during my childhood days, i can't count how many times we dine at this place, especially the cafe adriatico 1900 (closed). feeling nostalgic about the place, ordered the famous adobo. and the taste, texture is still the same. i miss the
menu at 1900 specially the cuscus, but still satisfied with the experience here again.

i love the unassuming feel of the resto. my friend ordered embutido while i had the chicken ala pobre. i preferred the former though. i was looking for a sauce to compensate for the dryness of the chicken. that being said, the service was great, very attentive waiters. and the crowd was decent, too.

and i believe that this is an institution at this area. not sure if your folks had their dates here but mine did. haha. i remember chatting with my fellow foodie, and her folks used to date here as well. i guess back in the day, it was one of those go-to date places. and i think that it still is. it has this cozy feel to it that becomes more romantic at night.

when you first here the place “malate”, the common conception nowadays is that there is a nightlife in the area with a lot of expats, and a sort of red light district vibe. unbeknownst, to most, it’s also a great culinary hub with a variety of authentic japanese, filipino, chinese, and even middle eastern restaurants. let’s revisit one of the iconic areas in malate, a small rotunda called remedios circle.

travelled to manila just to have breakfast here. ground floor was too crowded so we stayed in the second floor overlooking remedios circle. very cozy interior but a little bit dark due to the choice of wooden furniture. ordered vigan longganisa and tocino. both were excellent. side salad was fresh. if you are not a fan of salted egg on your salad, you may request for a regular egg instead.

great food! and the service is always on point. we arrived late in the evening and the quality of the food and service were great. ordered the beed tenderloins, gamba (favorite), and french onion soup. all great tasting and flavorful. price is decent, and worth every penny, especially when you have the late night cravings.

malate is known for its bustling night life. and with the craziness ending till wee hours in the morning, i'd imagine its breakfast scene to be close to a ghost town. but i was wrong when i dropped by the iconic café adriatico. . hello, café adriatico. . café adriatico is undoubtedly one of the gems of manila. established in 1979, this small cafe was the start of the successful ljc group of restaurants.

it was an invite by food panda for their eat & greet event featuring their top restaurants in manila.

built on the success of its previous food crawl events, the e & g aims to give its participants a fun time discovering the best restaurants in manila.

scrumptious food choices following a specific theme is one of the highlights, along with interacting with the chefs and owners of the restaurants.

i've eaten here since i was in high school. that's like more than 30 decades now. the tsokolate eh' is still as good as i remember it to be. the recipes that hasn't changed aside from the tsokolate was the beef salpicao, baked mac, and the gambas. their breakfast menu is perfect and generous. i love the place and the ambiance.

a local friend and i were catching up and he suggested this venue. he wasn't hungry so he had an entree size prawn dish whilst i had croquettes and pepper steak. croquettes were nice and steak surprisingly tender

what we had:
chicken a ala kieve + pork adobo

what i liked / didn’t like:
the meat was tender but i was expecting more flavor out of the filling of the chicken especially when eaten with the mashed potato and vegetables on the side. it just didn’t stand out.

the deconstructed pork adobo (sauce on the side) was good though. the serving was big— three large chunks and fried to a crisp. the pork is also very tasty.

i have mixed feelings about the very dim lighting inside. on one hand it gave the resto a rustic old world ambience that really goes with the look of the place , but it’s just a bit dark for me.

order the lola ising's adobo, it's so soft and savory. can be shared by 2 people. but not sure with the other food options, we try one more dish every visit but not at par with the adobo. for seasonal desserts, the avocado shake is a must try.

service has changed quite a bit. i remembered having our first date here about 3 to 4 years ago and there was this attentive and kind older man, one of the employees, who patiently explained us the bestsellers. his level of service made me feel that this was the famous cafe adriatico. he was not anymore there when we returned this year. so the staff now can be too distracted, during downtimes they may not be so attentive so you have to call them out. nothing major unless you are an introvert who does not like the sound of her voice haha.

*tried cubao branch too but too commercialised already*
