i'm back feeling way much better about this entire dineout vancouver event. made me think that some dinner sets are actually worth the price stated. i wanted to give up on dineout altogether due to my bad experience on monday @ mistral french bistro. but

location, food and service -- all stellar. with three hours notice we had a reservation for two on friday night. we hoped for seats in the courtyard but our table in the dining room was charming and cozy. the staff were cheerful and attentive. our server knew the menu thoroughly and answered our many questions with ease, including suggestions for wine pairings with each dish. for starters we had the artisanal pate and beef carpaccio with chopped kale salad. mains were vietnamese lamb chops, lingcod and kennebec fries to share. every bite was fresh and flavorful. in all, a thoroughly delightful dining experience. my only criticism -- and this is really searching for something to complain about -- was that the music selection of early '90s reggae-pop seemed mismatched to the surroundings.

beautiful restaurant with a glass roof court yard lit by a chandelier.amazing servers with expert knowledge of all items and wine. remember though, it's not cheap. make it special!

duck breast was phenomenal - flavour, cook, composition. service was very attentive, friendly, and knowledgeable. decor is modern and beautiful.

if you want to be talked down to and given attitude by the manager, this is the place to go!. booked my birthday here last saturday.

on my booking (open table) i advised that i would like 2 more seats added, from 8 - 10 and to contact me. well i get there and politely ask if they could add two more seats. the manager sighs "ughhh, i wish someone would have told me", i said i put it on my booking, her response was "we do things verbally around here, stand at the bar".

then, our server says to us, "i hope you aren't in a rush because you won't be eating any time soon". wtf.

two of my friends bailed, meaning in fact i didn't need the extra seats, the waiter asks, i advise him and he rolls his eyes and says great.

then my friend asks if they had a different section for appetizers, the waiter replies, "you're staring right at them" small plates they're called, not appies and walks away.

we've been there about 20 minutes now, three tables who came in after us we're given bread to tie them over... we weren't even offered.

he comes back, we all had drinks already, i told him the service was horrible and that we we're going to go somewhere else. sure, he apologized and said "oh your food won't actually be that long, you should just stay". i told him no and asked for the bills. the manager then comes over to another girl at my table and asks what the problem is, she didn't even address me, the same lady that sighed! pretty sure she was completely out of it because then she went into the kitchen rubbing her face and that was the end of it.

so if you're looking for the hoity toity, stuck up staff and manager, this is the place to be! would never recommend this restaurant to anyone!

brix is a cute little place in yaletown. as we came upon the restaurant, we saw a sign that read, “enter through the curtains.” i kind of felt like i was in wonderland.

there were a few visitors to the office from out of town this week, and to celebrate our successes this year, the company organized an awards dinner at brix & mortar, on tuesday. it was beautifully organized with plenty of wine, a fun ice breaker at the beginning, and lots of mingling before and after the delicious 3 course meal.

hello friends! it’s summer and that means patios and happy hour. least that’s what it feels like with some of my friends. vancouver’s been having heat wave after heave wave this summer so on one of the sunniest days of the year we decided to head into brix and mortar for some bites and bubbles. brix used to be it’s own separate restaurant but when they decided to combine two restaurants together, it became brix and mortar.

i had just flown in from the east coast, so i was three hours ahead. my host was kind enough to eat early; 5:30pm. unbeknownst to us, that's happy hour. the various starters were all wonderful. a great little salad. an artisanal-cheese plate. 30% off on wine. wait! what? yup, 30% off, and what wines! given the 30% discount, and given the u.s.-dollar to canadian-dollar conversion, an absolutely fabulous bottle was had for less than $120. expensive? you bet, but not as costly as the $350 such a bottle usually commands south of the canadian border. we both had the halibut as a main, and it was -- predictably -- delicious. a totally excellent, happy early evening.

located in the trendy yaletown district of vancouver, brix and mortar is a restaurant serving modern canadian fare along with creative cocktails and an impressive fine wine list.  the restaurant is inside a 1912 heritage brick building and is known for its charming atmosphere.  joyce (vanfoodies.com), david (vancouvergourmetclub.com) and i decided to grab some dinner at brix and mortar recently.

nice ambience, it is aesthetically beautiful but the food was extremely average. my duck was not cooked well, the cod was so dry it was disappointing but the seasoning were good. maybe k caught the chef on his/her bad day. but the atmosphere is nice but probably wouldn’t comeback.

we decided to try brix & mortar on a whim. we cannot stress enough - from the very moment we walked in to the time we had to leave, the staff was great and offered the incredible service.

the restaurant feels very comfortable with a nice mixture of modern and classic design elements - descent use of wood, exposed brick with strategic lighting.

the food was fantastic. everything was cooked to perfection.

their menu has a strong emphasis on locally sourced and organic ingredients.

overall, we recommend brix & mortar for yor special night out.

taste of yaletown is a dining event that is similar to dine out vancouver except it’s just in yaletown. various restaurants participate and offer set menus for $25/35/45. can you believe this is actually my first time participating? after perusing all the menus online, i came to the conclusion that brix & mortar would be a good choice and it seemed like i would get my bang for my buck.

brix and mortar has been on my wish list for the longest time. i’ve only heard good things about their menu so i was so glad i finally got to check this off my list!. unfortunately the courtyard space was closed that evening, but their interior dining space was just as beautiful. what we ate: bread with hummus

we were lucky to get a table in the courtyard, it was very romantic. the food was good. the duck was great but the fish was a bit dry. great for the atmosphere.
