a must try in st augustine!. i've eaten at casa maya several times now and each time it gets better and better! it's not your traditional mexican with chimichanga's, burritos, and taco's, but an authentic change of pace from the yucatan region of mexico with some very tasty dishes. to say what's good would take too long since everything is good, but i can tell you the mayan soup and the carne asada (skirt steak) are great! just when i thought their dinner was fabulolus i went there for breakfast and it was even better! if you are in the old town of st.augustineand want to have a great dining experience, try casa maya...you can't go wrong!

food was expensive and so were the drinks. neither were very good. the bartender spent most of his time ignoring us, which is probably for the better, because he was rude when he actually had to talk to people.
in short, there are too many great places to eat and drink in st.augustineto waist your time here. you should go somewhere else.

serendipity. just walking down the street and victor came out from the court yard to speak to us. he convinced us to give authentic (old school) mexican food a try. the staff is genuine and really cares about your experience. the food...very very good, a good value. we ate in the court yard, but the restored interior rooms were beautiful.
the sangria'? it looked beautiful and tasted great; fresh and not too sweet. unfortunately, it lacked alcohol in it and was a bit pricey. we didn't mind because at no point were we treated like tourist, which we are very sensitive too. we live in st.augustineand would definitely bring the whole family back.

what a pleasant surprise! my wife and i were floored with the quality of the food at casa maya. we couldn't get a seat at out favorite french restaurant in town and started up the street. we had passed by this restaurant before figuring it to be another 'bad' mexican restaurant. but two couples out front waiting for a seat convinced us to give it a try. wow! what a great tip. i had the hangar steak with kind of a green chili sauce. grilled to perfection which is actually hard to do because of the thinness of a hangar steak. my wife had a chicken dish she raved about it. salads were fresh and vibrant. the guacamole was as good as my new mexican grandmother's. i was pleasingly shocked! there are only several restaurants we go to in saintaugustineand this is now on our 'must' list. service was a bit slow, i admit, but the owner made his rounds and attended to our request immediately. it is a college town after all and i've noticed a low retention rate at many restaurants in saint augustine... it goes with the territory i suppose.

"welcome. will you sit inside or out" marco barrera, owner of casa maya, greeted my friend & me and pointed us to a table for two in the tiny, shaded courtyard. between his accent (he's from the yucatan area of mexico) and the creative menus we perused, we knew dinner at this staugustinerestaurant would be authentic. veggie empanadas appetizer ($10.95) sounded like a good place to start. next, i was hooked on the fish special- mahi with a mango sauce and rice & vegetables ($18 ish). my eats-on-the-safe-side friend decided to try a tostada topped with ropa vieja, the name escapes me ($8 ish). the sky darkened as we waited for dinner and a pleasant breeze blew down hypolita street from the bay. white lights peeked out from the jasmine covered archway leading to the street and the strum of the accoustic guitar from spy global cuisine next door combined for fabulous ambiance. it was a perfect night to dine outdoors in st. augustine! dinner was served in perfect time. the mayan soup's fre

i'll start with this... i ate there 4 times in 3 days. enough said?! i'm a native floridian and see my share of bad food in touristy towns... i just happened upon this little restaurant as it was near my hotel. i travel quite a bit and eat out just as much. i love flavor (why else eat?), appreciate good service, eat organic, often eat vegetarian meals and want someone to want to prepare my food with care. at casa maya - i was able to have all of this and more! everything from the oj, to the tomatillo sauce, salsa, spices, corn tortillas, hot habenero sauce and seafood was fresh, fresh, fresh! i've heard the owners came from mexico to start this business... thus authentic mexican flavor (not your typical $.99 taco joint, thank god!). mad props to energetic jennifer and david - my friendly servers who greeted me, the solo traveler, with a smile everytime i walked through the door. you can tell these folks are family. i work in the jacksonville area on occassion and would make special effort to return to casa maya for good food and friends, along with a sunset over the old city of staugustine(best view walkiing over bridge of lions or at porpoise point - vilano bch)! parking lot across the street and only two blocks from water.

whole family loved this place!!. we stop in staugustineone a year while traveling south and happened upon this restaurant by accident. the food was delicious! we loved it! i have never had such sangria - made with organic fruit and good organic wine - it was great. while not a cheap meal, it was worth every cent! yum. we will be sure to stop there on our upcoming trip to florida.
