cap's on the water

i suggested ann try the vanilla grouper ($22.99). it’s one of my favorite entrees at cap’s & she echoed its praises! flash fried & served over mashed potatoes and fried spinach {sounds weird, but this spinach is crisp & delish!} each part of this entree is thoughtfully prepared but it’s the sweet vanilla rum sauce that makes this dish sing!

they hire anyone. bad

the last notable meal was our dinner at cap’s, a big restaurant on the inter coastal with a large bar and outdoor dining space. typically in vacation towns i feel like these types of places are tourist traps with sub-par food, but we had another great meal there.

one of our favorite restaurants! the view and outdoor seating is lovely. food is very good. only complaint: we love this place and wanted to have wedding there but they weren't very helpful from that aspect and some friends of ours had the same problem.

wonderful view. great great atmosphere! the service is excellent. food can be hit or miss but fish always fresh and tasty.

beautiful view, delicious food. it was a beautiful, crisp afternoon and we were seated by the water and under a gas heater -- very pleasant. the food was outstanding! the fried shrimp entree was very, very ample: probably one dozen succulent, fresh (tasted like they had been caught just hours before) delicately fried shrimp. the florida gumbo was chock-full of shrimp and other seafood in a hearty gumbo. it could have been just a little hotter but it was very chilly outside. the accompanying cornbread had a cake-like consistency and just a hint of sweetness. the hushpuppies were sweet and delicate -- none of that heavy doughy texture.
the view is stunning and we'll be back to enjoy a sunset.

i liked the ambience and would go back for that. a friend and i went there for dinner on a girls night out. we were there around 7 pm saturday and were seated immediately. the service was good but they didn't seem to want us to linger at the table. we ordered different appetizers and they were in a hurry to take the plates away. my friend and i were in splits when the server took away her plate before she put down her fork!! overall...it's a great place to relax and have a conversation. i'd go back and this time....i'll hold on tight to my plate. food is pricey and not amazing.

great atmosphere, good food. went there for lunch on the weekend. it was great to sit out by the water. food was good but had a hard time finding something i wanted to eat.
will go back again and give it another try.

nice view...disappointing meal. overpriced...not the greatest menu selection....however, atmosphere is pleasant...great social hub.... probably worth another try....

very accomodating to special duet. great food & service

absolute favorite. this restaurant has a great atmosphere, wonderful food, awesome service, and a very impressive bottled wine list. the first couple of times i ate here, i was hooked on the crispy flounder (a whole flounder fried and topped with a sweet shallot glaze). the last time i visited this gem, i dined on the panko triggerfish: amazing. my friend ordered the crab cakes, and they were also delicious: so much crab and so little dressing. you cannot go wrong here.

great for lunch. caps in walking distance from my house and we have been a few times for dinner. its great for atmosphere but a little high on price. the only indoor dining is kid free which i love, although i do have 2 kids but when i have paid a babysitter, there is nothing worse than having to listen to other kids scream or fight so kudos to the owner for making this decision!

after a few years, i have come to the conclusion that caps for lunch is the way to go. very reasonable, same view, same quality food without the long wait (usually) and without the high entree prices. fish tacos are a favorite but the fried plantains are the best! such a great place for a relaxing early afternoon lunch with friends and even kids as they can play by the water on the awesome trees. highly recommend for lunch.

great place. i have come to realize that there is a price for atmosphere and a view and at caps, you get your moneys worth. other post have said it overpriced but if you would pay $50 at a chain on a major road, pay $80 and get an experience not just a meal. we live a block from caps and love to go there with our house guests and not once has anyone left disappointed. i love the vanilla grouper, the oysters are great also!
