cap's on the water

waste of money. after our family had re-located to this area over 2 years ago, i am convinced that northern floridians will pay anything for mediocre food. my family eating atcaps(recommended) yesterday evening, after a 45 minute wait, is the $100 meal i have had here in florida. three adults and 1 nine yr old started with calimari that so over cooked that the server took it away without charging us. some of my wife's seafood platter and my mother's whole grouper were cooked the same way; way over-cooked. my daughters fish and chips were okay, and my crabcakes were mushy and a bit oily,and not having much of the crab taste most of us crave. the view of the inter coastal was just beautiful, but hardly justified the pricey selections, extensive wait, and dusty over-crowded parking lot. be prepared to wash your car after your meal. just save your time and money.

my hubby and i were here last year for our honeymoon.. due to the hurricane the atmosphere inside changed. it's really very nicely done and the food is as excellent as we had the year before. a+ restaurant and the staff is great!!! prices good too don't miss this place.capson the water😊

this place was amazing!! the atmosphere is very nice, looking over the water and having your favorite drink is the best! me and the wife came hungry andcapsdid not disappoint, for appetizers my wife had the parm crab cake and i had the gator tails, whoever makes the sauce in that kitchen deserves a raise!! the citrus sauce that came with my gator tails was so good...i asked for more with my entree! my wife loved her crab cake, said its one of the best she's ever had (and she's had a plenty of different crab cakes!). for entrees, i ordered the vanilla grouper, and the wife opted for the key lime shrimp, once again the sauce on my grouper was amazing! the mixture of savory and sweet was very well played! my wife had the coconut cake for dessert...looked more like a bowl of shave toasted coconut, but she said it was very moist and the sauce at the bottom of the bowl was very good! overall this place was great and worth the money...for 2 : 2 alcoholic beverages, 2 appetizers 2 entrees, 1 dessert + tip = $124

wonderful place.capsis a must try if you are in the area. great food and beautiful sunset. we have been on several occasions and the experience is always outstanding.

very disappointed in the manager. for years i have been enjoying the food and service of caps. i refer all of my hospital’s visiting physicians and all out of town guest to caps.

on valentine’s day this year, i decided to take 6 people tocapsfor dinner. three of us met atcapsat 5pm and the other three would be joining us; coming in from orlando and st. augustine. the three of us who arrived first knew we would have to wait and said it would be worth every minute! we sat at the bar ordered two drinks a piece, enjoyed conversations with others sitting at the bar.

we were sat in the covered patio overlooking the water. we order a 60.00 bottle of wine and 4 apps while waiting on our friends to arrive.

i got up to use the ladies room and upon arrival back to the table, the manger was there asking when our party would arrive and when we were leaving. we informed him we just finished a 60.00 bottle of wine and many apps and were about to order more wine and dinner (just as we said that the rest of our party walked through the door) we were so upset that the manager came to our table questioning us and prompting us to leave. we asked the waitress to bring our check which was about 130.00 up to that point not to mention the bar drinks. we took care of her and her good service - and if we had stayed our bill would have been close to 300-400.00.

i confronted the manager twice upon us departing the restaurant – i was so angry that he had the nerve to come to our table and basically asking when we were leaving.

i will never return tocapsand now will make sure social media knows the story. i am very disappointed in the professionalism of this manager.

great for lunch.capsin walking distance from my house and we have been a few times for dinner. its great for atmosphere but a little high on price. the only indoor dining is kid free which i love, although i do have 2 kids but when i have paid a babysitter, there is nothing worse than having to listen to other kids scream or fight so kudos to the owner for making this decision!

after a few years, i have come to the conclusion thatcapsfor lunch is the way to go. very reasonable, same view, same quality food without the long wait (usually) and without the high entree prices. fish tacos are a favorite but the fried plantains are the best! such a great place for a relaxing early afternoon lunch with friends and even kids as they can play by the water on the awesome trees. highly recommend for lunch.

great place. i have come to realize that there is a price for atmosphere and a view and at caps, you get your moneys worth. other post have said it overpriced but if you would pay $50 at a chain on a major road, pay $80 and get an experience not just a meal. we live a block fromcapsand love to go there with our house guests and not once has anyone left disappointed. i love the vanilla grouper, the oysters are great also!

thoroughly disappointing!. i can't stand a place that tries to be upscale, charges big prices and delivers such a poor product when it comes to the food. this was our first (and last) time tocaps... had wanted to go here for a while due to its location. they obviously know they have a great location and a nice looking atmosphere on their deck, because they have let everything else ... all the important stuff, suffer. to me, the kitchen manager at this place should be ashamed.

we had an ahi tuna appetizer which was ok. but, we were constantly being bitten by something outside. all while we waited for 45 minutes for a table because when we called when we were headed there (about a 30 minute drive) and asked about the menu, hours of operation and said we were on our way ... the hostess didn't mention it might be a good idea to put in a reservation. so, 45 minutes after we got there, finally got a seat.

