wow! my wife and i had lunch and were very impressed. we started out with humus along with fresh vegitables. the chips were fresh and crisp. she had the chicken kabob and a side salad. she commented on how the dressing was a wonderful mix of tangy and sweet. along with a unique dressing, she said the almonds were carmelized to perfection. the chicken kabob was tender and juicy. i had the beef kabob. i had no idea a beef kabob could be this good. the meat was grilled medium rare and tender as the day is long. lastly, we both had dessert. suffice it to say i could write another review on the dessert alone. obviously they have a classically trained pastry chef. aside from the food, the owner has to be the most friendly person i've met in a long time. i could tell she takes pride in making sure each patron is fully satisfied. we will be back.

visited on saturday afternoon as a couple for late lunch (2ish). service was mediocre from the outset but food was worth it. scared to imagine service during busy periods though.

for a starter we had the hummus which was great, a large portion with plenty of chips and pita (good for 4 i'd say). we both had the chicken kebab wrap which was good, though i had mine with the excellent lentil soup. we finished with the delicious surprise complimentary tiramisu which though small was worth the visit alone.

would visit again for sure, but would still avoid busy periods

first of all i walked in and asked for a menu because i wanted to sit outside and she rudely gave me one and didn't say anything. she was rude when asking for our drinks like she didn't want to help us. the owner and his family came outside to eat and moved our umbrella shading us to shade her, his wife was acting like she owned the place. the plants were really nice outside and the food was good but what's good food and plants with crappy service???

in my opinion: my favorite wichita restaurant is now cafe maurcie.
i've lived here 35 yrs.. i've tried almost every cuisine and restaurant in wichita,
downtown, west and east... i've eaten in d.c., europe, seattle, etc.. cafe maurice is primo!
cafe maurice is by far tops! excquisite cuisine, warm, classy atmosphere, very hospitable.
i've eaten there twice ..it is truly a "gem" in wichita.

visited the cafe today with my sister. we walked in to get menus because we wanted to sit outside. a waitress finally came up and said, "have you been helped?" i said we would just like a couple menus so we can sit outside. she literally threw one menu at us then turned around and walked away. when we were approached by a waitress i asked what wines they had and she replied, "let me see your id." no please and was very rude about it.(i am 24) even if the food is good it's not worth it to be treated like an inconvenience

my wife and i ate a mid afternoon meal on a friday, with only 3 tables filled and at the end of their meals, at that time of day, so there were none of the challenges that occur when a kitchen gets slammed in an evening meal rush (i was a former high volume restaurant owner for 8 years).

our waitress was extremely attentive and delightful. no complaints there. she was top notch.

the prices are generally fair, but the first thing that i noticed was the extremely small portions, as they delivered our plates. mainly the meat portions which are really lacking in size and substance.

this was our first time visit, since we are weekly diners at the mediterranean grill across from towne east (we are in no way associated with them...just happen to think they are incomparably exceptional on their kabobs). after comments from friends that we should try cafe maurice, we gave it a go.

i ordered the mixed grill, which was one skewer each of chicken kabob, beef kabob, and kafta. besides being really small skewers with each having four 1/2" to 3/4" cubes of chicken and steak, and a kafta patty about 2" to 2 1/2" in diameter, all three meat items were extremely overcooked and dry. in addition, neither one had any detectable seasoning to them or on them (except for the kafta which did have, with the onion and parsley mixed into the patty). the kabobs were very plain and blah, in flavor, on top of being cooked far too long on the grill (grill marks approaching black on both as well as the kafta). my first bite of each prompted me to ask our waitress if we could have some sauce to put on the meat, explaining that they were really dry. she eagerly and graciously brought us some tzatziki cucumber sauce, as well as tahini sauce. although they were not memorable, they were at least passable in adding some flavor to the meat.

my wife ordered the large fattoush salad with 2 skewers of chicken on it. the salad was a very generous portion (being the large), and it had what one would expect for a fattoush salad, flavorwise. but her chicken cubes were also overcooked and dry.

the mixed grill comes with your choice of two sides. for one, i chose the steamed broccoli and carrots, which were cooked properly, but totally unseasoned. however my second choice of sides, was the best thing on my plate....the sauteed vegetables. they were absolutely outstanding with zucchini slices, mushroom slices, cherry tomatoes cut in half, grilled onion and red peppers. they were sauteed perfectly and had wonderful flavor. that is the only thing that cafe maurice bothered to season properly. i will never go back, but if i did, i would instantly choose the sauteed vegetables (2x) for my two choices of sides.

we also got an appetizer....4 cabbage rolls for 5.95. they were flavorful, but very small.

one other thing that surprised me was their tap water. we order water with no ice and both of us noticed on the first mouthful that their water tasted really musty, as if it came out of 100 year old pipes. considering that cafe maurice is in a relatively new strip center, we are baffled at this. we asked for more lemon slices to try to mask the musty flavor, to no avail.

bottom line is that although their prices are acceptable, the portions are very small (look at their menu online pictures as proof), flavorless and overcooked. there are dozens of restaurants in wichita in this price range and lower which are far better choices, in quality of taste bud experience.

forever everyone kept telling me to try cafe maurice. i went and dined a week ago. the facilities were clean, the service was great, our meal came out pretty quickly. the food was great, don't get me wrong, but i don't think the price was worth all the hype.

perfect lunch. lunched today at cafe maurice and couldn't have asked for a better experience. attentive, efficient, and pleasant waitress. if there have been issues in the past with service, we certainly didn't see any regarding the waitstaff or food coming out in a timely manner. food was great; our party of four enjoyed curry, chicken kabob sandwiches, kafta pizza, and hummus...everything delicious ... and a lovely little piece of complementary dessert. we've been to the restaurant on several occasions (not "regulars" as we live out of town) and would not hesitate to recommend this cafe to others.

outstanding 5 star dinner. my wife and i dined at café maurice last night and had an outstanding 5 star experience! the food was amazing and the service was absolutely perfect! everything is made fresh daily and the presentation is unbelievable. each of the owners greeted us before the meal and followed up with us during the meal. café maurice should be your must visit place at least two times a week. (it's thursday and we have been there twice already this week!)

bad service. this used to be our "go to" lunch spot but the service is so bad! it takes a long time to get your food..and most of the time we order a salad. it shouldn't be a half hour wait for a salad. the waitresses have such bad attitudes and don't even try to act like they could be enjoying what they do. they seem very angry about their jobs. the owner usually makes an appearance when someone she is friendly with is in the dining room which is fine, but the staff needs management!
good food..poor service which ruins the experience.
