save your money. go to denny's. this was my first time there. thefoodwas so-so but very overpriced and then they added a service charge on top of it. we were going to go out and celebrate a special occasion afterwards but they killed it for me. there were only 4 or 5 other people there and it took nearly half an hour to get our food. horrible in my opinion. my girlfriend wrote to the owner.
this comment is for the owner of the brian's 24. tonight was the first night for me to dine at your restaurant. i wanted to add a suggestion for you to include on your menu. i recommend that you write somewhere on a wall or note on the menu that "a gratuity charge will be automatically added for orders that cost over $90." my party and i (4 people total) were shocked that a gratuity charge was placed on our bill. i did see on the menu that gratuity is added to parties of 6 or more but no where did we see that it would be added to bills greater than $90. i've never encountered this before at other restaurants and it seemed unbelievable but your server, vanesa, reassured us that this is your company's business practice. i suggested for her to tell the owner that this should be listed somewhere. after we told her this didn't sound right, she offered to take the gratuity off for us, which made the automatic gratuity charge sound even more phony. we were at your restaurant on 4/6/2010 between 8:45pm to 10:05 pm. we sat at a table in the front of the restaurant and did not go to the bar except once to obtain a chilled glass which our server failed to give us after our request for one. as mentioned earlier, our hostess/bartender/server was vanesa. we ordered a cranberry vodka, a long island ice tea, a white zinfandel, and a corona for drinks. our meals were a jambalaya linguine, philly cheese steak, rib-eye with egg burrito, and a sampler. our gratuity was approximately $17. and our bill was a total of $111.31. i am writing this to you to let you know that the automatic gratuity charge for bills greater than $90 is an unusual practice for many restaurants. i write this in hopes that you will better communicate to your customers who would unwittingly fall victim to this strange automatic charge. thefoodand service tonight was mediocre but we almost always tip 20% (we tip more when service is great). i am still shocked that a gratuity is charged for bills over $90. and i feel confident that customers who were in my same position left brian's 24 with the same sense of shock and disbelief that a business does this.
the owner replied back and said it was up to the sever to add this charge. did i mention our server was the hostest, bartender, and our waitress. save your money and go to denny's, same food, better service much cheaper.
