captains quarters riverside grille

we sat down immediately in the bar section and the ac was blowing directly at us so we were freezing after asking the server to change the ac it went off for about 5 minutes then came right back on. my boyfriend and i ordered bourbon barrel ales (one of 3 draft selections) which came out a little colder than room temperature. we ordered appetizers and they took so long that our 2 hour wait table was ready and the server even said "stupid kitchen". we got seated outside which was a beautiful view we told our waitress our order immediately so that it wouldn't take forever again. the food took forever and it all came out cold. i ordered the lobster and shrimp mac and cheese took two bites of it and had the server box it up because i was just going to take it home to heat it up because it was so cold. the manager came by our table we told him the problems and he neglected to fix anything and get it back out. needless to say we spent about $200.00 and left still hungry. won't be going back.

great view. we got to sit outside along the ohio river on a nice day. saved some money with a groupon i purchased a few months earlier. started out with the captain's banana peppers. the were served whole instead of sliced. nice taste with the bistro or marinera sauce. had their fish sandwich, served on a thick slice of rye bread. they're just a little smaller than the ones served at mike linnigs, which are huge. the cold slaw wasn't the best but i liked the derby pie for dessert. they could use a more expanded seafood menu since it is a waterfront restaurant. they did a great job remodeling the place after the 2011 flood.

atmosphere and service good. food is fair.

love this place, wonderful service, great view, louisville tradition, decent prices, delicious food, great drinks, multiple seating options for every time of year. treat yourself to lunch, at minimum, at least annually at captain's quarters!

wow! what a gem!. so my family just moved here from the east coast and some locals recommended that we try captains quarters. we tried to get in last weekend, but the place was packed and on a 2 hour wait! so we decided to come on an "off" night, and simply put, we were very impressed. the food was good, the service was great and the ambiance was spectacular. (keeping in mind that the place had just experienced a significant flood just 1 month ago, amazing!) it's not a chain, not too flashy, just down right good!

awful experience!!. yes it was memorial day weekend and busy and we sat in the bar. our waitress came to the table did not clear it off. left the other peoples drinks, dirty napkins, and silver ware on the table. we ordered drinks. tonic was flat and my friends sweet tea was awful. when we asked if she could clear the other peoples stuff from our table she said fine but wanted to let us know that she had nine tables so i am kind a busy so i might not get to it all. when our food arrived it was okay. had the rib eye not worth $26 dollars. we then walked the water front beautiful. at this point having a good time. before leaving we had a couple of corona's and bud lights. asked one of the people working if they recycled when heading out and they "do not". this mad me more mad then the bad service. i was appalled with the amount of glass and aluminum that was being put in the trash. makes me sick. i pay a lot in taxes. nice to see that this money does not go to recycling. will not got to the establishment ever again and will make sure to let my friends and family know as well.

terrible service and over priced food. i have been to captain's quarters a few times and thought the food was ok but the atmosphere is what always brought me back. it is going to be a very long time until i return because my most recent trip to captains quarters is one i will not forget. not only was the service terrible but the food was just as bad. i took friends there who were from out of town and when i left i was embarrassed i had taken them there. i ordered the scallops which was $18.00 and when my food came out there were 3 scallops on my plate, which comes out to be $6.00 per scallop. one of my friends who was with me put her hand under the chair and there was a glob of sticky food under the chair which eventually got on her clothes. our server said to her "it should come out when you wash it". i don't ever write bad reviews on restaurants but i had only because i hope the owners change their management sooner than later.

i love coming here to dine or just have drinks and watch the boats pulling in and out of the marina!

it’s a beautiful fun place to go on the river. don’t go for the food unless it’s the indoor fine dining room. the casual areas food is not the attraction.

service was very slow. sat at table 15 min before anyone waited on us. ordered salads for all 3 of us. one salad came after meal came. and for a $6.00 salad it was totally not worth it! meal was decent but nothing to brag about. great atmosphere, especially sitting outside on a nice evening. would only go back to drink & hang out not to eat!

make sure you have a reservation. very long wait if you don't. the atmosphere is fantastic the building and adornments are first rate. i ordered the mahi mahi pacific rim style. it was good nothing special. i didn't care for the spaghetti noodles they used to accompany the dish. the flavors were good but just standard nothing stood out really. we'll be back but outside of the amazing bar nothing was remarkable.

i think this place is one of the best in town. the service that they offer to the boats is awsome. the mahi mahi taco is really good. every time i order the same because it's a really good size, taste and presentation fish taco.

been to captains many times and have to say they gave us a reason to be disappointed every time.used to love this place before the menu changed.clearly no vegetarian options on the menu now as i went with a veg friend.
anyway i go there for the ambience,riverside view,calm environment and not to leave their cheap lit regular shelf lol.
can't complain.

i have been to captains quarter’s a few times in the past to visit its bar area and thought it was a nice place as far as that. my family decided to go there to eat as a treat on my birthday so i wanting to see the food options, price etc… before going and in doing so read a few of the negative reviews.

my brother and i decided to go ahead early to check it out, my birthday my choice.

as we were getting out of the car three gigantic tour buses arrived, and it was a friday, hmm.

as it was pretty warm out i wanted to eat in the dining area but we were told it was reservations only, so i questioned them as to why i wasn’t able to make a reservation on the internet sight and was a bit put off until the young lady explained the actual dining room has been completely booked for a few months, which i am glad she did that makes sense, i hadn’t called.

as i was lagging behind my brother was able to land a booth in the bar area with a nice view as two ladies were leaving and it would fit our party, i was pleased.

the young server who came to us did so promptly, was pleasant to the eyes and had a very congenial attitude as she quickly brought us the drinks, and menus we asked for assuring us it would be no problem to wait about a half an hour for the rest.

when they arrived she returned promptly taking our orders; i had a hot brown, the rest had various fish entries. all of our food arrived timely, my hot brown was very good and hot as were the others fish, the server made sure we had plenty of drinks, and this was in a very busy but pleasant bar food area. i was very pleased with the time we spent eating as well as checking out the boats in the river area, and the shapely well dressed women my age in the band area.

so… i would never order a $30.00 sea bass diner in a bar food area to start with even on my birthday when someone else was paying, and if you do…find another shoulder to cry on.

 my only regret is that two months of other fine dinners had the sixth sense to make a reservation two months ahead of me… as i was ready for some pan-seared jumbo scallops, sautéed spinach with bacon over smoked gouda grits, with bell pepper and broccoli all accompanied by a few bottles of santa margherita pinot grigio (my brother was paying).

oh how life can be so hard, on the river, with beautiful women, good food, and boats, did i mention boats……………..
