brick alley pub & restaurant

this is one of the places which are typically referred to as “institution” - it’s been around for a while. great “pub” feel - lots of traditional decor in terms of wall plaques, old ad posters and so on - i’m sure you know what i’m talking about.
i had shrimp jambalaya as my main dish, and it was very nicely spicy (black pepper spicy), very good flavor combination. and it was also large - keep it in mind, all the dishes are really on the larger size. the dish i had could’ve been easily shared by two people.
arugulasaladpizza was nicely done (i would personally call it a flatbread, but it doesn’t change the taste :) ). fried shrimp with fries were also very good.
service was rather indifferent - an extra smile and a bit of attention would go a long way.
recommended for the experience - you might fare better with the service.

after a 1 hour wait at 2:30 on a tuesday in december, we were seated! thankfully our meal was worth the wait. the plumby's chicken sandwich was a homemade breaded chicken breast over flowing the bun and cooked just right with jack cheese and a spicy mayo. the coleslaw was good, but ha a detectable "flavor" that we couldn't put our finger on? root beer? as i said: good, but enough to raise an eyebrow in mystery. i had the mike pasta withsaladbar. thesaladbar was basic with decent fresh ingredients and spicy albondigas soup that seemed devoid of the requisite meatballs, though the flavor was still great. the mike's pasta was filled with clams and linguisa and the sauce/broth was perfectly accompanied by 4 garlic toasts for dipping. this was a perfect dish for a chilly day. service was good, the decor will keep you busy looking about. easily recommended.

diner from pa. we got the baked stuffed jumbo shrimp and lobster mac&cheese. the food was delicious! thesaladbar and soup were a nice touch but i would have rather skipped it to save the money. it was expensive for what you got. the staff were all nice and friendly.

for dinner that night we went to the brick alley pub & restaurant. good food, mediocre service. the waitress was very meh. the servers knocked multiple drinks over. thesaladbar was mediocre (but it was free...). but the food was good. especially the lobster mac & cheese that i ordered. this was a huge portion of rich, creamy, decadent macaroni & cheese. i was only able to eat about half of this.

...we shared the chicken tenders with bbq sauce. the portion was small but they were oh so flavorful. our entrees even came with thesaladbar so i had a gardensaladwith cucumbers, celery, kidney beans and 1000 island dressing. for an entree i had the fresh tomato penne with chicken.

old stand by......changing. i have dined here about 12 times and have usually enjoyed it. for some reason i am beginning to feel like this place is turning into a tourist trap. i remember enjoying my meals more, years ago, i believe the prices have a gone up and maybe the quality gone down. don't get me wrong this is still a restaurant worth going to, thesaladbar is fresh the menu offers a nice variety from seafood to beef to italian favorites like bruschetta. that being said, i am left feeling like the scene is changing partly due to the local tourism.

sunday brunch a must!. we had brunch here our last day in newport and it was very good. plenty of great breakfast fare, different types of eggs benedict to fit any taste. my fiance ordered the crab cake eggs benedict and i ordered the steak and eggs. both came with fruit and mini potato pancakes. plus we ordered the salad/soup/bread bar, one of the highlights of the meal. the soup and bread we amazing and thesaladbar was fresh and delicious. our brunch was equally amazing. my steak was cooked to perfection and her benedict had perfectly cooked eggs . the mini potato pancakes were a great take on the traditional hash browns. we have to come back for lunch and dinner now!

i eat here often. the food is great and thesaladbar is always fresh and well stocked. they know how cook a good steak!

stopped in late one night, over the holiday season for some tasty food. with each entre we got the soup of the day, a side, and access to thesaladbar; which certainly makes the entree worth the price on the menu. the potato soup was out of this world and thesaladbar was sufficient enough. service was good, nothing to note from one extreme to the other.
the atmosphere was alright but a little loud and cramped at times. walking through the bar to get to thesaladbar was a bit awkward come to think of it but it seemed like a friendly enough place.


on recommendation from the server i ordered a pasta with lobster and scallops which was pretty good as well, but the red pepper rigatoni wasn't very spicy at all.

the spinach fettuccini alfredo was delicious and both dishes were nice large portions we could not finish.

nothing was out of this world but i was pleased with our choice to dine at the brick alley before heading back on our journey.

may seem a little pricey but its well worth it. right when you walk in there friendly and pleasant. plus the food was so good best stuffed shrimp i had plus hadsaladand soup bar included. a must to visit when in newport...

great food in a fun pub setting. stopped in newport ok the way from mass. to pa and wanted to eat somewhere with a warm atmosphere. fantasic service, great decor, traditional pub menu with better dinners and a nicesaladbar. wine list is supurb and many, many beers ontap. great place to meet friends, but at lunchtime the staff is also very hospitable to serving children.