a dozen oysters raw please. premium price, tiny tiny oysters and stale saltine crackers. other places in jax have 1/2 price oyster specials during the week for $4 a dozen and the oysters are twice the size. so, we ordered our food. my girlfriend's ahi tuna salad was okay, but kind of bland. but, compared to the ribeye that i got ... it was a score. $24 for a ribeye that's obviously cooked on a flat-top and no seasoning whatsoever. it came with instant mash potatoes and asparagus. the asparagus was cooked well, but i haven't had such bland food in my steak and potatoes since i was in high school and eating in the cafeteria. more cafeteria ambiance with the cups our drinks were in.

this place has no business charging the prices they do for the food product they are offering up to their clientele. yes, i know those touristy st. augustine types will just keep coming in there because of it being on the water, but to me - you guys should be ashamed. the kitchen manager should be fired. there's no excuse for stale crackers and food that tastes like that ... at those prices. with that kind of money you should be paying a kitchen manager well enough they should be on top of all this stuff ... it shouldn't suffer. it might be time some of you ordered some of your own food and tasted it and see if you think you're giving your customers what they're paying for.

$10.00 for 6 mini sized oysters? $12.99 for maybe 2oz of nori tuna. i was shocked.
i has been said you do not eat the view. i would have rather. $60.00 lunch?
wake upcapsand treat the locals like you want our business. i will not be back nor will i tell anyone to visit becuase of the view. i will say, eat somewhere else and maybe stop for a beer. not, they probably want $5.00 for a beer.
this was our favorite place, but not anymore. i was very dissapointed.
total rip off!!!!! yes i will tell 20 people and they will tell 20 people and so on, and so on, and so on.

change of ownership?. i have been tocapsnumerous times and had enjoyed it a lot. something seemed to be different this time. ordered the special calamari that i loved there and this time i was disappointed. i t came on a small plate as a very small portion and was not as crisp as it used to be. there was maybe 12 pcs in total on the plate with a few fried pcs of spinach. i ordered the horseradish encrusted grouper and was again disappointed. it was not what i remembered it to be. this seemed to have been deep fried and was very dry even with the little bit of vanilla sauce. it usually was pan seared and then finished off in the oven and came out moist and delectable. yes the view and location are tops but unless they get back to their original great food this will just become a memory.

best mashed potatoes ever!!. while our overall experience left a little to be desired, i have to comment that the mashed potatoes atcapson the water are the best i have ever had.

we had a fairly large party (7) and got seated in the oyster bar with no one really to wait on us. sadly that made our experience lack in the typical excellent service and atmosphere of cap's.

but this isn't my first time to be here and i definitely recommend it - maybe just not for groups - someplace with a reservation might be better in that case.

que romantico.capsis a great place to take a date. they have a nice spit of sand to take a quick pre dinner jaunt, and an outside bar kind of "tiki" area to sit and enjoy a drink before eating. if you can catch it around sunset with a bottle of wine while neslted under the majestic oaks on the deck there will be some guaranteed swoonage.

you do not eat the view. i visitedcapsduring the july 4 week i grew up in the area and i had been before but, it had been i guess 10 years maybe less . they have a great location and the view is great more so in the evening .so we decided to go for lunch .
it was after a summer rain so it was very humid we walked to the hostess stand and several ladies where standing around talking and stood there for maybe i guess 5 minutes so that one of them could finish their conversation first then seat us( i noticed the same thing when we left i asked for a to go menu and was handed one that was dripping wet from the rain i asked is this all they had and her answer was " ya" and turned to finish her conversation). we walked by the bar there must have been i am guessing 30 people about 3/4 on their way to being toilet hugging drunk and the heat was terrible and the doors where open.
we where seated in a nice dining room still blasting heat still had the doors open yes it was about 5 degrees cooler ok so it was 110 degrees in the dining room instead of 115 still had the doors open the air was on i figured their electric bill was free or something.
i ordered the calamari and the server told me that " it was her favorite and that it was spicy" look i eat hot food i make my own hot sauce and eat jalapenos in my omelets for breakfast so i believe it would be safe to say that my palate is one that can take a lot of heat. i tasted the calamari it was on a bed of thia chillis it blew my head off !! i had to drown it with ranch to be able to even eat it.
i ordered the fish and chips batter so sweet that it must have been pancake mix ( greasy as the last review said) and the chips where shoe string from the freezer section of the grocery yum..? the wife had a cordon bleu sandwich not sure if that came out of the freezer case or they made it . she also had tea and i had 2 drafts . my bill for lunch around $50.00 i do not mind paying the price but, the service and food? when i mentioned that the calamari was very very hot i was told " ya" it is spicy the same thing the girls chatting at the front said when they gave me that to go menu that was dripping wet and attitude !

lovecapsand make a point of going whenever in town, amazing location and atmosphere. i do feel it's a great resaraunt for kids, small oral kids menu and it's outside so it's not quiet and stuffy, more casual and fun. food and service are great!!!!
