a visit into mediocrity. ug, another night at cafe intermezzo? really? with their huge selection of mediocre desserts and cheesecake factoryesque drink menu i have never found this place impressive. not that i haven't tried. the firsttimei walked into this place i saw beautiful decor, lovely desserts and a very extensive drink menu. what more could a girl want? well, that question was quickly answered by the poor service, average but high priced drinks and the mediocre food. the firsttimei came here, i thumbed through the drink menu and decided to ask the waiter about some of the more popular drinks. he told me he didn't drink and didn't know. i asked what he frequently sells and he said to me again, "i don't drink, i don't know. i mostly smoke pot." what?!?!?! that pot obviously made you retarded.
i have tried this place multiple times, i love the ambiance- i keep thinking i will find something i like. i have tried the cake, it is never worth the calories, and every drink i have had has been a disappointment. what a waste! this place could be awesome, too bad it blows.
i had a friend coming in on a late flight, and with this location being very close to my house and open, we decided to hit the place for a few cocktails. well, they were actually alright this time. we probably should have just paid the bill and left it at that. but no, we decided to order the $16 artisan cheese plate. what came out? well, a cheese plate, with pepper jack, derby cheese and smoked gouda (the publix special). this is described on the menu as 3 artisanal cheeses served chilled with an assortment of breads. for definition of artisan see below.
"an artisan (from italian: artigiano) is a skilled manual worker who makes items that may be functional or strictly decorative, including furniture, clothing, jewelry, household items, and tools. the term can also be used as an adjective to refer to the craft of hand making food products, such as bread, beverages and cheese."
this cheese was not hand made or high quality, and wasn't made anywhere special. it was most likely picked up from the publix deli. its fine if you want to sell smoked gouda and pepperjack, but don't sell it for $16 and make me think i am going to get some high quality local cheese!
anyway, the service wasn't stellar either, we had to flag the waitress down for any drink refills and for our check. i guess since we were catching up we didn't notice the service too much, but the food was, as always, a total dissapointment.
probably won't be back soon!
