when you first here theplace“malate”, the common conception nowadays is that there is a nightlife in the area with a lot of expats, and a sort of red light district vibe. unbeknownst, to most, it’s also a great culinary hub with a variety of authentic japanese, filipino, chinese, and even middle eastern restaurants. let’s revisit one of the iconic areas in malate, a small rotunda called remedios circle.

i've eaten here since i was in high school. that's like more than 30 decades now. the tsokolate eh' is still as good as i remember it to be. the recipes that hasn't changed aside from the tsokolate was the beef salpicao, baked mac, and the gambas. their breakfast menu is perfect and generous. i love theplaceand the ambiance.

what we had:
chicken a ala kieve + pork adobo

what i liked / didn’t like:
the meat was tender but i was expecting more flavor out of the filling of the chicken especially when eaten with the mashed potato and vegetables on the side. it just didn’t stand out.

the deconstructed pork adobo (sauce on the side) was good though. the serving was big— three large chunks and fried to a crisp. the pork is also very tasty.

i have mixed feelings about the very dim lighting inside. on one hand it gave the resto a rustic old world ambience that really goes with the look of theplace, but it’s just a bit dark for me.

cafe adriatico is known as one of the favorite meet up places in manila. they serve filipino, spanish and continental food. the ambience in all of their branches is traditional, warm and cozy. when we arrived for the food crawl, we were asked if we would like some tea or coffee. i chose jasmine tea and they gave me a teapot with a tea bag in it. so generous! for the food, i'll just mention those that are exceptional for me. first is the ensalada esmeralda, which i liked because of the unique dressing: raspberry yogurt dressing. it also has almond flakes and chia seeds on it, making it more healthy! next is the super creamy prawns thermidor which i really really loved. it is composed of stuffed prawns with cream and mushrooms. last but not the least is the canonigo with mango balls which looks so heavenly! it is caramel meringue with custard sauce and mango balls. since i am a fan of sweets, i loved this one the most. it slowly melts in your mouth while your tastebuds enjoy the sweetness! just make sure that you will share this with someone or that you will drink lots of water since it is super sweet once you've had a lot.

to sum it up, this is aplacethat is worth going back to. the food, ambience and service are all great! really a goodplaceto relax and unwind.

cafe adriatico has become an institution. from early 1980’s, it has been known to be the most popular dateplacein manila. my parents had their dates there before they even got married. years later it’s still a popularplacefor diners. cafe adriatico pulls into its embrace lagacies and generations of people who have always been coming. it usually starts when the parents had dated there, got married, brought their family there. those kids would bring their date there, get married, then bring their own families in turn.

good food for reasonable prices. definitely a goodplaceto either just chill and talk, or have a nice date. theplacefeels a bit reminiscent of old spanish-filipino houses. the staff is friendly, too. it's just the getting there that's a bit of a hassle.

the perfect idyllic spot to get a quick meal post midnight. we used to go here to get a quick bit before going home during my night shift days. whether its just for dessert and coffee (i adore their mango cakes), to having a savory meals (lamb adobo, stir fried crickets etc) cafe adriatico is theplaceto go. top it off with their turn of the century theme (19th century that is), it spells the perfect evening/morning.

i love how theplaceitself is very homey despite being in the middle of the busy streets of manila. they have amazing service, but on top of it all is their very comforting food. my friend and i ordered their baby squid pasta (i'm not sure if it's still on their menu) and their empanada with hot choco. we'd definitely recommend both!!

cafe adriatico has a good reputation for all, may it be for locals and foreigners, when you ask for a goodplaceto eat in manila, this is one of your top choices.

steaks - this is one of the mouth watering steaks i have tried. the doneness is perfect as i requested for a medium. price is very reasonable. it goes with perfect mashed potatoes and veggies.

sandwich - excellent! the cheese says it all. plus points for the chips on the side.

burgers - meaty and juicy! this is good for sharing.

taco salad - i can eat this all day!

carbonara pasta - perfect for all ages.

caesar salad - just what i expected. perfect dressing for their fresh greens.

ambience is very cool and homey. but, service is just okay. sometimes staff pretends they don't see you. but anyways, food is what i'm here for.

after having dinner near the area, we decided to look for aplaceto hang and ease our tummy from the heavy meal we just had. so we ended up chilling at café adriatico. it was already 10:00pm at that time on a thursday night. unfortunately, they do not offer free parking even though the parking space is right in front of them. so we ended up paying php30.00 for the parking from a stranger who does not even guard our vehicle. theplacehas a nice cozy interior. unfortunately the ground floor, which is for non-smokers are quite small. and upstairs is more spacious but the problem is that it is intended for smokers, so you can smell the smokes inside the café since it is not open air and the whole second floor is running air conditioned. the coffee / beverages menu is not given out until you asked for them, which is kind a weird. beverages are very affordable and tasty, but the problem is that the service is quite slow, it took them almost half an hour just to serve our drinks one by one.
