overall pleasant experience
brix and mortar underwent a reno which combined george lounge with brix restaurant.
we were seated in the old george section which had a chic heritage decor, exposed bricks, chandeliers and wood panelling.
service was excellent, our server was very attentive with a smile on her face, she checked on us every 15min or so to ensure we enjoyed our meal.
food was a bit hit and miss.
let's start with the good stuff. my duck confit was superbly done, rich in flavorful in every bite, skin was crispy without the grease, even the white bean condiments were good. portion was just right.
the appy mussels was a steal! $13 gets you an entree sized mussels with fried potato thins at the top, it's simply the best value.
appy squid wasnicetoo.
now moving on to the misses, the beef carpacio was lacking in flavor and it wasn't raw enough. fortunately the kale salad on the side was delicious. by the way the salad was big enough to be a standalone appy...so the value is there.
entree pork chop wasn't very tasty...maybe the korean marinade wasn't to our liking...
dessert panna cotta was average, sort of lacking in both flavor and presentation.
given the misses, i would still want to go back coz the duck confit was to die for and even the misses weren't too bad.
price wise it's actually reasonable...most entrees were under 30 bucks
