't be going back unless things shape up.

comments. wonderful opportunity to dine at casamayaon monday, jan. 20, 2014. we were warned ahead of time by the staff that the wait would be long, the three of us decided to wait because of all the good recommendations, and we all were happy that we waited, because the food was outstanding, service great, and we would all return to have another fabulous meal. thank you casa maya!!!

my husband and i recently stumbled upon casamayaon a recent trip to st. augustine. i did an urbanspoon search and since the restaurant had a good rating we figured we would try it. what a wonderful place. we started with a drink and some conversation at the downstairs bar with the owner's son who was so delightful. the service and food was amazing. we had a fantastic dinner and drinks.

we would definitely go again!

little house, big flavor. as locals, we are always looking for downtown restaurants that not only please us, but also the many friends from out of town who come to visit. we found the casamayabecause my daughter is a vegetarian and there are not many restaurants in the historic district that offer many selections (the excellent floridian was closed that week). so we opted for the casamayaafter looking at the menu posted outside and i'm glad we did. this family-staffed restaurant serves up wonderfully delicious south american food at an equally wonderful price. the staff is unpretentious and the atmosphere is cozy: think dining in someone's home. unfortunately, our first visit was on a very busy night and one of our orders (we were a party of 9) was incomplete. however, subsequent visits were problem-free. if you are looking for reasonably priced authentic south american cuisine in a comfortable and cozy environment, the casamayawill deliver on all counts.

chips and guacamole are a little pricey at $8 but i would have to agree with them that they have the best guacamole in town. i had the fish tacos with chipotle mayo. the pico was very fresh and the fish, grouper, was perfectly grilled and nicely sized. the wife had the pepito sandwich which is flank steak, a black bean spread, tomato, and avocado. the steak was extremely flavorful but a little chewy which can happen if not cut properly. upon further inspection, they cut the meat more for presentation than tenderness. never the less, it was great. they also had a habanero hot sauce that was a real sleeper. just a bit will do it but as my meal went on, the more i laid on. if you like heat, give it a try. all in all, casamayawas a great meal.

i'll start with this... i ate there 4 times in 3 days. enough said?! i'm a native floridian and see my share of bad food in touristy towns... i just happened upon this little restaurant as it was near my hotel. i travel quite a bit and eat out just as much. i love flavor (why else eat?), appreciate good service, eat organic, often eat vegetarian meals and want someone to want to prepare my food with care. at casamaya- i was able to have all of this and more! everything from the oj, to the tomatillo sauce, salsa, spices, corn tortillas, hot habenero sauce and seafood was fresh, fresh, fresh! i've heard the owners came from mexico to start this business... thus authentic mexican flavor (not your typical $.99 taco joint, thank god!). mad props to energetic jennifer and david - my friendly servers who greeted me, the solo traveler, with a smile everytime i walked through the door. you can tell these folks are family. i work in the jacksonville area on occassion and would make special effort to return to casamayafor good food and friends, along with a sunset over the old city of st augustine (best view walkiing over bridge of lions or at porpoise point - vilano bch)! parking lot across the street and only two blocks from water.

amazing food, awful service!. i have been to casamayamultiple times and have never had any complaints. food is always fantastic and service has always been good up until this last time that myself and 5 others went for lunch. first, we waited what seemed like hours for them to take our drink order. then after we waited for another long period of time, it took more time for them to take our food orders and it was not even busy. then, my friend ordered a pork sandwich that came with avocado's which is fine, except for the fact that he is allergic to avocado's and the description of what he ordered did not say that avocado's were in there, so my friend politely asked our server if he could get a sandwich minus the avocado due to his allergic reaction and our server was completely indifferent about it and coped an attitude. throughout our visit at the casamayatoday, our server seemed completely agitated and not very helpful. then, at the end when it came time to pay, our server never asked if we wanted the whole check together or separate, so he brought 6 people 1 huge bill, that needed to be separated, then he became aggravated about splitting the bill and stated he could not remember who had what and shrugged his shoulders at the group. the service was so bad, that we are debating going back even though the food really is good!. its ashame about the bad service and that it was our friend's first time there, and i recommended this place..

good food, but a little pricy.. we enjoyed our dinner at casa maya. it is right off the main drag of st. george, and simple to find. they have about 4 tables outside and about another 10 inside. when they fill up expect to wait for tables and servers attention. we passed the time sipping on 2 of the hibiscus sangria's ($24 for carafe that serves 4). we are vegetarian and found enough items to order off of the menu, and were happy to learn that the soups were made with veg stock. if you eat meat and fish i think you will be a happy camper here as the most interesting menu items featured fish.

we did order a delicious salad that had tempeh as one of the options. the veggie empanadas were probably the highlight of the meal along with a cup of black-bean soup. we also tried the guacamole which other reviewers have raved about but found it to be pretty normal, if you are from the southwest or california you will not be that impressed. for dessert we had a slice of keylime-mango pie, it was a small piece but tasty.

overall it was a good meal, and a nice atmosphere, and as a vegetarian a good find. it seems like most of florida is eating their way through the little marinelife that is left in the adjacent oceans.

my only reservation about this place was the cost, our meal above (we shared all items, and had two glasses of the sangria @$7 each, not the carafe) came out to about $66 with a 15% tip. a little pricey for a shared veggie meal for two even when you subtract the $14 for 2 drinks. but if your budget is not a concern or you want to splurge on a good night out with your friends or sweetie, then casamayaand the friendly staff is a good choice.

cash & credit accepted, for you tequila lovers, no hard alcohol served.
