we sat down immediately in the bar section and the ac was blowing directly at us so we were freezing after asking the server to change the ac it went off for about 5 minutes then came right back on. my boyfriend and iorderedbourbon barrel ales (one of 3 draft selections) which came out a little colder than room temperature. weorderedappetizers and they took so long that our 2 hour wait table was ready and the server even said "stupid kitchen". we got seated outside which was a beautiful view we told our waitress our order immediately so that it wouldn't take forever again. the food took forever and it all came out cold. iorderedthe lobster and shrimp mac and cheese took two bites of it and had the server box it up because i was just going to take it home to heat it up because it was so cold. the manager came by our table we told him the problems and he neglected to fix anything and get it back out. needless to say we spent about $200.00 and left still hungry. won't be going back.

awful experience!!. yes it was memorial day weekend and busy and we sat in the bar. our waitress came to the table did not clear it off. left the other peoples drinks, dirty napkins, and silver ware on the table. weordereddrinks. tonic was flat and my friends sweet tea was awful. when we asked if she could clear the other peoples stuff from our table she said fine but wanted to let us know that she had nine tables so i am kind a busy so i might not get to it all. when our food arrived it was okay. had the rib eye not worth $26 dollars. we then walked the water front beautiful. at this point having a good time. before leaving we had a couple of corona's and bud lights. asked one of the people working if they recycled when heading out and they "do not". this mad me more mad then the bad service. i was appalled with the amount of glass and aluminum that was being put in the trash. makes me sick. i pay a lot in taxes. nice to see that this money does not go to recycling. will not got to the establishment ever again and will make sure to let my friends and family know as well.

terrible service and over priced food. i have been to captain's quarters a few times and thought the food was ok but the atmosphere is what always brought me back. it is going to be a very long time until i return because my most recent trip to captains quarters is one i will not forget. not only was the service terrible but the food was just as bad. i took friends there who were from out of town and when i left i was embarrassed i had taken them there. iorderedthe scallops which was $18.00 and when my food came out there were 3 scallops on my plate, which comes out to be $6.00 per scallop. one of my friends who was with me put her hand under the chair and there was a glob of sticky food under the chair which eventually got on her clothes. our server said to her "it should come out when you wash it". i don't ever write bad reviews on restaurants but i had only because i hope the owners change their management sooner than later.

service was very slow. sat at table 15 min before anyone waited on us.orderedsalads for all 3 of us. one salad came after meal came. and for a $6.00 salad it was totally not worth it! meal was decent but nothing to brag about. great atmosphere, especially sitting outside on a nice evening. would only go back to drink & hang out not to eat!

make sure you have a reservation. very long wait if you don't. the atmosphere is fantastic the building and adornments are first rate. iorderedthe mahi mahi pacific rim style. it was good nothing special. i didn't care for the spaghetti noodles they used to accompany the dish. the flavors were good but just standard nothing stood out really. we'll be back but outside of the amazing bar nothing was remarkable.

not what it used to be.. used to be the top of the top in louisville, but doesn't quite "rate" these days, at least it doesn't for me any longer.

the location? amazing. lovely. if going for drinks out on the patio overlooking the river, don't read further - perfect place for it!
wait staff - pleasant and relatively quick.
drinks? as i said, go there for them - excellent - their bourbon/amaretto martini was very tasty.

the food? run-of-the-mill, at best. it was "okay."
adding insult to blandness, apparently if one orders a dish that comes with a side (in my case, it was french fries, listed in "side dishes" on the back of the menu for $3), but really prefers some other side dish - say, onion rings (likewise, listed in the menu as being $3), the official reply is, "i'm sorry, we can't do that." i asked about the reason for this (don't decide i'm "that" customer! i have worked in food and retail customer service, and i assure you i was polite! it's a tough job, no matter how you slice it, and people doing it deserve the utmost respect), the server has apparently not been supplied with a reasonable explanation by the powers-that-be - no tactful indication that the kitchen has some kind of silly rule, whatever...not even upselling by mentioning that the alternate side dish can beorderedas an extra item if one really has one's heart set on something different. i was tired, and not up for making decisions, so i let it go at that and thanked the server.

i expected a little...well, actually a lot more from a place of this size, location, reputation, and history (they used to have honest-to-god lobster, once upon a time), especially considering that louisville is now positively teeming with competitors that are very, very good alternatives for dining. if not stellar in quality of the food (it happens - off nights, slow nights with less experienced chefs/cooks, whatever), then i at least expected willingness to accommodate the customer on such a minor request - i can get a substitute side dish at any trashy sit-down chain restaurant in the country, but not captain's quarters.
it's too bad - i was really looking forward to a really good and enjoyable meal, and likely would have resumed going there regularly if it had been better.

the environment in the river was very nice and the serving staff provided good service. the food was not at all a value, sub standard for what i expected. we order the mediterranean trio appetizer which was described in the menu as
"mediterranean trio
tomato feta bruschetta, traditional hummus and cucumber yogurt dip served with pita and grilled crostinis". the hummus and cuc yogurt dip were store bought, there was a small bowl with some pico de gallo. the pita a white pita, in toasted or warmed and the other "bread" was flat bread octangular crackers you can buy from and grocery store. the menu described "grilled crostinis" were non-existent. we also eachorderedthe "grilled rib-eye
choice fire-grilled 12 oz. rib-eye steak with apple bourbon balsamic glaze". well we did get a rib-eye however it was served slathered in a bbq sauce which in no way represented the description.
my recommendation, if you want a good environment for burger and french fries go the this restaurant.

why can't the food equal the local????. we went to "cq" last night - yes it was the super popular sunday night. around 7:30 we attempted to order appetizers..... was amazed as we were told the nachos were sold out, wontons? sold out and queso sold out????? did not even bother to ask about salads or entrees wonder how many of those were gone by 7:30/7:45 at night???? what kind of planning does the kitchen not have???? the entertainment runs until 2am not sure when the kitchen closes but it was not at 8!!!!
ended up with peel and eat shrimp - way over cooked, been sitting around for a while, delivered with melted butter & no cocktail sauce???
mediterranean trio of hummus (very plain) , tomato chutney (good) and cucumber sauce (nice flavor) pita bread slices were out of the bag not warmed or toasted rather unappetizing, there was also french bread slices that were an awkward width too thick - again not warmed or toasted. later weorderedcrab cakes, they were very large, rather bland so they supply a large amount of spicy dressing.
what i do not understand is why captains quarters does not have better food? is the thought that they are pretty busy most of the time so why bother? do your customers not deserve the very best you can offer???? i know i personally would love to go there more often. the local is fabulous, entertainment good/great. but i refuse to eat bad food - so i won't go there but once every year or two.
captains quarters do us all a favor and improve the kitchen!!!!!!

enjoyable. my wife wanted to have dinner by the river, i said lets try captain's quatters, we haven't been there in a while. we drove out there, arriving about 5:30 pm,, requested a table outside. we were taken to a table just outside the main dining room with a good view of the river and the boat dock. the server showed up about the time we sat down and handed out menus and took drink orders. she was back in two or three minutes and asked if we wanted to order at this time, which we did. my wifeorderedthe greek salad and iorderedthe chopped chicken salad. the outside area was about 3/4 of the way full and the outside bar area was doing a brisk business. before our order arrived, two good size cruisers pull up to the dock area. there were several pleasure boats on the water at this time of the evening. both our salads arrived in short order from another server, i guess when an order comes up, whoever is in the kitchen brings them out. the salads were just as order. the grilled chicken on my salad was plenty and hot and tender. my wife;s salad had plenty of items to fill you up. the server came by and asked if everything was ok, we said yes, and could use more of our drinks. she returned with full glasses of our drinks. later she asked if we would like anything else, i said no, just the check, which she pulled out of her apron and left it on the table. we talked for a few minutes and then paid and went to the parkiing lot whcih by this time was just about full. we had a nice evening by the river, good food, and with tip spent about $40 but i did have a beer. all in all, i would return to cqs, but you should get there early because it looks like they get busy and after 6 pm you may have to wait for a table.

nice fish sandwich. hi us folks,

myself and the folks went to cq's the other day for lunch. we sat outside on the nice deck area with great weather. each of usorderedthe fish sandwich which came with chips, pickle and cole slaw. our server was prompt, got the order right and delivered the food without a long wait. the fish sandwich was two pieces of generous size, well breaded, moist and nice cod texture. the only aspect was the cole slaw had too much onion which over powered the dish. overall, a nice lunch and certainly would go back.

bad experience!. i ate at captain's quarters for the first time. i opened my napkin and the knife was filthy! it had not been washed at all. i had to ask the waiter 3 times to bring me more siiverware. we asked 3 times for some water. my hamburger was so charred i could not eat it. by the time i got another hamburger my friends were all finished with their food. weorderedbeer and bloody marys , the beer was warm and the bloody marys were bad too. my husband went and talked to the manager and he seemed very uncomfortable with the any kind of confrontation. (my husband was very polite.) the manager said he would come by our table. i don't know if he was going to apologize or what but he never came. it is a pretty setting but that is about all there is going for this place. horrible service!!!
